Chapter 1: Problematic Lily It began in a distant world born from the powers of the God of Creation. The two largest continents in Aestrea; the central continent which is home to an abundant number of races, and the demon continent, also known as the lawless region. Far to the eastern side of the central continent lies the Sea of Trees. Deep inside this forest is the Tree of the Beginning, which has existed ever since the birth of this world. The name Sea of Trees was derived from the countless trees that resemble each other making this forest impossible to navigate. It was describe as a forest labyrinth that has many different kinds of dangers man has yet to discover. One of the most dangerous place in this world, just from the various unknown that inhibits the forest. Akin to fireflies all over this forest are called spirits. Spirits are magical parasites born from the Tree of the Beginning. Various rumors floating around, saying they're souls of the departed, lingering about, waiting for their destined reincarnation. There are those who made use of these spirits by forming a pact, creating a weapon as the spirits acting as the core. These weapons are called Spirit Weapon. Spirit weapons are sought by many, yet the knowledge to forge one had been long lost. Those existing ones that were created beforehand are regarded as artifacts. It is said that a village lies hidden in the thick forest, inhabited by beautiful forest dwellers. Humans regarded them as Elves. Distinguished by their long and pointed ears, they are capable of living for hundreds of years. They are those who traverse the forest just to see a glimpse of these forest dwellers, but their travels only ended up in naught. Their biggest mistake was that the village's location wasn't even inside the forest to begin with. Over the steepest mountain, and the mistiest thicket, passing through the forest towards southeast is paradise. Surrounded by magical barriers to keep intruders at bay, they've completely cut ties with the outside world. Crawling upwards on the steepy cliff is a town, and built at the very end is a mansion, secured by ornamented walls. Flowers in bloom hugged the exterior, and behind the manor led to a garden of Afule and fruit orchards. Scurrying through the luxurious hallways is a girl, with her smooth golden hair hovering in the wind. She wore a white dress, with layers of draped satin and pale blue illusion. " Spare me from the lectures Elena!! Ugh, it's all because of this skirt!! " Erin cursed her heavy skirt, grabbing them in frantic handfuls as she tried to run. Dashing after the tottering girl is a maid, hoofing in anger. The girl caught her breath and backed up against the wall, sneaking glances at her predator. " Did I lose her? " " Lose? " A low, chilling voice came to her ear, followed by a horrifying chill that rake her spine and made her skin crawl. Without her knowing, the maid had already circled around her. " It hurts! " A cry escaped her, as she was caught in a brutal, expert grip. " Let us go. Your father awaits, " the maid insisted gently. Quivering, Erin followed the maid's advice. She kept her gaze at the maid's blonde hair bouncing left and right as they walk. She-- Eririnuesha Lye Sylvant or Erin for short, is part of the small community that resides in Filaena Daryl, also known as the land of the elves. Being an only child of their clan's leader, she suffers from his overprotective treatment. Erin loved her family dearly, but she longed for the kind and quiet life that didn't seem possible with all the maids and guards that watch her all day. She wanted peace. She chose culinary as her main point, where she limped through butchering beast and excelled at baking cakes. She had a somewhat rowdy childhood, filled of natural disasters caused by her own stupidity. Today was supposed to be her coming of age ceremony and a huge party was assembled, but not a cell in her body wanted to attend such a grandiose reception. Leading the way with graceful steps, Elena commented. " If only you'd act more ladylike.. " She was truly dismayed. Guiding Erin for eighteen long years, only for her to turn out to be such a tomboy. She felt like she somehow misplaced her guidance. Maybe I was too leaning, Elena said in her thoughts. " Hmph. I'd rather go fishing than attend such a boorish party, " Erin retorted. When they have made it through the halls, they turned on their right to face a luxurious door. Erin went from being overheated to chilled. She could feel her father's anger all the way through this door. To Erin's horror, her throat clench and her eyes stung. " Ah... " " Come in! " While Erin was hesitating, a commanding voice rang from the other side of the door. Now that her father knew she's here, all of her escape routes had been sealed. She glanced sideways to Elena, asking for help, but she quickly averted her gaze. There really is no way of me getting out of this scolding, huh? Trudging on as she was told, Erin opened the door, slowly stepping across the threshold. " Is something the matter, Father? " Erin said softly, her shoulders narrowing. Leaning on his favorite sofa, the well built man with a striking resemblance urged her to sit beside him. His brows are lowered in a scowl, as he looked up at the frightened lily. Erin exhaled a sigh, and inhaled incredible amounts of air for confidence. Resolved, she sat beside her stern looking father. " You've really grown, " He ruffled her hair. All of a sudden, his eyes are filled with nostalgia. " You're the spitting image of your mother when she was your age. " Because of her mother's weak constitution, she passed away when she was three, leaving most of her childhood with her father. Wise and considerate, her father is admired by all of the members of their small community. Even though he always wear a humorless face, deep inside lies a very loving and caring heart of a parent. It goes without saying, she's a daddy's girl. A fact that Erin doesn't particularly hate, yet inconvenienced about it. " Umm.. Isn't it possible to just have dinner along with everybody else? " " No. " " But... " " No. " Erin's heart sank. She had been hoping that her father would at least think about her words, at least be bothered by her clear conscience. But in just a matter of single word, it was settled. Careful to keep biased emotions from his words, her Father spoke sternly. " Enough. Go back to your room and prepare yourself. " Erin didn't reply, she went blank as depression swept through her. Her heart thudded with dread as she forcefully lift herself out of the room. Stepping outside of the suffocating space, Elena greeted her with a composed smile. " Shall we go? " " Mhm. " It would seem the time to go is now, Erin told herself. The manor was toppled upside-down, and all of the servants was busy with preparations. Preparations for her birthday party. However for Erin, this is the perfect chance for her to find the means to escape. In her loneliness, she gathered a small but faint hope that her Father would at least listen to her speak, but everything else was shattered. I'm not an animal or pet to be caged! * * * Erin moved to her room, and collapse into a chair. The curtained windows limned with the sunlight stole her attention. Cool breeze swept through her face as she opened the white trimmed window. Looking on the budding flowers and the space towards the high stone wall that surrounded the yard, she sighed deeply. She felt caught in between the hammer and the anvil where her sheltered life and freedom are cornered. Her mind was wandering among those fields when she heard a footfall. Elena held her from behind, her arms crossed around her waist. " Elena? " she murmured in confusion. " Thinking of escaping again? " Elena spoke in a genuine warmth. Erin knew that she could be very honest with Elena, but wasn't certain she should be. The thought of Elena betraying her was so painful she couldn't breathe. Ever since her mother's passing, Elena was the only one who was able to keep her patience with her. More or less, she treated her as a mother. " Yes, I'm definitely leaving this time. " " I see. I knew this day would come. " " You knew? " " Of course, I've been watching you closely these past eighteen years after all. " Erin was silent for a moment. " Then.. " " I asked Galvin beforehand to prepare the necessary items to prepare for your travels. Clothes and everything else were included. All awaits is your departure. " Erin couldn't control the emotions stirring inside her. It was a subject she dislike to think about, much more to actually discuss with someone. Surprised and strangely relieved that someone is willing to go that far to help her, Erin turned to return the embrace " Thank you. " The only word that she could mutter in her state was a simple thanks. Elena comforted the sobbing girl with a taunting expression. Her mouth couldn't help but curve widely to that of a mischievous grin. Foolish girl, the maid thought to herself. It might sound a petty reason, but there are many wishing for a change. They grew wary of their longevity, wishing to experience something new. Many propose on opening their little town to others. However since Erin is here, her father, the chief, refuses to do so. Because of that, Erin became the target of scorn to those who wanted freedom. If she would quietly disappear somewhere in the Sea of Trees, along with all of their worries away, it would be perfect. Of course, Erin isn't so oblivious to not notice their loathsome glances. It was indeed the perfect opportunity for her to disappear. But she miscalculated one thing, she had no allies to begin with. All are snakes, creeping slowly, waiting for the right opportunity to nudge her exposed skin. * * * Erin had taken Elena at her word. As she changed out of her dress, her mind wandered to her trip. She would be leaving their walls and traversing the Sea of trees by herself, taking on a journey that would no doubt burn her away in fatigue, and a slight carelessness could lead her life to danger. However with their sixth sense, traveling on the forest labyrinth is much easier as they could asked the spirit and trees for direction. An ability only available to one with close ties to nature, such as themselves. Directly to the west is a Merchant town called Saphir, and that's where she plans to start her new life. " I can't wait for my upcoming adventure, " she spoke in front of her mirror, speaking to nobody in particular. She pulled the hairbrush through her hair as she gazed upon her reflection. Wearing her sized leather boots, and a plain white tunic matched with a three layered ruffled skirt held by a leather belt. Her golden hair is tied in two short twintails that is drooping down over her marvelously flat chest. In the depths of of her viridian eyes lies a hint of woe, and the straight bangs covering her eyebrows are quietly blowing in the light breeze that's flowing through the air. Her smile was lovely, free of judgement and deceit. Carrying on, she reached towards the daggers she set on top of her wooden table. Both weapons are mementos from her late mother. As her hands glide at each handle, she felt the link starting, and the mana from her body draining consistently. At the same time, multiple voices echoed inside her head. [ Lady Eririn, are we leaving? ] [ Seriously, to not feed us in two days. ] The first one to spoke is Levasti, while the one who grumbled is Volius, and they are both what they call a Spirit weapon. They could be both annoying at times, but Erin treasures them dearly and treat them like family. [ Yes. I'm counting on you both. ] Erin replied in her thoughts as she sheathed both of her daggers on her waist. By using a spirit weapon, one can amplify their magical prowess many times and can cast powerful spells at ease, depending on the weapons element. Just by wielding one, your basic parameters would take a leap. But there's a few downsides. Spirit weapons survive by feeding on their user's mana and requires a tremendous amount before they could even function properly. Mana capacity is determined at birth. There really isn't a known way to increase your mana but it is said that it's close to impossible not to have any. Another downside is that the wielder's thoughts are conveyed to each other, forming a link and because of that, Erin couldn't hide a single thing from her nosy spirits. [ Won't you say goodbye to your father? ] Levasti asked in the tone of a worried mother. [ You know that's impossible.. ] Erin answered back a bit coldly. Unfazed by the cool breeze, she breathed the fresh air and gazed upon the view of their yard once more. It is time! The sun's flare arced across the dismal sky; the afternoon is beginning to fade. Using Elena's help, they