THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
For starters this picks up where episode 1 left off. We see that Katsumi is dragged into this police agency. Katsumi is reluctant to join much like most ppl who is forced into an unknown situation. It seems that these Lucifer Hawks know something that Katsumi wants to know. They seem smart for the most part. Something about her father connects the Hawks from coming here and her powers. We also get subtle hints about her mother but its too early to make theories.

Kiddy seems like an irritating one hopefully she doesnt become annoying throughout the series considering that she isnt even stronger than the MC.

Overall a fine episode that tells more about the plot and makes episode 1 more coherent.

Something I've always liked about Silent Mobius is the cast of adults, still a rarity in anime. Katsumi undergoes the usual anime protagonist's strange transformation from nonentity to "chosen one"- though now that I'm older I find it more enjoyable to see an adult woman in this role than a teenager. Katsumi's lines about her life at "the company" feeling unreal and slipping away have a weight to me, in the same way teenagers stressing over exams carries no weight to me.

The character that comes to mind for me when watching Silent Mobius is Shinji Ikari- of course, the most famous of reluctant heroes. Like Shinji, Katsumi's parents have been absent most of her life, and their non-presence has created a fixation on them despite her subtle resentment at her mother for being missing. In the same way that Shinji tries to please Gendo in order to hopefully be compensated for post-due parental praise and love, Katsumi comes to Tokyo out of interest in her mother and father, and fights because it is what her absent mother and father would have wanted. It is implied that Katsumi is used to being alone and has weak relationships with others (her lack of desire to return to her old life and coworkers in Hawaii).

On a technical note, the animation is disappointing when it needs to depict something visceral.
