I don't understand why/how the students in the high school will forget about Arata after his ReLIFE contract is up. What are the exact mechanics of this? Does ReLIFE wipe out memories of people Arata has affected? Or will they simply forget about him because it's the third year and people will move on to college and thus follow different paths after high school? Or maybe they remember him but can't contact him because his records/ registry/ contact information has been removed from existence?

I'm pretty sure the folks at ReLIFE will go out of their way to actively wipe the memories of the students. And I mean, they invented pills that specifically alter a person's apparent age, so I wouldn't be surprised if they also had the ability to selectively erase people's memories ^_^ It would be interesting if this actually became necessary so we could maybe see how they erase the memories, but for now I think the only thing they really said about it is that they would actively erase people's memories when the experiment ended.

I guess that makes sense that they have the technology, but the ethics of permanently removing memories involving Arata seems dubious at best.

While we're at it, I find the science behind taking a pill to "look 17" fucking ridiculous but luckily it doesn't affect my enjoyment of the show.

Yeah from the very beginning I also started to think about the ethics of this "experiment", because making an adult pretend to be an high-schooler would probably cause an uproar among parents and hardly be authorized by law, even more so regarding the wiping of memories (and doing it without their consent or their families' would be, well, illegal).

I tossed that thought away very quickly because, in the end, it's clearly just a plot device and we don't care how it works. What is interesting is the situation it created, and how the events unfold from there on.

But if we really want to talk about realism, this anime is a really optimistic fiction because, with real humans, there would always be a (lot of) d*ckhead(s) who would try to profit from it and ruin everything for all the other peoples involved.

There are a ton of issues if you want to instill logic. From wiping memories will still leave scattered pictures of him to how this company could sell this youth pill to the masses for TRILLIONS of dollars when you think of the money women spend on trying to look younger and all the tens of thousands they spend on surgery could now be solved easily with one pill.

In the webcomic ...a hint of how memories from people will be erased is already given. If you are following the webcomic then you should be aware. Remember when kaizaki asked hishiro of what did she do in the last year school festival? Hishiro had forgotten the whole thing. She also couldn't remember the bullied student face or name for whom she stood for. She can only remember that she transferred out of the school this year.... could the relife people have removed the memories of that student from hishiro when she agreed to take a test for another year?

It is a possibility, but we are still to be told how the ReLIFE company takes care of this issue, or if the entire thing is a bluf. I mean, Hishiro is susceptible to forget things she doesn't care too much about, as she says. So it well may be that she actually forgot about the girl and she transfered to avoid the bullying or

There's still room for speculation as things are not entirely clear just yet.

It might be speculation on my part but Hishiro wouldn't have just forgotten the bullied person's face and name and remember everything else of that incidence. Something feels suspicious here. Though i agree she can't remember people name if they aren't connected/involved with her like initially in case of kaizaki... she remembered him as tobacco person. But if she is involved with person then she will remember them. Besides it has only been 3-4 months...how can somebody forget someone if they had such an influence on you.

I also do not agree with you when you say that bullied person was someone who was arranged by relife. It was mentioned that because of exceptional case this time...there are 2 support division personnel in the school so without any exceptional case, there shouldn't be 2 support division people for single test subject.

In my opinion, either the bullied person herself got transferred out or relife people did it to give a better chance for hishiro second try.