were able to stealthily leave the manor without any trouble. It's as if everything was carefully planned or just nobody paid attention. Erin felt it was weird but set the feeling aside and decided to trust the person she considered a second mom. Once again, the feeling of dread swelled in her chest as they passed through the small town their ancestors created through the years. It's as if she doesn't exist. No spiteful gazes. No hurtful murmurs. None of the usual abuse she usually get. Are they being considerate since today is my birthday? Continuing on, they finally reached the outskirts of the town. Waiting for them at the edge of the town is a familiar figure, tugging a horse behind his back. A man of small stature with ashen gray hair and eyes. He bears a scar on his face going all the way down through his left cheek and dark bags under his eyes. Dressed in a suit with a glossy finish and laces that can be used to adjust the width of his jacket. " Lady Eririn, I have prepared all that's needed to be prepared. Will you be departing this very moment? " " Yes. I appreciate the concern you both. " Gripping her hand tightly, the maid spoke tearfully. " May the Goddess Aestrea be with you. " Erin gave the two a quick hug and shepherd the horse away. She need to quickly leave before her Father notices her absence. To her innocence, she doesn't know. That an eerie trap awaits. A grand scheme formulated by the persons she trust, dying to see her dead. The maid tugged a handkerchief from her pocket and mopped her fake tears with it. Seeing her wicked reaction, the small man couldn't help but shrug. " Man, your really twisted you know... I don't think she deserves all of these though.. " " Everything is the will of the Goddess. " Galvin clicked his tongue and ambled towards the direction of the woods. " Goddess my ass.. " * * * The sun was long gone below the ridgelines, the light falling fast and the forest stood grey in the dusk. The place seemed inhabited by great force of loneliness and spirits glow much more naturally in the full dark. Soon after saying her goodbyes to the two, Erin headed northwest. Everything that she would need on her journey was already prepared beforehand. Her merchandise, food, money and a horse for transportation. Lacking the courage to trek in the darkness, Erin formed a campfire. For her, making a campfire is but a simple task. Simply gathering enough firewood that were lying around, Erin sparked fire by using Volius. [ To use me in such a manner... ] The talking weapon opposed to be used as a simple lighter. To think a grand artifact like himself would be reduce to a pitiful job, he could scarcely believe it. [ Don't worry, I'll use you for cutting vegetables later. ] [ What?! ] Ignoring the loud spirit, Erin carried on with her task. After setting the campfire, she looked for a comfortable log to sit on. She sat and examined the sky. Something about the color of the sky and the smell of the burning log brought her mind to her current troubles. [ Neh, was my decision to leave the mansion really correct? ] Erin spoke in her thoughts. [ Whether or not it's right or wrong, only the future could tell. ] Levasti replied. [ Besides, I'd rather have you do what you like rather than stay in that place where you have no freedom. ] [ Mhm... But Elena and Galvin really do want me dead, huh? ] [ I do not lie. Their reasons I do not understand. Galvin is debatable but even so, their both snakes. ] [ I see... Then what shall I do? ] [ For now, go get some rest. You need it. Tomorrow, we will discuss our course of action. ] [ Mhm.. Goodnight... ] The full moon stood directly overhead, it's disc softened by the humidity in the air. The sky glimmered silver, too bright for the stars. In that darkness, Erin quietly listened to the surrounding spirits hum their music. Leaning her dainty back against a tree, she quietly close her eyes to sleep. Drifting into the distant sea of dreams, she sought another friend. |

Chapter 2: Kill me baby That time, it was a chilly windy day... Her skirt was lifted by a gust of wind, revealing a childish underwear, and yet her gaze was still directed on my own. Her gaze lingered before she spun around, facing the edge of the roof. " What is it? " I asked the girl, who is standing at the edge of the roof, with a surprised look. For with a light push, she could fall and die. Of course I would be worried. So I approached her slowly, till I finally reached the place where she stands. " Keisuke... do you really not remember? " " Remember what? " She turned around to face me once more. But when she did, her face was moist with her deep feelings. " Our promise... " I stand dumbfounded at her words. I'm not the type of guy to neglect and If I made a promise of some sort, I will uphold to my words no matter what. That's how my father raised me. " Umm... " " .....It's no use huh? Looks like the only choice left for me is to dye your hands with blood. " * * * Squinting his eyes open, Keisuke realize that the day was ending. " Yet another dream about the past... " Awoken by a lucid dream regarding those times when everything was normal. However those dreams have always reminded him that he's taken a life. The life of his childhood friend. The school bell chimed once more and everybody hurriedly left their seats and started to go home. Keisuke quickly packed his stuff and left in a haste to avoid unnecessary trouble. He slept the whole afternoon in class after all. Not something that he fancied doing. He-- Keisuke, or kei for short, is your somewhat regular boy at the blooming age of nineteen. If he had any redeeming qualities, its his never ending stamina that he acquired from his faithful compliance to his father's daily training manual. Thanks to his father drilling such nonsense into his body, he develop a habitual routine and is forced to wake up before sunrise. An hour of pushups and situps consecutively every morning ever since he was eight. His body is slender, yet well toned.. Also, his eyes are always slitted, causing him to appear like a cold-hearted person, although the smile on his face belies that opinion. Other than that, his looks are pretty average and so is his height at 172 cm. Keisuke maintains an outer facade that made it difficult for people to discern his thoughts but truth to be told, he just wants to be left alone. Because deep in his heart is regret... It all happened three years ago, when an accident that he would never have thought to occur, occurred. It was an accident, but for him, it was different. He killed her, he killed his childhood friend. Naturally, one would be crying over the loss of their important person. However in his eyes, no tears... no sadness... nothing. Ever since then, he's been wearing the face of a liar. Even for himself, it was a big mystery why did he do such a thing. Why did he push her to die? Three years had passed since that unfortunate incident and he is now regularly attending high school in this town, while enjoying the privileges of living alone by himself. Most of his free time these past three years had been heavily invested by embracing otaku culture. It would have been another regular day supposedly but in front of his six tatami apartment is a bishoujo. On his way home from school, he spotted her standing right outside his apartment. Curious, he approached her with a welcoming smile. " Umm, can I help you? " " Keisuke... " Upon closer inspection, she's a lady of fair height, with long black hair and fair white skin. Her friendly behavior almost made his heart skip a beat, yet the dark air surrounding her caused him to retreat. " I apologize, but who are you? " " Mou.. It's not you! It's Reina.. " The girl crosses her arms and started pouting. At the same time, a sudden hit of nostalgia filled up his chest. Reina... That's the name of my dead childhood friend.. But Reina's already dead... I killed her... Who am I kidding. Although their way of talking is entirely different, her facial features, most notably her dark brownish eyes strikes an eerie similarity. Its exactly how he imagined his childhood friend would turned out to be if she happened to live for three more years. But he saw her coffin entombed underneath the earth himself and that thought alone made him think its impossible to be her. " Nggh!! " Just as he was indulge in his deep thoughts, the girl pulled him flat against her body and kissed him. Her soft lips and tongue touched his and immediately, he felt heat moved through him. His desires controlled him, he wrapped his arms around her, pressing her body into his, their kiss deepened. The only thought that circled his mind is; I want more kisses... A whole lot more. Yet in the midst of his malicious desires, he managed to break free, gently pushing the girl away. " I'm sorry, but could we come inside first? " Is what he said but in reality, he just want to sweep her away, that very moment, and have her all to himself. The girl quickly agreed to his suggestion with a quick nod and an enchanting smile. She glanced at every nook and nanny of his house like she's someone familiar while she quietly followed him from behind. Is she really Reina? No No... This is another person, Keisuke convinced himself. He wanted to think rationally. There were plenty of reason as to why he couldn't accept this person in front of him. For three years, Keisuke was haunted by the sight of her unmoving corpse bathed in blood. Wearing a stiff grimace in death, her hair was mattered and bloodied, pressed into the hollow opening of her crushed skull. Her mouth is open, her chin receding as though she were wheezing. " Keisuke, where's your teacups? " Without him realizing, the girl was already preparing tea. She casually made use of his little kitchen inside his home. He gave up and just sat there, as he stares at her butt swag side to side while she humms a song.. " MhmmmMhmmmmMhmmhMhmmm~ " The voice of an angel continues to echo... " Sorry for the wait! Here's some tea! " With a loud bam, his poor wooden table was slammed and a simple teacup was placed in front of him. The aroma of a freshly brewed tea tickles his nose. However, its not enough to erase his suspicions. " Th-Thank you... " " Anything for Keisuke! " The girl casually sat beside him afterwards while catching him some sidelong glances. He thought, Who is this mysterious girl that is the spitting image of Reina? There was something about her smile and the hard glint in her dark eyes that sends an extreme quiver in his brain. Little by little, he felt fear slowly gripping his body and an ominous feeling surrounding his heart. " Umm, where did you---- " " Keisuke's forgotten about me, haven't you? " She cut him off before he could even finish, as if realizing what was circling in his mind. " Its not that... I mean.. Are you really Reina? " " ..... " She answered him with silence and her face drained of the vitality it had seconds ago. To somewhat dispel that feeling of dread, he tried to reached her pretty face, but she shoved his hand away. " Liar.... Keisuke's a liar... " Her voice was barely whisper but it ringed loudly inside his head... Her expression became more and more heartbroken until it was filled with nothing but putrid hatred. " Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! Liar!! " Each and every word that escaped her mouth pierced his heart like a well sharpened blade. But he swallowed it all inside him while he tightly held the raging girl inside his arms. He feel as though a knife would pierce his chest, yet he fought that anxiety and embraced her even tightly. Think myself! What can you do to calm her?? Panic was rapidly clouding his thoughts when suddenly, an idea sparked in his mind. " I... I just bought a wedding ring for Reina! It's in my room, yeah! " He babbled out whatever excuses that came to mind. " Really? " The girl calmed down as soon as she heard him say those words. Upon noticing her demure expression, Keisuke sighed and thought, Seems like that lie worked somehow. " Yes, really. I've been meaning to give it to Reina... I'm thinking of a grand proposal to surprise you... But now, its not much of a surprise anymore, right? " Yet another conventional deceit casually left his mouth, but he has no choice but to lie to this girl who's dangerously smitten with him. " Keisuke's not lying? " " Of course not. " " I'm Keisuke's one and only? " " But of course.. There's nobody else.. " " Keisuke.. " The girl closes her eyes and gently buries her head onto his chest, returning his loving embrace. She affectionately rubbed her head onto his chest to tickle him, and after satisfying herself, looked up to him with fluttering eyes and said, " I want Keisuke to spoil me.. " So he kissed her, but as soon as his lips touches hers, she