| Several odd and surprisingly depressing stories from this volume. 6/10. The Bully was bizarre in how it lacked hindsight to the boy who was bullied by the girl and later left her after they had a child. Worse is when she reignites her joy of bullying by doing the same to her son who looks exactly like her husband as a young boy which I felt was uncharacteristic of her. Kinda funny that she dumped her boyfriend who she had a crush on for the boy who kept her from dating him as a child. An accidental death of a sister causing the deserter to commit suicide two days later but remain as a ghost for 8 years being manipulated by the family that the war was ongoing as he stays in hiding in their home was interesting. Father's Heart is the one that stands out the most as a Father who has the ability to possess his children and see what they see which he did to experience the joy of youth that he didn't as the youngest who only worked to build his riches. Unfortunately it caused his sons to die from the sense of restriction from him as having no freedom. His actions are a little odd though with how he possessed his children to keep them away from people he didn't approve of or for whatever other reason. After realizing how he's tortured his children... he oddly and surprisingly commits suicide by falling off a ferris wheel. ... Which is disappointing for how tragic it is for that father to leave his family (wife and daughter) like that, even if they didn't want him near them again. I wish they reconciled. Memory was an intriguing experience of mystery to then learn that the beautiful girl had a younger sister who she killed at 14 years old for fear of one day resembling her hideous sister. Her trauma creating amnesia and inducing the image of her sister's face in a mirror as she attempts to kill her parents out of spite was entertaining. In the end, now remembering her murder, she's joyful of knowing she'll stay beautiful as she is. The Back Alley could have been better if we saw what blood stains of the dead on the wall spirits would have done to the girl who murdered them. I wish we saw that, but the thought alone of that horror is still cool. Love By the Book is a fun Two-Timer Gone Wrong from an actor who dumps girls, leaving them a tape of six hours of himself to remember by, except in this case, as he's still alive after getting stabbed by his now ex, she doesn't care to get him back with his promise now that she has his video that won't betray her like he could. Awesome scenario. In the Soil has a scary twist of a corpse somehow having lived 20 years in the reunion of a time capsule who had left several calls for years to the main character. I wish there was more to that corpse's character of why she hates so much like the main character wondered, but it's a creepy interesting ending. Overall decent even though there are fascinating things about it like most of Junji Itou's work. This volume is one of many in its stories that I wish had more to them for how invested I become in the story after reading from their unique mysterious horror. |
