| I was curious about this one so I did a little search. What I found was a review of volume one by Erica Friedman on Okazu. Part of why I was looking is that I was getting some serious yuri vibes off of this first chapter. Sure, I wear my yuri goggles most of the time, but there was just something that screamed "This will be yuri!" at me about this chapter... Well, a review on Okazu is a pretty good indication that it is likely to be yuri... Interestingly enough, it is listed as Josei on Manga Updates, despite being labeled as Shoujo here... neither site have it as yuri. Reading the Erica Friedman review, it isn't JUST Yuri. The first comment she makes is that the mangaka, Otsu Hiyori, had been absent from Comic Yuri Hime for some time, so we have confirmation that it is written by a mangaka who has done plenty of yuri. Then she comments that the book's obi states that the story is: “Girl Meets Girl” + “Boy Meets Boy.” So, it appears that this is both yuri and yaoi... However, I have a hunch that it is probably closer to Shoujo Ai + Shounen Ai. In spoilers (for those who don't want to be...), some details about the main characters... [spoiler]Evidently Haru-chan, who our main character mentions early on, is her brother and he has his own half of the story. The six characters on the cover illustration are: 1 Akira - our main character who is socially awkward and even more selfconscious about it than she is awkward. 2. Chizu - the prickly, outspoken, serious girl who's hair Akira plucked the cherry blossom petal out of. 3. Ami - Chizu's cheerful friend who apparently has enough social graces for all three of the girls, which is good since the first two appear to have none between them. 4. Haru - Akira's former athlete brother whose soccer career was ended by an accident and is now a couple of years behind in school because of the accident and with a bunch of younger boys. 5. Kou - Ami's boyfriend who wants to start a cooking club at their school. 6. Hayato - Haru's broody, nonverbal old friend who looks out for him. So the dynamics appear to be a Girl-Girl couple, a Boy-Boy couple, and a too cute for words hetero couple sandwiched in between them. Before you get too exited, in Erica's ratings she gives it 1 out of 10 for both yuri and bl content. At least in the first volume, it appears to be more about friendship...[/spoiler so far it looks pretty good. I like the art.] |