aggressively took the lead and forced her tongue inside his mouth! " Ngnnh!!! " " Ch..nm..Keisuke..I love you.. Mmnngh.. " Their tongues intertwined while her soft hand reaches out to his waist, down to his cherished brother.. " Annh.. I want more of Keisuke.. " She seductively whispered into his ear as she pants, her lips sticky with their spit. And then... Shoook! " Ehh----? " Red droplets of blood quickly filled his mat along with the strong intense stench of iron that filled the entire room. When his eyes traced the blood's origin, he saw a dagger stabbed deep into his chest. How and where it came from, he doesn't know. " What... " His mind went blank and his normally slitted eyes widened in shock. " Its too troublesome to explain.. So, would Keisuke kindly die for me? " Just when he thought she was joking, the girl twisted the knife in his chest and flashed him a very scary smile. One that is enticingly beautiful but hidden underneath are dark emotions spewing out putrid hatred. " Arrghhhh! Rei..na..! " The puncturing sensation quickly reminded his brain of the antagonizing pain he should have felt right away. " Does it hurt? " It does! It hurts! The pain was even more intensified when the girl pulled the knife out so suddenly, making more blood spurt out as his lifeless body collapse on the floor. " Die! Die! Die! Die! " He couldn't muster enough air to scream or talk.... He was repeatedly stabbed without mercy. The girl skewered his chest countless times and bathed herself in his blood as she wears an ecstatic smile. " I really love Keisuke... The face that Keisuke just made is truly the finest! " His vision remains frozen while everything is turning into blackness. He want to scream. Scream loud enough to justify the severe pain that he's feeling, but nothing left his mouth other than his blood that stained his mat crimson. " I should give Keisuke a parting gift, neh? " This demon.. Who is this demon? Rapidly, he's losing his grip to everything, but before he lost all senses, he felt a warm and wet sensation touched his lips. It was the kiss of death. Her threatening laughter and sinister smile of death were etched in his heart, as his consciousness fades away. Just like falling into an endless pit of darkness. |

Chapter 3: Fated Meeting The young man woke with a start, thinking it must be daylight, then realized the security light of the sun was shining brightly on his eyes. He rubbed his eyelids to adjust to the sudden brightness, as he raised his burdensome back from the ground. As if it was a natural thing to do, he immediately laid flat on the ground to go about his morning exercise. An hour of pushups and situps consecutively to stir every cell in his body. After finishing his morning routine, Keisuke only then realized his current predicament. He seemed to have woken up on a bed of leaves in this seemingly unfamiliar place that resembles a forest. When he looked around, the only thing that filled his view are trees. Trees that closely resemble each other surround him on all four sides. Different kinds of shrubs, plants, and greenery that he couldn't recognize. " That's right... That psychopathic bitch killed me... " A worried voice came out of his mouth as he examined his chest for wounds. However, there are no such things.. No sign of getting stabbed but his uniform soaked in blood and memory, are proof enough that it happened. " What in the world just happened? Is this a dream? Or is my soul now on it's way to heaven? " Keisuke pinched and slapped his cheeks to wake himself up from this nightmare, yet the sensation of reality is there. Seeing no other choice, he quickly brushed the dirt off his clothes, and started to survey his surroundings. Unlimited amount of trees as far as his eyes could see. Snatches of sky peek through the leaves, a mosaic in blue and green that shifts gently with the wind. Keisuke stare in it, allowing his focus to be stolen, looking beyond the leaves and branches. Bothered by his messy hair hindering his vision, he shove it back using both hands, giving him that slick look, albeit bloody. " Can't believe I'll use my own blood like a hair gel... Oh well. " Continuing on, he passed through a sunlit clearing, and an amazing sight unfolded in his eyes. Standing on a high cliff, he saw a humongous tree standing tall like a wall, with branches that is thick enough to accommodate several tree houses and leaves that are so big he can use it as a bed sheet. " Holy hell... Just like those Yggdrasil trees from the net games I play all the time.. " Clearly, a forest as beautiful as this should be well known, yet no matter how many times he pondered, there's no recollection in his brain. Keisuke's not the best in his class but he's confident that he has good grades. Good enough at least to persuade himself that he is in an entirely different world. However, such conclusions needed more verification before he lands his final judgement. So he stared in pure amazement until a weird growl came from his stomach. " I'm hungry... " That feeling made him moved his legs to find something that could relish his hunger. The view didn't change much no matter how many times he continued moving forward. Am I to die a slow death by myself in these woods? Whatever, thinking negative certainly wouldn't help me right now. He set the dark thoughts aside and continued walking endlessly in what seemed like a forest labyrinth. To quench his thirst, he swallowed his spit several times already, but it didn't help. Not even a single drop of water has graced his mouth ever since he ventured. For how long have I been walking? Even my sense of time had been lost. His built up fatigue and dehydration is slowly vexing him, but with all that, he still proceeded to drag his legs forward. His eyes that is slowly losing hope went upward to the skies and wished for a rain, but with the sun shining ever so brightly, it was a hopeless wish. Instead, his carelessness caused him to trip over a gigantic root, and his back rolling against a tree. Several complaints left his mouth while his body groans in pain. Seems like I strained myself big time... Not too long ago, he was just a regular student living a blissful life. Just when he thought he could finally absolve the guilt in his heart, this happened! If this is not heaven, then this must be hell in disguise. " Herbs? " A feeling of anxiety started to fill his heart when he suddenly noticed the patch of herbs on the ground in this wilderness. They are curious looking and even comes in a wide variety of colors. Reminiscing what he remembered in class-- herbs contain a few ounces of water and maybe alcohol, while others contain a deadly poison along with different kinds of nutrients. It's certainly dangerous to just eat them carelessly without having the proper knowledge to ascertain if they are safe or not. Heck, he's not even positive if these greenery in front of him are really herbs or what. Keisuke decided not to care anymore. Rather than dying out of thirst or hunger, he might as well be a little adventurous! Keisuke didn't waste a moment and started nibbling on the herbs right away. Red, blue, yellow, green, it doesn't matter what color it is! The only haven these herbs found is inside his mouth. Even dirt was consumed along with the herbs, but he still felt satisfied. Although that feeling of happiness didn't last as it was immediately replaced by a throbbing pain. " Arrrrgggghhhh......!!! " His body curled up on it's own, trying to subdue the distressing pain cursing in his nerves. All of the blood vessels in his body pulsated as if it they were alive, and his head ache as if someone is trying to tear it apart. Intensive pain shot from his stomach, ascending to his mouth, and out by a cough. The ground was stained with his blood, but he could do nothing to stop the blood from gushing forth. " Haaaaaaaaaaa......!!! " To subdue the unbearable pain, he grit his teeth hardly and bashed his forehead on the ground, yet all it did was inflict him more suffering. Keisuke clearly wasn't thinking right when he unrooted more herbs from the ground, and hurriedly put them inside his mouth. As he crunched these newly picked herbs, the pain gradually subsided, but it was immediately replaced by a different kind of agony. His veins continue to pulsate and torment his mind, nonetheless, he still repeatedly consumed the herbs. He put it around his teeth, squished it, and swallowed.. A moment of peace comes after but seconds later, the suffering returns with an even greater intensity. For countless hours, that horror went on again and again.. " Haa...Haa...Haa... " Tears rained from his eyes and disgusting drool like bubbles left his mouth. After countless hours in misery, the pain finally dwindled by itself. From his hazy vision, there is only darkness. " Ha....Its cold..... " Keisuke closed his eyes to rest, while enduring the stinging chill that resides by the wind. * * * Upon opening his eyelids once more, Keisuke felt as if a day had passed. The sun brightly envelop the cold dark forest with it's warm light. Even the slightest bit of movement sends his body screaming in pain. The leftover taste of the herbs is sweet but soon mix with the smell of blood and taste of iron. The appearance of those herbs that almost killed him was deeply engraved in his mind and he soon began to call it wicked herb. As if he was mocking death, Keisuke spat on the herbs and grinned. If I spark any masochistic tendencies later on, it will be this herb's fault! Pain, hunger, hatred... A mixture of those of emotions are stirring up inside him, but he won't be defeated! His spit was mixed with blood and certainly moving his mouth to a grin was a foolish move. Yet he needed to disturb his thoughts somewhere else or the intense suffering would drive him mad. It hurts like hell. To escape this feeling of starvation, he forced his still unsteady body to stand up and continued walking. Slowly, he dragged himself to walk while he bit his lips in silence, distracting himself from the onslaught of pain in his innards. Saaa... As he advanced towards the rugged path, he heard the faint sound of rustling water. Surely he thought his mind might be playing tricks on him, or the pain is causing him to hear deceptions. At the state of despair, his thoughts warped up, giving him energy from nowhere. However, that useless excitement caused him to tumble and fall, with his left ankle twisting in an unsightly manner. " Shiit.. " The fall resulted in more injuries and him kissing his left leg goodbye. With his current state, standing up to walk is but a dream, so he crawled and dragged his body using his dominant right arm. Keisuke persistently hold onto the dirt and pulled himself forward. From the narrow opening of his squinting eyelids are his bloodshot eyes, and his mouth drooling blood. Persevere myself!! Slight fear and excitement filled his body as he drew closer and closer to the noise. Will it be a body of water? Or will it be a fruitless journey? After finally making his way pass the bushes, what greeted Keisuke is a..... " A Goddess... " Those words unconsciously left his lips as he stared in awe at the glorious sight in front of him. Long flowing blonde hair that shimmers even under the clear blue sky, paired with an ever so enchanting face. A delicate frame that has yet to be tainted and a bosom that hasn't fully matured! Like the snow that glistens under the moonlight, her skin is clear and translucent as if it would melt at any moment. Her wet naked body is truly a sight to behold! She doesn't have much boobs but no problem! I'm on the flat-chested side! Her glorioussness is standing butt naked while enjoying the lake water to wash herself in this natural forest clearing. At the edge of the lake is a horse and what seemed to be a merchants backpack. However, Keisuke payed no heed to such trivialities. In his mind, the only thing that he wanted to know is what lies pass nirvana. This garden of forbidden delight awaits me!! Its like the devil is whispering in his ears to fully witness her glorious body. Unsatisfied with his position, Keisuke crawled his way pass the remaining bushes up until to the very last one. He kept his eye back from a gaping hole, like a sniper keeps his eye back from a scope. Its as if he had forgotten all of the pain tormenting his body just moments ago. Weeeshhooo!! An air of mystery veiled the girl and Keisuke suspected that her secrets were extraordinary. Curiosity drew me to her, his thoughts trying to justify his perversion. " Ahh..... " Unknown to Keisuke, his dark thoughts were already leaking out and the girl perceived his ominous desires. Upon realizing that a certain Keisuke is peeping, she turned her gaze towards his direction, and angrily wrapped a towel