Its officially happened. Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei has been licensed by Yen Press. The first volume will be relased in October of this year. I'm very excited and cannot wait to own these books in print.

I don't think Yen Press will drop it. I don't think they've dropped a single LN title they've picked up. Besides, they just keep picking up more and more titles. You are right in saying it might take a while to catch up to where the novels are currently at, it is well worth it in my opinion if you are a fan of the series though since now you can own actual copies. The fastest pace I think they will go is around four novels a year, which is the rate they are releasing A Certain Magcial Index. I expect a lower pace however, maybe three a year like SAO and Accel World. Which is fine with me.

no they dropped it as per their licensing policy. If you go to the site you'll see that its been deleted.... only vol 14 is still active......sucks and is awesome at the same time

They did on there due to the policy but the translators could create another site to continue it, like how it happens with SAO for example.

Well it's sad that we'll have to wait longer but still, seeing the last 2 Minutes from the last episode of the anime I'm pretty sure they'll adapt the rest of it so we'll get to know what happens after V14 anyway.

So how does it work now in terms of Baka-Tsuki's translations? Do they remove the volume when Yen Press releases it? (ie. Volume 1 is slated to be published in October 2015, so will BT remove volume 1 at the same time?) And if so, does this apply for the remaining volumes? Because V14 isn't complete, V15 isn't either, and V16 is called "Yotsuba Succession" and I'd love to read those. I'll probably buy them but I don't wanna be waiting 5 years (or more) for it.

They were all deleted. Vol 14 is pretty much done, just missing the part where the god himself goes and talks to elder kudou.
V15 has to be done 50% in two months or so or else the translators cannot upload the rest to Baka Tsuki. I can only hope someone continues translating it somewhere else since I would love to read V16.

I was happy that we have an OFFICIAL English translation available in hard copy but was disappointed after I heard their work where they don't use honorifics.
If any one wants to know where to download the PDF and epub version of the volumes(vol 1 to 13) which are removed from BT PM me.

Well I heard one Translator might continue translating it up to vol .16 and then we'll have to see what happens after that.

My issue with this is more novel. I have poor eyesight, and reading enlarged text on baka-tsuki was so much easier.

Mostly no. A few of them are on Kindle but its very few.

Is it illegal to fan translate after getting it licensed or it is just Baka tsuki policy??I hope that one day there will be a a fan translate site just for mahouka😭:)Hopefully season 2 comes out before the ln gets translated?

I don't think it is illegal. Its just Baka-Tsuki policy to not host any translations of licensed novels. For example, Sword Art Online is licensed but the newest volumes are still being translated by someone on a separate website. But Baka-Tsuki doesn't host the translation.

wanta say its a yes and no answer. You can translate volumes that not been released by the company and any volume to be released within the next year. So at the very least you cant put up chpt for the first 5 volumes however if you want to translate vol 10 on your pretty much in the clear.

I'm happy yen picked it up, but also sad that as a result, baka-tsuki dropped it. and idk how long we have to wait for yen to reach where baka-tsuki left off. i just hope they won't be releasing like 1 novel a year, the wait would be too excruciating...

I just noticed that you can get volume 1 for $7 on amazon! 50% off :D
It is called The Honor Student at Magic High School. This almost sounds weird to me because it feels like in conveys something much different from the original name The Irregular at Magic High School. It may sound stupid but because of that I am hesitant to purchase the official book, although I want too.

Edit: apparently it is the manga on sale on amazon. The light novel isn't out yet?

Was planning to read, but then got licensed...oh well at least I got the PDF of it so I can read it anytime I want...only up to vol. 16 so I don't know if there is more vol. coming out.

I'm re-reading v1 right now as Yen Press translated it and the wording is simply terrible... I know YP peons don't use honorifics and use western naming order regardless if plot is based in japan, western world or their fictional equivalents but what they did is simply vicious. For example what they chose for "Watanabe-senpai" translation is "Watanabe" which in certain contexts feel simply rude, couldnt they think of something else? A-chan became Ah-chan and while it sounds as it should they in the end used honorific in nickname while removing them from names... inconsistent. The grievous mistake though is Miyuki calling Tatsuya "Tatsuya"... so in a few years when we'll get v16 instead of "“No, that… Onii-sama, can I still call you that? Or should I call you Ta-" We will get “No, that… Tatsuya, can I still call you that? Or should I call you Ta-" >_>.

Tl;dr imo YP butchered this translation even more than they did in case of NGNL :/.
