Bless Polygon Pictures!

Wonder how the plot/story of the film will work, since the manga, besides having a linear story, although not being that clear sometimes and presented in a weird way (as far as I recall), has a kind of pace, or maybe sequence of events, that would be really awkward in a animation (like simply showing Killy walking past various landscapes or non-stop action sequences)...

I may be horribly wrong but...

Well, after seeing the characters that are being displayed on the website and what I saw on the trailers, I thought at first that the movie would cover some stuff from the 3rd and 4th Vol. of the manga (the whole Toha Heavy industries arc) based on the characters that are being shown on the official site (but I wasn't sure since they don't resemble that much the ones on the manga), but then I went to read the synopsis on the website, and it resembles a lot the Netsphere Engineer short story. Cibo is being shown on the website too (or at least a character that looks like her), so maybe they will cover some stuff from the 2nd Vol. too?

Maybe it will be a mix of some stories from the manga, or it could be a original story for the film... anyway, Nihei is the Creative Consultant for the production so it can't go wrong.

I don't have Netflix, but does anyone know if there's a list somewhere out there that has all the titles they show, or at least the exclusives? Thank you.

Yeah, the girl's Zuru, although the description doesn't seem to fully match up the toha heavy industries arc...

I'm really wondering what they'll do, but I'm sure it won't be a disappointment.

This looks fucking great, pretty hyped for this since the source is my fav manga. Killy's VA is perfect and the background art looks nice just like it should with a Blame anime

Looks like the moe converter thing was more canon than we thought...

... Also the alternative titles for the movie that are listed on MAL give the impression that will really have something to do with the Heavy Toha Industries arc, but it's nothing to be that sure...

The site also mentions that Nihei is behind the script too (he also provided original character designs), so maybe he wrote a original story for the movie, using some stuff from the manga and some short stories...

well, who knows, can't be really sure yet...

Yeah, I know Nihei is directly involved. I don't know if he wrote the script, he's there as creative advisor, though.

And yeah, the trailer seems to be kind of telling the premise of the Netsphere Engineer short story. So I think the biggest focus will be the toha heavy industries arc.

I don't mind the new character designs, it's kinda nihei's newer style anyhow and serves the animation better. But I love how authentic they looked in the manga.

"updated 45 minutes ago" Ages? (i'm kidding dw, i also add stuff ages after i've watched it)

The CGI art looks very clean in comparison to 2D animation. The only thing I can agree on is that the framerate looks to be low in the non-action scenes, but that doesn't feel like an issue.

Honestly 2D animation has often such low quality mixed up everywhere, and the reason they can have a high framerate is because of those "bad frames", CG can't do that, so in budget projects, the framerate is bound to be low. Animating is hard my dude.

I find myself really liking this art style as well, though, so this may just be biased.

Why do you think it looks so bad?

Edit: I know some CGI makes the movement look clunky, due to the lack of joints probably, but Sidonia never looked clunky to me, at least not anymore.

I had added it a long time ago. Put it on hold then finished it and forgot to change that I had it on hold. Went to check it after I wrote the comment.

It looks like CGI, that's the issue. If it was so good that I couldn't tell it apart from 2D or it didn't have those clunky movements that almost every Japanese CGI movie has, I wouldn't be complaining. I'm not a fan of the new CGI trend that is rising through Japanese animation studios. It's cheaper to use CG but it always ages like shit and it looks quite bad in my opinion. The CGI on this trailer only looks slightly better than Berserk's CG. It is still bad. I rather take shitty 2D animation over 'good' CG. I'm aware of how expensive 2D animation is and how long it takes but that's why it's quality.

Sorry, but I already saw Disney kill 2D animation for cheaper and quicker CG. I don't want to see the medium killed off in Japan too. My opinion on CG animation is unchanging, I think it works fine when used to support 2D but it should never be used to fully animate a movie/show. I can go back and watch something like Sleeping Beauty remastered and it would still look fantastic. I tried watching Jimmy Neutron again after so long to see how well it aged and it looked awful. Movies that looks good now in CG don't age well later.

I don't like the art styles of any Nick Toons so, i can't deny Jimmy Neutron looks bad. :p The animation is pretty decent though?

But I think it comes down to preference in the end, then. I think each has their charm, but I see your point.

Regarding the changes made to the storyline, this seems to be a case of "This work is too austere and convoluted, let's change it because viewvers are freaking morons".

I sure hope I am wrong.

The overarching story is very spread out and not really conclusive, so focussing on a exhilirating, story-filled arc, rewriting it a little so it translates into a movie well, etc., seems like the most logical thing to do.

It's not a matter of considering the viewers dumb, it's a matter of making a good film. They can't adapt everything since it's a feature-length film, so it seems acceptable to me + nihei is helping them out, so I'm sure it won't be bad.

Just don't go in expecting a full adaptation of the manga or anything lol

Well, it's been quite some time since I read Blame!, but I find the global story to be important, as it is severely imbricated with Killy.

But more importantly, Blame! is a story full of structures, void and nihilism, and devoid of words. What I am fearing is that they break the core identity of the work in order to appeal to a larger public.

I was super hype about this getting animated because I loved the manga so much. But after reading the synopsis I'm somewhat concerned that the story is not going to show off the manga, and warp the characters for the benefit of this movie.

I'll still going to watch it because I've been waiting for years hoping this series would get an animation, and then waiting another 2 years for an actual release date. But I'm going to keep expectations low.