around her petite self! That reaction alone is enough for him to realize its a death flag. " XX-XXX-XXXX!!! " The girl shouted with an angry expression on her face. However, he could not understand a single word that left her mouth. But Keisuke still thought of answering, for he felt that if he didn't, he'll be roasted alive. And even if he disguised himself as an animal now, it most probably won't work. " I am but a tree!! Please do not mind me and continue!! This tree will now become one with the others. " Panic clouded his mind and whatever excuse that he was thinking left his mouth at the same time. However, such flimsy excuses just dug him deeper towards his grave. The girl immediately conclude that Keisuke is a pervert. " XX-XXXXXX.... " " Haiyeee...! " Keisuke tried to get away, but it was in vain! The girl mumbled some words at a distance, aiming something at Keisuke's direction. Keisuke felt a weird concentration of energy gathering around her, as she continues her spell-casting-like behavior. " XXXX-XXXXX-XXX! " Wind accumulated on the girls hand and soon became an electric current that flew towards him! Keisuke, out of frenzied mode couldn't do anything but wait for the lightning bolt to struck him. " What the shit--! Aiyyyaaaaa!! " Keisuke squealed like a little girl, barely avoiding death thanks to the shrubbery that is shielding him. In turn, the shrubbery surrounding him had been burnt to crisp. Lightning bolt. One of the basic forms of lightning mastery. The power is weak but the pain it inflicts prolonged to the target, paralyzing their body. For a wounded pervert like Keisuke, it's more than enough. Keisuke tried to lift a finger, but he couldn't. The only thing that he could muster in his dire position was an apology. Apology for the sudden genocide of his partner in crime, shrubs. The girl then cautiously approached him afterwards, carefully observing his reaction. Making sure if her recent attack really did have an effect or not. Their gazes met and Keisuke started to plead like a beaten up dog. " Please! Let me expl---! " The girl violently whacked his face with a wooden stick she picked on the ground without even letting him finish. Such brutal actions coming from a girl possessing an angelic appearance! Keisuke felt heartbroken and thought, Is what they call a 'Tsundere'? The girl's action were certainly brutal but everything was his fault to begin with. Blood started dripping from his nose and the intense suffering in his head resurfaced. " XXX.. XXXX!! " A fearsome aura shrouded the girl while her beautiful green eyes suddenly flash red, staring at him blankly. Keisuke knew the girl mistook him for a pervert, and his actions clearly justifies that impression. Yet he wanted to made it clear that that wasn't his intention. " XXX XXXXX XXX XX XXXXX!! " " No... Please!! Please stop!! Ai--AIYEEEE!!!! " And after that, Keisuke was mercilessly beaten up. For the girl, it was a nice stress relief. |

Chapter 4: The Pitiful Night had come and the pervert continuous to sleep. Erin dragged the boy's wounded body towards the campfire she just made, feeling somewhat remorseful that she knocked him unconscious. While maintaining her distance, she watched Keisuke with an unusual curiosity. " His black hair... It's the first time I've seen one... " Because of Keisuke's asian heritage, his eyes and hair are black. To where he came from, it's the norm. However for Erin, the color black represents a malicious entity. It represents something diabolical, something that was taught in her childhood. For the only people that boast black hair and eyes are the apostles of the God of Destruction. [ Levasti, is this what they call a human? ] [ No doubt about it, judging from the shape of his ears, that can only be the logical conclusion. ] [ I see... He doesn't look much different from the males back home though. ] From her village's teachings, humans are known as vile creatures. They are the type of creature that will not hesitate to stab you in the back, friend or foe, just to satisfy their needs. The types that would do anything to succeed, no matter how dirty they become. Humans live a much shorter lifespan compare to them, but their tenacity for victory and thirst for knowledge has made them one of the most dangerous race out there. [ That is correct. But what I find confusing is that I can't trace The Goddess Aestrea's blessing inside his body. ] [ Then what does that entail to? ] [ My apologies, but I do not know. ] Erin crouched down and stared at Keisuke's dire position. His body covered in cuts and his clothes smeared in blood. [ Should I cast healing magic after all? ] Erin said with a sigh. [ That would be a foolish move. Until we confirmed his reasons, he can only be hostile in my eyes. Then again, the only price for peeping, is DEATH! ] Levasti replied. Her tone was that of an angry mother. Erin's face relaxed into a smile but all too soon it fades. She shook her head and threw off the odd thoughts. [ He's gross alright... ] [ I suggest you tie him up... ] Keisuke smiled in his sleep and for Erin who's observing him up close, he was a disgusting sight. Contemplating Levasti's wonderful idea, Erin forcefully stuffed the cloth she used to clean her horse inside Keisuke's mouth. As if that wasn't such a horrible deed already, she tied him up like a worm. Looking down on Keisuke's miserable state, Erin smiled with childish delight. * * * It was already late night when Keisuke awoke to the pleasant warmth of the cracking fire in front of him. The ground was made to be his bed and a few ways besides him is a small dark lake reflecting the moon. Keisuke immediately realized that he passed out again and his body was then tied up like a worm and a piece of clothing was forcefully stuffed inside his mouth. His tied up position is making it hard for him to look and move around. Tak.. Tak.. Tak.. " MMMMM!!! MM!! MMM!!! " Keisuke's senses suddenly reacted to the creeping noise approaching him. He heard soft footsteps slowly closing in from behind his back. With his position, he couldn't see what it is. Is it a demon, or is it death himself finally? Suddenly, a foot comes hurling towards his face, hitting the tip of his nose right on, banging his eardrums in the process. The damage that was inflicted immediately showed on his nose, as the fresh smell of blood started to drip down again. " XXXX XX! " A girl's voice?, Keisuke finally remembered! It was that violent girl earlier! Never judge a book by it's cover indeed! Just when he thought her angelic appearance is there to soothe his pain, she just traumatized him even more. Tears started to accumulate in his eyes and his calm reverie was shattered. Keisuke's in a state where his heart would break and fall apart any moment now. When the girl entered Keisuke's line of vision, she glared back at him with eyes of disgust. Ignoring Keisuke with a " Hmph! ", she proceeded to make a pot of hot soup. Cutting the unnecessary side of the vegetables with her knife, adjusting the fire properly using her magic, and last but not the least is the seasoning. After a while, she transferred the contents to a smaller bowl making Keisuke smell that delicious aroma. The scent wafting through his nose, as it leaves a tingling yet burning sensation. It aroused his stomach so much, to the point where his mouth watered down. Using all of his remaining energy, Keisuke -- spat as hard as he can, forcefully removing the gag outside of his mouth -- did the impossible. " Cough Cough!! " His actions drew the girl's attention and she walks up to him with an irritated expression. " XXXX XX XXX XXXX? " " Please.......ma.y...I....have..some? " His mouth devoid of water made it painful for him to speak. If not for the blood, snot, and tears that flowed down to his mouth, he felt like he would have already collapsed. Even if the mixture of those three liquids that came from within him are disgusting, he still savored it. " XXXX XXX XXXXXX XXX...... " The girl replied, as if saying that she won't share anything to him. The soup's aroma continue to fill his lung with flavor, only to put a damper on his taste buds after realizing that he can't taste it. Could this girl be afraid of what I'll do if my hands are free? The girl ignored him throughout the night no matter how many times he tried pleading. Morning had arrived and Keisuke's situation has gone from bad to worst! His mouth is still dry and his body is itching all over. The blood from his nose had dried up, blocking the air from entering his lungs comfortably. The first thing that filled his view was the violent girl who's busy cleaning her campfire. She looks like she's about ready to leave while he's still there lying on the ground. After seeing that she had no plans to release him, the tiny glimmer of hope Keisuke was holding onto was rendered, and he felt his death looming. Keisuke gave up on struggling for it would only be in vain. He closed his eyes and thought, at least like this, I could finally rest in peace. .....................................................Tik....... Just when he thought death had claimed him, he felt a drop of water on his cheek. That single drop of water eventually found it's way inside his mouth, giving him the necessary energy to plead one last time. Unknown to Keisuke that drop of water came from the horse's peepee. " Please...........my..bind.....off.... " " XXXX... " Seems like his final attempt to survive was ignored and the only replied he heard was her sighing. Keisuke closed his eyes again as he wait for his inevitable death to come. .............................. " XXXX XXX XXXXXXX XXX. " All of a sudden, the ropes that are binding his body had been cut off and and his hands were freed. As soon as Keisuke felt his limbs attaining freedom, he immediately went to the lake while crawling on all fours like a madman, drinking as much water as he can. Safe or not, it surely rejuvenated his dehydrated body. " Ahh... Feels good... " Being able to move freely is truly a wonderful thing. For Keisuke, that was first time he's ever been so thankful, yet the hatred he's feeling for the girl hasn't weakened at all. The first idea that came to his mind was rape. To addle her mind and body in repeated humiliation. An impish grin surfaced on his face and gradually, his mind is getting unstable. Keisuke's thoughts are getting darker and darker. The darkness that is swallowing his heart and soul is slowly corrupting him. " XXX XXXX " " Ehhh? " The girl approached him and casually sank on the ground beside him, clasping her soft hands on his broad back. Keisuke felt a weird energy accumulating in her hands and a few seconds after that, he felt a warm and comfortable sensation cloaking his entire body. Most of the internal pain from eating those wicked herbs and the injury she inflicted on him gradually subsided. Above all, the broken ankle that was tormenting him from before reverted back to normal, or the right word was that it was Healed. All of the dark thought occupying his mind had been washed away and in an instant, he saw the world in a new light. The girl brushed the dirt off her clothing, and quickly sprang back to her feet. " XX, XXXX. " She lowered her hand towards Keisuke with a simple smile on her face. Although for Keisuke, that simple smile saved him from succumbing to his emotions. Just like a ray of sun, her smile was brilliant, brilliant in it's warmth. A curve of sensuous promise, chasing the dark emotions away that were circling in his mind. It was a very beautiful smile that fixated his eyes on her. The two of them gazed at each other for what seemed like an eternity. And then, it ended as if it was a fleeting moment. How odd, he mused, but then thought better of it. Keisuke took her soft hand and arose from the ground like a phoenix. " Thank you. " " Hmph.. " She crosses her arms and Keisuke knew immediately that her worries had returned. Yet surely, Keisuke was positive he had seen that smile and posture somewhere, although he can't remember where. But still... Elven ears? Keisuke couldn't see much yesterday but now that he's looking at her up close, he noticed how her ears are much longer and pointier compared to his. Just like those elves from the net games that he plays all the time. Witnessing a mythical forest dweller he thought to be pure fantasy just now made Keisuke realize, that it really is a different world. One that is fundamentally different from where he came from. To relieve the girl from her worries, Keisuke smiled idiotically. Funny, her mouth curved into a silly way as soon as she saw him smile. Wait.. Was that a smile or was she mad at me? Either that was a smile or something else, Keisuke found a purpose in this parallel world. At that very instant, Keisuke promised to himself; I want to protect this girl's smile. Although the real meaning behind those words, and how heavy they are won't mean a thing to Keisuke until later on. Yes, this all began when he met her. |

