Typically, shows get a demographic based on whatever magazine the manga happens to be published in and it is not always indicative of the true demographic feel.

Acca 13 yet another case of this. Though it is not unappealling as a seinen, it is definitely mpre of a josei. Foodporn and homo erotic tension abound (the mangaka typically does yaoi so no shocker there) and the art style is just very feminine as well.

Josei also tends to focus more on characters and interpersonal relationships whereas seinen prioritizes politics and big picture kind of stuff. Acca does some of the latter but certainly has more interest in the former.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the true seinen stuff. Not because its bad, but because I tend to prefer interpersonal stuff. I find too much political and explanitory stuff to be boring. A lot of this probably has to do with the fact that I am not the target audience. Female and male bbrains are wired differently in most cases and I am no exception.

The reason I'm making this post is more to let people who might be like me know NOT to skip this one just because it says seinen, as I almost did. Also to just kinda let people have a little something extra to consider about the show.

next you will stand ranting on how muh HUNT X HUNT is
super deep and seinen or CAHINSAW CHAINSAWW is now a seinen cuz it "deep" according to you. oh and best yet now MUH TITAN is now super seinen cuz it talks a tiny bit of politics and also muh genocide.

as if the entirety of the demographic assignment was based on feel per series instead of the market target.

now as some one whos pretty much finished it at this point now,

i can tell you that acca is literally the perfect definition of what a seinen is on average,

-dilogue heavy
-hard to get into, and hard to understand
-little action to catch viewers attention, uses mystery and intreague instead.
-complex subject matter, delves in politics etc.

seinen is NOT
-purely ultra violence or gore
-sex does not make a series seinen
-edgy stuff does not make a series seinen

berserk really fucking destroyed the modern consesus on what a fucking seinen is, this seriously pisses me off,

BERSERK IS THE EXCEPTION NOT THE NORM
BERSERK IS THE EXCEPTION NOT THE NORM
BERSERK IS THE EXCEPTION NOT THE NORM

for every vinland saga, or gantz type seinen
there are 100 slice of life comedy or soft hearted coming of age series, or romantic drama they make up the majority of seinen

what if I told you...

that K -on is a seinen

YES fucking K -on is a seinen (its literally targeted towards adults, in an seinen magazine)

in fact 99% of seinen consists of stuff like hinamatsuri, Mushishi, Himouto! Umaru-chan, 3-gatsu no Lion, Grand Blue, Working!!! etc just to name a few

notice how most seinen are actually light hearted slice of life stuff with jokes that involve coming of age???

seinen has nothing to fucking do with gore and edgy stuff.
