This was alright. Cool art style, some great animation, and some nice story ideas. Even one or two good emotional moments. But I wish more of the animation was as dynamic and fun as the Mr. Halloween climax from ep 3, and a lot of the themes and ideas were not explored nearly as well as they could have been. The whole "slaughtering bad guys vs. being a true hero" thing could've been fantastic but was pretty mishandled and in the end there was no real conclusion to the whole thing. The best character was the black cyborg dude since he did have a successful character arc and was easily relatable.

Overall I liked the 60s show more, and I never even heard of it as a kid; I only finished it this month, so there's no nostalgia. I don't regret watching After, but 60s 8 Man was better at being a wacky, creative episodic super hero show covering everything from crime drama to kaiju battles than After was at being a more down-to-earth and focused crime drama.

Still worth a watch, but it could've easily been a classic with some fine tuning.

Thinking about it, the use of those canisters to alleviate the strain from having cybernetic parts could also be a literal metaphor for addiction. Well, in terms of an addiction to technology.