Chapter 5: Malevolent Being able to move freely, Keisuke was able to noticed a lot of things. Aside from the girl's long elvish ears, the white part of her eyes(sclera) looks hollow. Because of that, her gaze can be somewhat cold. She's really young looking and slender with a thin face and smooth golden hair. Her eyes are vivid green and they shine brightly like an emerald. A nose with a pointed tip and light pinkish lips that perfectly matches her features well. She also looks like she's wearing casual clothing, although it's not something he would describe as normal. She wears a loose tunic with it's wrapped belt, a knife sheathed on her waist. There's just something that differentiates her from everything else. Keisuke find himself staring at her, completely fascinated. If he really did not experienced the events from today and yesterday, Keisuke would not hesitate to think that she's a delicate angel. But Keisuke wouldn't be fooled anymore. No matter how beautiful she appears, she's a very violent person. The girl is painfully watching his every move, so Keisuke took that opportunity to introduce himself. Although with their language barrier, that might be a tough case to crack. Nevertheless, Keisuke didn't lose hope. He wanted to befriend her. Attempting to introduce himself, Keisuke pointed at himself like a dummy, as he mentions his name. " He-llo! I am Kei-su-ke-! " However, the girl remained like a statue, still silently watching him. Keisuke realized his introduction was a failure, so he did it again. " Kei-su-ke---- " The girl perplexed at his actions, kicked him hard on the shin and smacked the heel of her hand on his forehead. Keisuke sprawled on the dirt, his vision spinning around. " XX-XXXX!! " The girl heeled backwards and resumed what she was doing before a certain annoyance had bothered her. Although, such a simple refusal like that isn't enough to break Keisuke's indomitable spirit. Keisuke got up and hastily chased after the girl, impeding her track. However this time, Keisuke only offered a friendly handshake towards the girl. " ......... " " Umm, handshake? " The girl just stared at his outstretched hand and after a moment of silence, crossed her arms and glance sideways to ignore him. Oh boy. Bothered by her unfriendly behavior, Keisuke pulled his hand back and just scratched his head with it, as he showed his most winning smile. However once again, Keisuke was ignored. The girl finishes her arrangements and mounted her horse. Her horse is geared for traveling, though with such a rugged forest like this, it made Keisuke wonder why she needed one. The girl left the clearing without even glancing at his direction or even offering any help to a clueless person like himself. A reaction he was somewhat expecting. Who would offer any help to a suspicious stranger like himself? Moreover, they couldn't even understand each other. How did I even got here? Keisuke have so many questions for himself but there's no way for him to answer them. At times like these is where one continues walking and search for a town. After reaching a conclusion, Keisuke followed the girl softly from behind. Rather than walking aimlessly, might as well use her as a guide, is what he thought. Because he could not sense if she was suspicious of him to any extent, he had not walked closer to the girl. The girl didn't seem to mind that he's following her, so Keisuke made use of that. " Wow.. Amazing, " Keisuke couldn't hide the astonishment in his voice. The scenery of the forest was indeed like a maze, until now. They reached an area with many beautiful flowers, as if those flowers were a landmark. Keisuke, intrigued by their appearance and stagnant smell, picked a few and held them behind his back. Although the flowers are beautiful, the girl didn't pause to admire them. Since for the girl, these flowers are something that she saw all the time. More than half a day had passed since Keisuke ventured after the girl, yet no signs of anything that will lead them out of the forest. Even the loud grumbling of his hungry stomach is pestering him, but he pressed on, maybe because that's the only thing that he could do. As they continue to move forward, the girl kept on glancing left and right. For some odd reason too, her horse is acting weird, refusing to cooperate. So she started walking.. " Umm.. " Keisuke politely approached the girl and walked next to her with hidden intentions in mind. He wanted to slid a flower behind her ear, but the girl forbid his chance by walking faster. It didn't escape Keisuke that she just avoided walking side by side. Damn. But Keisuke already predicted that response. This time, he lightly tap the girl's shoulder from behind, his right hand carrying the flower, is at the ready. " XXXX?! " And the chance presented itself! Swiftly, faster than the wind, Keisuke made use of that defenseless moment, and slid the flower resembling a lily, to her left ear. It was a success and Keisuke unconsciously let out a " yes! " . Its as if the flower was created for the sole purpose of being worn by her, it perfectly harmonized the girl's elusive appearance. "" ....... "" Keisuke prepared himself for the inevitable punishment brought by his foolish actions, yet there is none. Instead, the two of them were drawn into a staring contest. With an innocent smile on the girl's face, she giggled, and their gazes were broken. But that's all she did, and the girl resumed her walk. Keisuke was bewildered, but he quickly snaps back to reality. Her laughter was nicer than what he had expected, girlish and genuine. Although the girl acted as if it was nothing, deep inside, she's shaken. After all, those flowers are called Afule, and they represent a promise between lovers. For the girl's race who live a longer lifespan compare to humans, it is pact. A promise that they will meet again someday. For a race who could live centuries old, the word someday is extremely convoluted. Maybe a year, maybe a decade, maybe a century. A human's lifespan is but a fleeting moment. For a human boy to give this to a girl like her can only mean that, On my next life, I promise to find you someday. No matter how long it might take. Of course, Keisuke is oblivious to this fact. Truly, ignorance is a bliss sometimes. He only wanted her to be more relaxed with him. And once she is, she would be a treasure trove of information for him to abuse. What was that for? This guy's weird, The young maiden couldn't help but sigh. Cold silence envelop that side of the forest afterwards. Other than their footsteps, nothing else was heard. * * * The thickening in the air could be visibly seen and white fog soon surround them on all side, limiting their visibility. Every step they take, the fog is getting thicker and thicker. The absence of noise in this forest makes it more intimidating. Like someone or somebody of unknown origin is staring down at them with the intent to kill. Like the hunter silently waiting for it's prey. " XXXX-XX.. " The girl stopped Keisuke on his track with a harsh look. She probably meant " Hold on " or something like that. " Wha--- " " Shhh!! " Keisuke immediately felt the rising tension in the air. He quickly covered his mouth with his hands in panic and looked around, but there's nothing. However, the girl's face is still scowling, she must have sensed something. The silence was broken only by a quick rustle of the wind. Cautiously, the girl continued walking after that, leaving Keisuke no choice but to ran after her. The sunset was soon replaced by the dim glow of the moonlight, and eyes began to glimmer inside the tree hollows. Keisuke didn't mind the darkness himself, but the girl beside him is different. She tries hard to suppress it, but Keisuke could clearly see her feet shivering. Is she afraid of the dark? All of a sudden, monsters of all kinds that have hidden all day finally came out, and are glaring at them left and right. Just silently leering them as they walk. Keisuke was stunned, yet he was calm at the same time. He waited for the right opportunity to run, along with the girl. But the girl who couldn't contain her fear, sprinted and left her horse dumbfounded. " Waaaaaa!! " " Oi! " Thankfully, Keisuke was able to catch the horse's rein before it completely ran away. Strangely enough, the fearsome looking monster's just leered at Keisuke even after the loud shouting of that girl. Keisuke stopped and think for a moment on what could be the possible reason. In certain games, this type of skill would be...... Illusion? Is there somebody out there playing tricks on us? Although his mind is full of questions, Keisuke's main priority is to find the girl. As he stepped into the shadows, Keisuke saw a figure not too far from him. Keisuke followed his intuition and chased after this shadow. And over there, he found the girl holed up on the ground, right beside a tree. Seriously... what a troublesome princess, Keisuke discern in his thoughts. " XX-XXXXXX!!! " " It's alright. " Keisuke gently grabbed her hand, pulling her away from that dreadful place. No doubt his action and warmth had eased her mind. Surprisingly, the girl didn't revoke Keisuke holding her hand, and just quietly stared on the ground, as they made their way pass the darkness. Damn, her hands are soft... Thus, Keisuke ended up leading the way, although he has no idea where to go next. Just when he thought everything had calmed down, the girl stops walking. Keisuke looked back at her, her eyes are darting around nervously, and her free hand reaches out to her dagger; hanging on her waist. The girl silently glares at the empty space in front of them... Because of the thick fog, Keisuke couldn't really see what's in front himself. But his senses are kicking in, telling him that something strange is coming towards them from deeper within. " XXXX!!! " " What? " " XX-XX!!!! " The girl kicked him about and tugged him to move furiously. Keisuke panicked at her sudden declaration, but his body is quick to respond simultaneously. They started running but with the horse along with the girl's backpack with it, they couldn't run fast enough. All the while a horrifying presence is slowly closing in on them. The both of them realized that with their current pace, they wouldn't be able to escape! " Shit! " " XXX XXXXX!!! " The girl mumbled an incantation and a slightly curved blade of ice connecting to her dagger appeared. It's appearance is a reminiscent of a katana with a length comparable to a long sword while the blade itself produces an icy gale. " XXX!! " Her voice and actions are telling Keisuke to move, but his body refuses to comply. Once more, the girl kicked him away, this time with a compassionate gaze. Although they could not properly communicate, Keisuke understood what the girl wanted to convey. So he forced himself forward and started running desperately while tugging her horse behind his back. Behind him, the sharp metallic echoes of swordplay could be heard, an echo which sounded alien in the silent forest. |

