Some question before reading the LN

I finished watching both season, i mostly got disappointed by the anime. But i'm a masochist so i keep watching until the end. But then the last arc piqued my interest. I may continue to read the series, but i have some question about things in LN/manga:

1. Is Index still annoying?

2. Is Touma still babbling nonsense morality?(im okay with Touma as selfless martyr. But the morality babbling mostly make no sense, especially in Daihasesai arc and i hate it)

3. What side is more exposed? In anime, I like the science side better with their skillout, darkness and such while the magic side just beating the obviously bad guys, is it still same?

4. Which better, LN or manga?

1. Well not as much annoying as the anime portrays her to be.

2. No he doesn't

3.Both magic and science side. Volume 15 and volume 19 you get pure science side action with accelerator as the lead. The magic side take a complete different approach in volume 17 and volume 18.

4.unfortunately you have to read the Light novel since the manga translation are still in the italy arc. and personally the novels are better since the manga skipped so many arcs. After finishing the second season start from volume 14.

I'm currently watching the first season (at episode 10).
I made a mistake and watched the railgun season 1 first.

I really liked this and I will probably buy the novels (but they cost a lot since I'm not from USA) so I would also like to ask a few questions.

-Does the anime entirely cover the first 13 volumes? And how bad would it be to start reading from vol 14?
-Is the railgun anime a part of those 24 volumes, if so is it among the first 13 or is it after that?
- I see a second series of LNs on-going. Is that one a continuation of this one, or does it focus on new characters after a timeskip or something like that?

Edit: I just realized amazon only has up to 14 volumes. There goes my plan...
I would still like to hear the answers though, out of curiosity.
