...but damn, it's a little depressing that this is the first Phantasy Star anime to be produced.
I really wish they would have made a Phantasy Star anime back in the 90's... based on the characters of Phantasy Star II or something.
I mean, cmon' just look at them:

Seeing an OVA or TV series for this in the 90's would have been awesome.
I think it's kind of too late, though. If they made this nowadays, they'd probably just change all of the character designs and screw it up...
I mean, just look what they did with Phantasy Star Generation 2, they ruined the whole style of the original game.

I honestly have no hope for this adpation, but I'm still going to watch it just because I loved PSO I. I played PSO I Ep 1-4, not PSO II. PSO I is a classic online game. I wish instead of this school-life bullcrap that takes place in the real world like SAO, we got a edgy anime OVA movie about Red Ring Rico's path of destruction, and the characters would be REAL not virtual. If this got the proper treatment, it would be very similar to the God Eater anime or Dead Space as far as the tone and vibe. I'd go as far as saying there would be a Dead Space vibe with the whole Dark Falz monolith possession thing, dark beings, mutated wildlife, etc. Premise: A human base on a space ship sends hunters down to find the missing hunter, Rico, on the dangerous planet Ragol... Too bad we got THIS crap purely made to cash out on the current game's likeness from the looks of it.

Just played PS2 a few days ago and I was wondering the same thing about why there wasnt a Phantasy Star adaptation from one of the games in the 90s since there is a positive reception with the games (not sure about 3 though because its sooo mixed lol).
It would be definitely way better than that PSO2 anime, which looks kinda weird...

I hate Phantasy Star II, but that's entirely because the gameplay sucks. I think all 4 classic games have the potential for a great anime.