Chapter 6: I promise The sound of his heart palpitating reverberated inside his eardrums. Keisuke continued running away from that noise, while not minding the dark thoughts occupying his mind. " I'm worried.. I'm worried.. I'm really worried!!! " But after thinking that she might be in danger, his body refuses to take another step forward. Keisuke honestly wanted to help the girl, even when he could just leave her here to fate and begone with it. He's not the type of assertive person who would dive headlong into danger. Yet something tells him that if he left that girl by herself, he would no doubt wither in regret for the rest of his life. Clearly, Keisuke's interest in her could be seen as romantic, but that's not all. The girl greatly reminded Keisuke of his childhood friend. Reina's hair is so dark that it was virtually black, and the girl is a green-eyed blonde, yet they were alike enough to be sisters. Both were 160 cm tall and slender. Each have delicate features and winning smiles. It's a disgusting thought for him to compare a girl he just met to his love one, yet he could not help it. Keisuke tied the horse's rein in a nearby tree and started scrambling the contents of her backpack. Clothing, bottles of liquid, and other kinds of merchandise. As he dug deeper, his hands reached to something cold. It piqued his curiosity right away and he took it out of the bag in a scuffle. " A dagger? " It's a dagger with a slightly longer blade than usual, with a sheath that is engraved by luxurious emblems and words that he couldn't read nor recognize. When Keisuke unsheathed the dagger, the same engravings could be seen, but in the middle of the blade is a red gem that resembles a cat's eye. Keisuke knew immediately that that dagger is something especial. He's played games long enough to understand the caliber of a weapon such as this one. Taking that very same dagger with him, Keisuke raced towards the opposite direction where he left the girl. Heck, she might not even need my help. But even so.. Keisuke quickly made his way through the conflict in a distance and immediately found her. After confirming that she's safe, Keisuke searched for a comfortable spot to spy on. Only naive and hot headed fools would dive in without any information, so he hid himself behind the bushes, and waited for the right opportunity to aid her. The girl seems to be very focused, tightly gripping her ice blade with both hands. What is she doing? Keisuke was perplexed, but when he looked at the space that she's glaring at, he felt a chill radiating from inside out. It was the same strange feeling from before, making his spine shudder in fear and his hair stand on end. What a terrifying presence!! " What.. " A black mist suddenly closes in on her, becoming a black shadow, submerging the forest with it's aura. The monster emerges from within the mist, taking the form of a humanoid beast with a head of a maned goat, boasting two enormous horns. It's muscles are thick and has three huge claws on each arm that looks like it would tear apart her skin like butter. The monster is covered in fur, while it's visible skin is painted dark purple. Final boss archetype? Already? Ever since becoming an otaku, Keisuke had read various things about young men like him transported to another world. For a closet otaku like Keisuke, it was supposed to be a dream come true. However, he can't feel an ounce of happiness for the setting that they provided for him. He didn't start in a comfort zone, he couldn't understand the girl, he experienced a suffering worse than death. Nevertheless, if fate will force him to fight a boss on the get go, he's already resolved himself to do it. For Keisuke, losing this girl could very well mark the end of his life here, and that's something he doesn't want to happen at all cost. Not until he finds the real reason as to why he was sent here in this parallel world. Much more, he doesn't want to lose Reina all over again. Yes, he was disgusted at himself, but deep in his mind, he wanted to atone for his sins. If his purpose in this world was not to save it from it's impeding doom, or live his life to the fullest, then it could only mean one thing. The monster rushes towards the girl almost faster than what his eyes could follow! But she gracefully dodges it's claws and retaliated a slash of her own. The girl dances with the blade, on a tempo that the monster couldn't follow. Just before, she was shaking in fear caused by the sudden darkness, but now, Keisuke can't feel a speck of fear in the girl's fighting style. By moving closer, she's eliminating her weak spots. It's effective and had given her the upper hand, but it's a daring move, for a single mistake here could end her life. Keisuke knew that such an advance stage was not for him, and a beginner like himself would just be a hindrance. He tightly clench his fist as he watched the battle unfold in his eyes. The girl is leading in terms of speed and technique, but she's slowly getting tired. The exhaustion written on her face said it all. If this drags on, her life would no doubt be in danger. No matter how many times she cut, her enemy keeps regenerating! Instant regeneration?! Cheat! But there's no time to hesitate. Keisuke took a deep breath, unsheathed the dagger, and slid it's fancy sheath in his pocket. Using his dominant right hand, he gripped the handle tightly, with the blade opposing his thumb. " Now! " Upon witnessing an opportunity, Keisuke quickly sprang to his feet and revealed himself to danger! Just like a bird of prey, he took a forward leap, and brought the knife down in a beautiful slanted cut towards the monster's behind. The resistance of flesh being cut is felt from his blade and arm. A burst of fire followed the line of cut, boosting the damage inflicted. " Grooaa!! " The monster let out a loud screeching noise that echoed throughout the forest, freezing Keisuke momentarily. It's supposed to be hurt, yet the suffocating aura around the monster hasn't subsided at all. " Shit!! " Just when it's attention shifted towards Keisuke, the girl took that chance to swipe it down. Half of it's body fell on the ground, splattering it's gore everywhere. Not even a scream was heard this time as the attack was too swift for it to follow. " XX, XXXX!! " " Ehh? What? " The girl raised her voice, leaning her body towards Keisuke. Even though he couldn't understand a word that left her mouth, he knew that she was just worried, and what he did was definitely careless. Unconsciously, he patted the girl's head and smiled like an idiot. " ....... " " Ahaha---- " From Keisuke's perpetual vision, he saw the monster finished regenerating in a flash, and immediately lunged towards them! Keisuke hurriedly shoved the girl aside, away from it's claws!! There wasn't any interval left for him to avoid!! Gritting his teeth hardly, Keisuke intercepted it's attack with his knife!! " Bloody hell!! " Klang!--His body flexed backwards just by receiving a single attack! Twisting his body sideways, Keisuke dodged the left claw that came in an unsightly manner. It was then he realized how thankful he was for doing all of those morning training. Drip... Drip... Keisuke barely avoided death, but he wasn't completely unscathed. Hollow pain came above, near his brain. Blood sprayed, and his left ear was completely shaved off by the monster's claw! " Aaghh.. " " Grrr... " The monster grinded it's teeth and leered Keisuke down with a death glare. Every cell in his body is telling him to run, but fear has already taken a hold of him, and his body refuses to move. The monster raises it's hand upward to the air, then it's sharp claws comes down. He wouldn't be able to avoid it! " XXXX!! " Suddenly, the girl takes a defensive stance in front of him, using her ice blade to block it's claws. She managed to block it in time but the impact was so strong that it threw her to a nearby tree where she collapses. " Nghhh!! " Her struggle broke into Keisuke's musings, and he rushed over to help her up, but it's no good, she's already unconscious. The beast immediately run towards them at a terrifying speed, while razing it's claws on the ground, accumulating a momentum to strike them with a sweeping motion. " Oi!! Elf-san!! Oi!! " The girl didn't flinch no matter how hard he shrugged her shoulders. " It's coming!! " With no time to evade, Keisuke just tightly held her unconscious body to guard her and grit his teeth to brace himself for the upcoming punishment. Kraaaash--The sound of it's razor sharp claws ripping apart his flesh! " Kaaaaggnnnhhh!! " The monster carved it's claws onto his back, forcefully hurling the two of them against a tree. That pain that had no name. It was otherworldly. " Guaaaghh! " The impact caused Keisuke to writhe and squirm, while dripping crimson from his mouth blew extreme amounts of blood!! Keisuke's wounds trailed his gore down the tree, and the two of them rolled on the dirt. Inexpiable pain curses throughout his body, but he still tightly held her within his arms to cushion her body from the fall. Keisuke's vision sways side to side as he tries to keep a firm look on the monster. It's slowly approaching them with a horrific expression. It's eyes doesn't think of anything else besides killing it's prey. Is this it?? Is this how my life would end?? I couldn't even protect her?? Fuck, somebody help us!! Keisuke cried for help, yet there was barely any strength left in his body. Not even enough for him to scream. Sweat-moist blond hair was cemented to the side of the girl's face. Her delicate features were salt-pale and clenched in anxiety, and her eyes were squeezed tightly shut. Both of them laid on the dirt, which is now a rapidly expanding pool of blood. His inability to change their fates made him curse himself. The outcome was already dictated, and he knew his death is imminent. Just her, if only she could survive this nightmare, I would have no regrets!! The torrent of blood gushing from his behind is rapidly eating his consciousness away. Starting from his waist to shoulder are three deep gashes that penetrated his skin. The pain coming from his backside was like a living being with fangs, one that is continuously gnawing him apart. His vision is blurring, and the feeling of his limbs had long abandoned his body. For Keisuke, there is only death. He's already lost so much blood that not even the most complex and advanced healing magic could save his life. " Aghhh---!! " As if fate was mocking him, the last thing that filled his thoughts was the girl's voice filled with despair. Chunks of what seemed to be internal organs spattered on his face. With his darkened vision, Keisuke couldn't even properly determine what type of suffering the girl adhered to. In his last moments, Keisuke thought... ---All of your suffering, I would bring to hell with me, and it could torment my mind forever, reminding me of my inability to protect you. If there is such a thing as God! Then grant me a miracle... Just wait for me.. I promise to save you from this fate.. no matter what.. He begged for a second life, for time to rewind, for him to undo his mistakes, but death isn't so considerate. Taking his last gasp of blood, the young man called Keisuke, had died. * * * Keisuke was plunged into oblivion... Falling endlessly in that hollow shaft where his cries echoed, and his pleas ignored. Nineteen years of his life flashed in that dark pit and something... something shattered. " Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-------------What? " When Keisuke opened his eyes, its as if everything else that transpired was just a bad dream... |

Chapter 7: Its only life It had gone noon, but the sun merely smoldered sullenly on Keisuke's eyes. However for Keisuke, what permeated in that light was not heaven or hell. It was the same exact forest that he mysteriously winded up to from before. " Haaa...n. " Keisuke swallowed hard. He just had a vision of his gruesome death after all. He reached to his left ear, and it's there. He reached to his back, and there's no wound. " Nightmare?? No... " Keisuke struggled to his feet and observed his surroundings. The same bed of leaves, the same trees that surround him on all sides, everything else is there. Keisuke was positive that he died. His death relieved him of that pain. Surely this must be a joke, yet he know what he felt is real. " Bluaaagh..! " Keisuke involuntary vomited after recollecting the recent events in his head. Just before he was plunged into total darkness, he felt it. Her scream, her warm blood, and her internal organs. Everything circled inside Keisuke's head. Going round and round. Keisuke had the dry heaves, crawling on his clothes, and the sour taste of his own vomit filled his dry mouth. His hands are shaking, searching for something to grab a hold to. Looking for someone that will answer all of his fearsome uncertainty. Yet those hands quickly changed into fist.. There is only one way for Keisuke to find out if everything else that occurred was a indeed a dream. " I have to see her again. " Keisuke took his bloody blazer off, and wipe his mouth clean with it. The plain white long sleeve he wore inside is also soaked in his own blood. Blood that came from the fatal injuries that was inflicted by that psychopathic woman. The woman who is strikingly similar to his dead childhood friend. " Was it that bitch who dragged me in here? " Keisuke discarded his blazer, and moving on, he passed through the same sunlit clearing. Fanned by the wind, his face felt the gentle breeze, and the very same breathtaking sight unfolded in his eyes. At the very center of this forest is a gigantic tree, that made others look tiny. It was far, very far away from him, giving Keisuke the conclusion that it was gigantic. No matter how many times he saw such a sight, it would never be deemed normal in his brain. For after all, no such thing exist in his world. Keisuke trod softly, but the only sound he heard was the whispering of the wind through the leaves. He walk and walk with no sense of direction, hoping to find something that could lead him to that clearing; the place where he met the girl. No accidents occurred this time, as Keisuke was aware of his surroundings. As if it was bound by fate to meet again, he came upon the very same patch of herbs that