| It's not like any episodes of this series are very complex but this one felt oddly slapdash and shallow even by its own standards. |
| The way Kouji took down Count Brocken was quite funny. Didn't think we would get another episode that ended on a happy note with all of them laughing (except for the villains that is). |

| This show really can't manage tone well - I thought Dr Hell was all serious business now that Ashura died and Gorgon was always supposed to be a serious threat but they have such a ridiculous plan this time and Brocken has completely lost any of his cool military factor - he's more of a bumbling idiot than Ashura ever was to the point it 's funny to think he was introduced as the more legitimate threat compared to him. Not that he's ever been as competent as the manga version was - this episode's plot feels like a severely dumbed-down version of his introductory chapter from the manga where he covered his mechanical beast with civilians so Kouji wouldn't be able to hit it. They aren't even using his soldiers who feature in the intro and were introduced as the better version of the Ashura army - instead, it's the Ashura army now working for Gorgon. Without Ashura around to bicker and fight with he's just not as fun any more. They really screwed up this episode with it taking them so long to get Mazinger too - they shouldn't have wasted an episode where Mazinger gets used by the enemy with this stupid bird plot and Brocken being too stupid to use it against them. Maybe I'm judging a kid's show too harshly though. |
