 [きのこ帝国 is a shoegaze, indie dream pop band, with the vocalist Chiaki Sato, who is also a drama actor] Browsing last.fm after getting the album and came across many comments saying how J-poppy Kinoko's sound became in this new album. Personally I don't really see how dramatically different it became, there's still the general crescendo of guitar throughout most of the songs and you still have the angsty one apparent in the track 「YOUTHFUL ANGER」, without the introduction of strings most of the instrumentation has been similar to what we've seen in the last single 「東京」. I like the direction since its calming but also pretty varied, some balladesque songs and also one definite dreampop one and some more aggressive shoegaze around the end, the semiballads really complementing Chiaki vocal quality imo. I guess people are a bit sad that their "Mass of the Fermenting Dregs ver2" band is changing but I see it as a good thing since its a bit boring to have just a redux. By changing their style a bit they could develop a mix of something new. TL;DR The new album is different but nice and relaxing imo. Its fun with cats on it. |