inflicted him hell last time. These goddam wicked herbs. Keisuke's mouth was flooded with saliva, so he made use of it. He spat on the wicked herbs and snickered away. The forest is indeed beautiful, yet the dangers surrounding it is surreal. After trampling over the herbs, Keisuke realized that he was nearing his quarry. Exhaustion has started to bother his thoughts, but he persevered. Nightfall came and he finally reached the same natural forest clearing; with a small crystalike lake from before. However, the girl is nowhere to be found. " Did I miss her? " Certainly, that was not the case. In his previous memory, Keisuke fought death by eating those wicked herbs. After cheating his way outside of hell, he passed out and when he awoke, it was already morning. Seeing there was a time lapse, Keisuke indulge himself with the lake water to replenish his lost energy. He stripped fully naked and used the lake as his personal bathtub. The lake water is cool and soothing. Warm or cold, it makes little difference once you sank into it. " Ahhh... I could stay here forever. " If only someone could explain the dysfunctional nature of events that just transpired. ---First, I was killed by the doppelganger of my childhood friend? ---Second, I was killed by that monster, along with that elf looking girl. ---Third, both of these deaths led me to that side of the forest? Shuru... Shururu... It was faint, but Keisuke heard something move in those shrubbery in front of him. Could my mind be playing tricks on me? Yeah right, I don't believe in such nonsense. Keisuke hurriedly donned his undergarments and pants on. Little by little, a silhouette of a woman came across the moonlight. Just when he was finished zipping his pants, a horrifying shriek bothered the entire forest. " Iyaaaa--!! " " Oi! I'm supposed to be shouting here!! " Keisuke panicked, so he immediately went after the shrieking girl. For a half naked man to chased after her, the girl thought Keisuke was a pervert. No other explanation needed to be said. It didn't even dawned in Keisuke's mind that he could understand her. Instantaneously, Keisuke grabbed her wrist and pulled her closer. " Look, I'm not dangerous. " Keisuke gently spoke, although with his arms entangled around the girl's waist, his words meant different. " W-What do you mean! " " Why are you so violent? " " Maniac! " The girl stomped on Keisuke's feet, and gave him a headbutt. " Ow! " Detaching his embrace from the girl, Keisuke flinched away, and rubbed his somewhat broken nose. The girl did a few back flips away from him, and her eyes flared, glaring at Keisuke in disgust. " I didn't expect to find a pervert in these parts! " " Wait... " The girl pointed her knife at his direction while mumbling some words that is similar to a magic incantation. " He who governs lightning, let your power gather through my fingers... Lightning bolt!! " Wind accumulated on the girl's hand, and soon became an electric current that flew towards him. But after witnessing the very same magic last time, its more than easy for Keisuke to avoid. He leap to the side and rolled, hiding himself behind the bushes. Her spell hit the tree a little ways behind Keisuke, toasting the trunk to cinders. " You violent woman!! I got here first!! " " What do you mean you got here first?! This forest is part of our territory human!! How dare you enter and pretend you don't know?! " Territory? Human? Keisuke was intrigued. Nevertheless, being referred to as a human left a bad aftertaste in his mouth. " Can I get myself dressed first and then I'll explain? " " Hmph! I'll wait over here then. " After their silly argument, Keisuke peeked on the shrub's gaping hole, and noticed the girl was missing. Hiding somewhere, waiting for him to drop his guard. However, there's no choice but to exposed his naked self to danger, or he might catch a cold. So he proudly jogged towards his clothes, and hurriedly donned his bloody shirt. " Haaa.... " As soon as Keisuke blew a sigh of relief, a dangerous being loomed behind him, accompanied by an eerie sharp object, grazing his throat. Keisuke wanted to scream and freak out, yet this sharp dagger pointed at his neck is preventing him from doing so. " Depending on your answers, the consequences can be dire. " She murmured enticingly. " ...I don't know. " " Oh really? " She slid a foot towards Keisuke's, and use that force to hurl him down the ground. The girl stepped on his chest and whacked his face with her boots, causing Keisuke to groan painfully. " Kuagh! " Seeing Keisuke whimper wasn't enough, she pressed her foot down. Her emerald eyes are shooting him some dubious glances. " You expect me to believe your lies? " " ...Yes. " To Kesuke's simple response, it irk her nerves. Because with his slitted eyes, the girl thought Keisuke was merely playing around. Lightly tapping his face with her leather boot, she directed his gaze towards hers. Giving Keisuke that icy cold glare. Meaning that if he lie, it would mean his death. " I was just going home from school and somehow or the other I met this girl who is the spitting image of my childhood friend... " " Go on.. Continue.. " The girl urged him to continue his story, her leather boot slowly sinking onto his chest made Keisuke reply right away. " What's more surprising is that they even carry the same name, but I knew it was impossible to be her since she already died three years ago. I attended her funeral and saw her coffin entombed underneath the earth myself... And now after three years, she appeared before me again, only to kill me in cold blood. For sure I thought I died, however for some reason, I woke up stranded by myself in this forest. I wandered and looked around and that's how I ended up meeting you... " Seeing there is no reason to lie, Keisuke honestly told her what has happened to him so far. Whether or not he was able to persuade her is unknown, but her violent expression gradually softened. Her eyes widened in surprise, like she couldn't believe what she just heard. Especially when Keisuke told her that he supposedly bled to death and a crazy girl around his age is out to take his life. " Are you telling me to believe that you just mysteriously ended up here unknowingly?? " " That seems to be the case. If you look at my chest, there's no wound, yet I know I was stabbed here multiple times. " Keisuke unbuttoned his shirt and led the girl's attention to where that psychopathic woman stabbed him. Curious, the girl slouched down to him, almost to where Keisuke could feel her skirt and thighs. " Impossible... There's so much blood and yet... " Her soft fingertips gliding through his naked skin is driving him wild. Keisuke's like a pervert in overdrive, but he can't show it because it'll lead to his instant death. Thinking to himself that he should just enjoy that ticklish feeling while it last. " Well? " " ...There's no trace of anything at all! " It didn't took her that long to reach the same conclusion as he did. Her face loosened, although for some reason, she's still on top him. " Hmph! Who knows, maybe you're just playing tricks on me! " Even though the truth lies clearly to her, she still doesn't want to believe Keisuke. Its because she has no basis for such explanations, and Keisuke appeared as a pervert, those thoughts were clouding her judgement. " Haaa... Whatever I say, you won't believe me, right? " Keisuke let out a sigh for he do not know how, or what else to say to prove his innocence. His gloomy expression didn't escape the girl's attention, and she suspiciously stared into his eyes again. Damn.... Its like she's seeing through my soul when she looks at me like that. " You know, you're a bit of a snob.. " Keisuke had not intended to say it, it had just slipped out. And now it was uttered, and he regretted it, as he sense the girl bristle. His words gave the girl a pause. " I most certainly am not!! " Keisuke reached out and took her arm. " I'm sorry. I didn't mean that seriously. You're not a snob... " The girl fell silent and look at Keisuke with trembling eyes. Groowwwl!! " Wha-- " " Shep! " The prowling of the beast in Keisuke's stomach broke their gazes in an instant, and the girl fell on his lap. That instant, Keisuke felt something soft, and his desires reacted on impulse. " Eh... Something is poking me... " " No No!! Don't look!! " She wanted to glance behind, to see whatever's poking her, but Keisuke alarmingly put his hands on her back and drew her closer. " Huh? Why..? N-No... Why are you even touching me?! Lecher!! " " Please, let me just calm down.. " Keisuke brought her so close they could feel each other's breath. Seeing her up close, Keisuke couldn't help the sudden burst of emotions inside him. " Ehh.. Ehh.. Ehhh!!! " The girl screamed her lungs out. Keisuke held her tightly, stroking her hair, as if he was touching someone familiar. Finally, everything connected in his mind. Time did rewind to that point, before their deaths. That someone gave him this second chance, a gift given to be used, and if he denies it, there is no turning back. And if he do nothing, the same events would just unfold again. " I promise to save you this time... " " ..... " Eventually, she quieted inside his possessive embrace. To the girl, Keisuke's words were ambiguous, but something inside her says that he isn't lying. Her head naturally found comfort on his chest for a reason she could not properly describe. In the end, she's just a very gentle girl in contrast to her usual self. "" ..... "" Pressing her tender warmth, and her delicious scent clung to his nose, Keisuke was definitely stimulated. " You seem like you know me... Have we met before? " " ....... " Tracing his voice in the depths of his moist throat, there is nothing. It felt distant and immediately, a new trouble arose in his mind. " It was so long ago you probably don't remember... " Keisuke instantly lied. To inform someone of their death, who would believe such things? Rather, he'll just arouse unwarranted suspicion-- Is what Keisuke deduced. But at that very instant, the girl's cheeks flushed with that high color, which told Keisuke that she was angry. " Hmph. " Standing up quickly, while brushing the dirt of her clothes, she walks towards the direction of her horse; who was ignored for quite some time now. Keisuke followed afterwards though it required him a tremendous amount of effort just to stand still. " Wait! Where are you going?! " He unexpectedly grabbed her hand out of surprise. " W-Why do you even care?? " Her face flustered while she tries to hide her embarrassment. As if predicting her weakness, Keisuke couldn't contain his mischievous grin. " Umm, please just answer. " " The town... " If I think about it, she's probably gonna take the same road towards that monster. And why is a monster as dangerous as that close to town? If your beginner forest spawns a monster lord, the game would be broken. As long as I could redirect her somewhat. " Oh, I haven't ate anything since yesterday.. Perhaps you have some food to spare? " " L-Let go of my hand first.. " She plead with a weak voice, refusing to look at Keisuke. " Only if you say yes. " " Y-Yes.. " After hearing her reply, Keisuke clasped his hands together and lowered his head to appease her. " Tsk. " She clicked her tongue in annoyance, but Keisuke didn't look. " I can't believe this. " " Please... " There was no hint of shame in his voice. Even if he have to throw away everything, Keisuke would do anything to save her. And that means shaming himself is nothing. " Ugh.. Gather some branches for firewood and I'll make some food. " " Yes ma'am! " Albeit reluctantly, she still agreed, so Keisuke slowly dragged his feet outside of the clearing to gather some firewood. " Anyhow, I should swiftly gather this firewood before that girl changes her mind. " * * * The girl prepared some dinner and the two of them started eating side by side on this dark log, although with a single meter distancing them away from each other. Now, Keisuke is silently watching her eat... In his hand is a bowl of soup, unknown soup that tasted wonderful, but he shudder thinking just what kind of meat is involved. " What are you looking at? " The girl gave Keisuke an odd look after realizing that he was staring. Keisuke paused while gazing at her, mesmerized by the way she handles her food. " Nothing... " Nothing, except for the fact that watching her eat was the most erotic act he's ever seen in his short life. Her lips rounded in a luscious pucker as she bit neatly into the fresh vegetable she pierced with her fork. Hallelujah!! " Cough!! Cough!! " Keisuke choked a little, unconsciously slurping his hot soup and swallowed. It was flaming hot, but his taste buds didn't care. He sat uncomfortably on the log, while his thoughts were filled with vegetables, and pinkish lips. " Don't jog the log, stupid... " " It's Keisuke, just to let you know.. " " Keisuke, idiot, pervert, liar, it means the same to me. " The girl mockingly replied, avoiding eye contact with Keisuke. Keisuke thoroughly enjoyed his food, giving him that very pleasant feeling that warmed his heart. But no matter how much he tried to sway his mind, his thoughts were reminded of those blistering moments before their deaths. I promise to prevent those from happening. Even if I have to drew cold blood myself. |

