Tanabata Festival in summer, Japan – It is the beginning of new semester for Mae Suegara and her fellow classmates. Mae is always looking forward for the new semester of her high school years after the Tanabata Festival at her village has ended. Unknown much to Mae, she has been dreaming about a certain dream, lately. A dream which revolves around her daily lives, a dream that wasn’t being able to be reached by her at its approximate level. Even so, Mae never thought about it that seriously. She just went with the flow of her usual, fine everyday lives. Upon returning from her school back to her home, Mae found herself being assorted in a certain situation which seems to be like a “big family gathering”. Mae was totally clueless about it and began questioning herself what was going on in the house? “Ah, so it was that ‘dream’, huh?” whispered Mae quietly. Later on, Mae is being called by her grandfather, in order for him to explain about the situation to her, who was completely clueless while having no idea about it at all, in the first place.
Mae will actually be going to become the next descendant or successor for her grandfather’s willpower and ability in defeating evil, ill-spirited youkai and ayakashi that will about to appear in their hometown, place and other surroundings, as well. Much to Mae’s surprise, she was shocked about the explanation from her grandfather, later pledged herself to her own disapproval about it. Although Mae has disapproved in becoming the next successor of her new ability that will be granted solely for her by her grandfather, she has no other options than to accept the overbearing task, since her grandfather and her parents still valued her as being the most treasured member in the family and also, someone who will surely be able to defeat those evil-spirited youkai and ayakashi and bring back an honor to their family for the sake of the whole town.
Another surprise is that, Mae will be paired or teamed up with her partner, Ikuya Senyuu who is also her male classmate and he is the only one who knows about the scheme of Mae’s grandfather about the upcoming appearance of the evil or ill-spirited youkai and ayakashi, since his family is also in the part of Mae’s “big family gathering”, aside from just belonging in the background of exorcists family.
What will be going to happen to Mae for her whole life, after she has come to an agreement in deciding to help her grandfather in vanishing all of the evil, ill-spirited youkai and ayakashi? Will she be able to endure all of the things that will be appearing in front of her, without her noticing them very well? Or, will she be able to succeed in this task, while trying to manage both of her time during at the school and on the times where she will be fighting against those evil, ill-spirited youkai and ayakashi alongside with her new, only male partner, Ikuya Senyuu? The story of her bizarre yet reminiscing daily lives begins now!

Mae Suegara / 末柄 まえ (CV: Airi Narukawa)
The main protagonist and heroine of both the anime and manga series, Bōkyaku no Riron. A cheerful and energetic girl who is always looking forward for the summer festival in the holidays and her new semester year at high school after summer festival and holidays have ended. She is later appointed as being the true ancestor and successor of the Suegara household. After hearing about the explanation from her grandfather about the upcoming attacks of the ill-spirited youkai and ayakashi in their hometown and other nearby places, she became worried about her own decision in trying to accept the task given by her grandfather. After Mae agreed to take on the task, she is later being paired up with Ikuya Senyuu, the one from the Senyuu Clan. At first, Mae seems to be thinking that Ikuya has somewhat a mysterious yet suspicious aura but later on, she realizes that Ikuya is the only one who understands her the most and is also able to take care of her well beings. During the later episodes, she began developing her feelings of genuine love to Ikuya, since she believed that he will always be by her side, demolishing the evil youkai and ayakashi which will be roaming in their hometown.
Ikuya Senyuu / 戦勇 いくや (CV: Shunya Hiruma)
The deuteragonist and hero of both the anime and manga series, Bōkyaku no Riron. A calm and easygoing male teenager who comes from the family of exorcists, Senyuu-ke. Ikuya is someone who is very strategic and systematic when it comes to plotting up strategies in battles with the evil, ill-spirites youkai and ayakashi. In the later episodes, he realizes that he has feelings for Mae and decided to genuinely open up his feelings to her. In the continuation of the manga series, Ikuya and Mae are seen together at their own house, happily taking care of their first born child or daughter, Hako, implying that they were already engaged and married to each other.
Kira Akano / 赤野 きら (CV: Souma Saitou)
The tritagonist and the second hero of both the anime and manga series, Bōkyaku no Riron. Kira is the childhood friend of Mae before he left to Tokyo, in order to follow his parent's decision in pursuing their career, as well as to further his studies in the city. Kira appears to be quite bratty and cold due to the change of the trend in his lifestyle, since he believed that if he would met Mae again someday, she will just endlessly be teasing him, especially for no particular reason. In the later episodes, he later redeemed himself upon knowing about the truth regarding Mae from Ikuya, after their sudden encounter in the forest while fighting over the evil youkai and ayakashi.

Henry “Enri” Mitou / 美人 “えんり” ヘンリー (CV: Yoshiki Nakajima)
One of the main characters of both the anime and manga series, Bōkyaku no Riron. He is a young-adult who is also believed to be able to come in-contact with youkai and ayakashi. Henry comes from the originality of a Japanese father and a European mother, which makes him become half of a foreigner. He is currently working as an office worker at the city and decided to visit the village for a holiday trip. Henry is very fond and loving of his Japanese grandmother, since she is the only one who shows the most genuine affection towards him when he was still a little kid. The only reason on why Henry decided to visit the village once again is because he wanted to taste the traditional Japanese sweets and biscuits which were all done hand-made by his grandmother. Upon Henry's first meeting with Mae, he is the only person whom Mae acknowledges as someone who is very handsome and diligent in the area of the village which has also led to Mae's zealousness towards Henry's appearance. Although appearing as someone who looks like a foreigner but in fact, is a half-foreigner, Henry is quite of a comical and humorous person during most of the episodes in the anime series.