Chapter 8: Trouble Arises By the time they finished eating, full dark had almost fallen and a hazy moon stood above a bank of clouds to the east. The dark shape of a high bird passed across the face of the moon. Some night stars were already out, acting as bright beacons in the indigo sky. " Haaa.... " A quiet, taunting breath escaped Keisuke's mouth. After ingesting the food the girl prepared for him, he leaned his back against a tree. Away from the campfire. Away from the girl. His fingers throbbing, his head cramping, and his vision burning. Keisuke's sensibility was belied by the repeated tapping of his finger he rested on his knee. " ...What? " By chance, he felt something in his pocket. Intrigued, he reached to it; and he found his phone. Because of his previous state of panic, he didn't notice, but when he woke up stranded in this forest, both his wallet and smartphone were still in his pocket. Inside his wallet is his school identification card and what little bit of allowance he had left for this month supposedly. In this world, his items are considered otherworldly. " Just my luck... " Keisuke stared at his phone with spectral nostalgia. No reaction from the power button means the battery's dead. Although useless, he was glad to know that something still connects him from his world aside from his bloody uniform. Just from his previous actions, he knew the future could be changed. Am I strong enough to prevent her death?, he questioned himself. Brushing the dark thoughts aside, he remained positive, looking to find a future where both of them are alive. Keisuke closed his eyes and remembered.... a long time ago. His mind drifted into the distant past, which was filled with darkness and consequences. The cold disbelief. His denial to accept the reality. Only Keisuke knows the truth. In Keisuke's mind, his killer, although strikingly similar to his dead childhood friend, is an entirely different person. He refused to believe the facts handed out in front of him. For Keisuke, Reina is just an open chuunibyou that taught him the weirdest things that he could possibly imagine in his life. He was attracted to her, fascinated by her liveliness, and most importantly, he's fallen inlove. Each and everyday he was dragged around doing whatever, but it was fun. That's why no matter how much the two resemble each other, they cannot be the same person. Because for Keisuke, Reina is the last person he knew that would commit murder. And definitely not a brutal one at that. And now, he's deluding himself to this girl who resembles Reina. Keisuke was aware of the harsh reality, yet he could not stop the longing in his heart. No more than a convenient escape created by his longing. " What is that? " As his thoughts went adrift, the girl quietly approached him with a peculiar expression. She leaned over to his side and curiously points to the items that she hasn't seen or heard of in her life. Damn, she's really beautiful. Contemplating her beauty in his mind, Keisuke fought himself from staring at her. Viewing her beautiful features up close isn't really good for his heart. " Neh.. What is that? " " This one is called Id while this one is my smartphone.. " " I-d? Smarto-phone? What are those? " Her strong desire to learn is hindering the guard that she has set up for herself. This time, Keisuke felt two soft, yet close to flat things pressing against his arm. It was almost nonexistent, but he knew it's there, so he hurriedly pulled his arm away from her, even though it did felt great. " I'm sorry.. " " Stupid.. What are you apologizing for? " " Haa... " Keisuke couldn't help but blew a sigh. When he glance back to the girl, her expression remains unchanged. As a pettanko lover, her innocent bosom was more than a weapon of mass destruction for him. " This one is a communication device. Everybody has one from where I came from. It's dead right now so it won't do us any good, but we might be able to find a way to charge it back on later. " He carefully explained the details in regards to what a phone is to this clueless girl, even though a part of him is saying it's futile. " Dead? What do you mean dead? You can trap somebody in this small box? Is it a curse item after all? " Her eccentric gaze was replaced by one full of doubts. A reaction Keisuke was anticipating. " Ahahaha... It's not like that... " Keisuke chuckled at her ridiculousness. " Hmph. Stop it with the pitying look. " " ...Of course." Keisuke answered with a big smile, but it just made her act more displeased. Taking a deep breath, she inquired Keisuke about his Id, returning that curious look on her face. " What about this blunt knife? These engravings are quite puzzling... Its the first time I've seen such complex writing... " " ...It's my language. " " You got your head cut off at one point? " " ...It hurts to be honest. " That last comment, with wry humor, caused her to smile back to Keisuke. She arched and twisted away from him, refusal stamped on her expression. " Don't misunderstand. " Her evasion almost caused an awkward collision of their heads. Her cheeks went scarlet, reminding Keisuke of someone important. " Too close. " His hand is floating in the air, stopped just in the nick of time before he held her beautiful face. Embarrassed, he wished for time to rewind in the most silliest way. " What now? " She turned back to face Keisuke, far from being appeased, and her mouth curved to a childish pout. " It's nothing really. Don't mind me.. " " Hmmm. " A perplexed smile touched her lips, her gaze were directed at his items. Keisuke noticed this, and promptly cooked up a scheme. " If you tell me your name, I'll give it to you. " " ...Huh? " " Your name... " " ...Eririnuesha Lye Sylvant. " She said innocently, seemingly unperturbed by his hidden intentions. So to keep his end of the bargain, he gave both of the items to her. The girl grumpily accepted it from his hands, but happily slid them inside her clothes. What a long name... It even sounds royalty... Although a young girl like her with no companion to protect her negates his thoughts. " Can I shorten it to Erin instead? " " Mhm. " She nod her in agreement, her expression was neutral. Maybe in this world, their not so picky regarding such matters. Keisuke was glad, definitely glad to at least know her name. " Can I asked Erin another question? " " ...What is it? " " Do you have a map? " " ...A map? What do you need it for? " She gave him a look as though she wanted to argue, so he replied back with utmost politeness. " I wanted to confirm something.. If that's okay.. " " Tsk. " Although displeased, she still took the effort to stand up, and walked back to her horse. At the very least, her display of antagonism from before was gone, and she had begun to smile. Keisuke's already deduced that this is a parallel world, nonetheless, he still wanted to confirm. " Here you go! I'm the one who made that, so it's the probably the best that you could find around here. " Ambling back with a proud face, she handed Keisuke an antique like piece of paper rolled over thinly. Curiously opening the map--- " ---As expected... " The map is drawn in a sketch, with doodles of mountain, trees, and what seemed to be houses. This is what she calls a map? Keisuke was about to burst in laughter when he suddenly noticed the words written on her map. It's not similar to his language at all. How could they converse if they're speaking two entirely different languages? Once more, another mystery was added to his booklet. " Erin, what is the name of this world again? " " ...Huh? You don't even know? It's Aestrea. A-E-S-T-R-E-A. Idiot, you don't even know the simplest of things? " Although Keisuke said it as a joke, he didn't expect her to answer so seriously. He stole a glance back at her, and her face really doesn't show a hint of lying. She's just honestly saying what she's been taught. " Then can you please point me to the direction of the town? " " Ahaha... Umm, Let me see... " She crouched on her knees and started jiggling, her eyes are darting around the area. Just as if an ice was pouring down on her back. There was silence, except for the small crackle of the fire. " Umm, you don't know? " " !! " That question imparted her face of warmth, and she was almost startled. So she doesn't know then... How troublesome. Keisuke was instantly distressed, and an endless stream of question floated inside his head. Seeing the frozen look on the girl's face, Keisuke began to laugh. " Ahaha... Just tell me what you know.. " " ....D-Directly to the west is the Forest of Souls, and you could reach Saphir in a matter of days. It's also the only the path available for me to take if I want to bring my luggage and my horse with me. That's what I was told. " She smiled as soon as she finished, but Keisuke didn't return the smile, only leveled a cool, speculative stare at her. That moment, she understood. That Keisuke was suspicious of her. Although on where those suspicions are directed at, she doesn't know. " Is there a roundabout way? " " Why so? " She blinked and stared at him in confusion, not understanding his reason. " Just for backup... " " None that I know of... " It was quick, but her face stiffened, and she answered with lies. For an observant person like Keisuke, that's all he needed to know to figure out the truth behind her words. " Please tell me!! " Gripping her arm tightly, Keisuke roared a question. It wasn't intentional of course. His accumulated stress, and the feverish feeling he's having led him to that behavior. " It...hurts...Let go... " Whoo-peesh!! She flung her arm forward, whipping it across his face. The noise and sensation Keisuke felt from her hand was enough to wake him up in his delusion. His voice was low and remorseful when he withdrew. " I didn't mean to.. " Keisuke's head was bent so that she couldn't even see his face. " Just when I decided to trust you... Humans can't be trusted after all! " Reddening in outrage, the girl whirled away from him, and cast a bottle of liquid in the dark lake. It was an antidote that she was supposed to give to Keisuke. She drugged his food for self defense. As soon as she showed her back to Keisuke, his eyes had begun to water up; the effects of the poison finally kicked in. Erin's teary face filled his chronic vision before his face rushed towards the dirt and body collapse on the ground. Aware that his consciousness is rapidly drifting away, Keisuke bitched and moaned nonstop, yet not even his voice could escape his own mouth. * * * Erin knew that what she did was not right, and that her actions had been wrong and hurtful. She tired hard to do the right thing-- she agonized her actions all too late-- but he had gone and accused her of something really nasty which she did not deserve. The poison was made from a combination of herbs and flowers that will induce drowsiness to whoever will be close enough to smell it directly. It is a type of perfume. Adding a trickle of this poison to Keisuke's portion, it turned out to be really effective. It's been a while since she had her last bath, so Erin didn't waste such a perfect opportunity. Erin hurriedly set her things aside and took her clothes off to enjoy the pool of water in front of her. Enduring the cold sting, she started to dip her sleek naked body while stealing some glancing at Keisuke. Once her skin was settled at the water's temperature, she felt relieved as nothing beats a nice and relaxing bath after a such a long and hard journey. Volius was stashed away in the backpack for he always comments on useless things; notably her breast size. [ Is something bothering you? ] Levasti asked. The very fact that Erin was pacing told her that something was bothering her. Erin sank below the water surface, hiding her cheeks that were flushed in embarrassment. Keisuke's abruptness had taken her off guard. [ It's nothing. ] [ For heaven's sake. Don't tell me you're interested in that boy? ] Coming face to face with Keisuke without any warning and being held inside his fierce possessiveness, Erin was definitely startled. It made her heart thump in excitement and her mind drift into a sea of clouds. Until today, she had never paid that much attention to the opposite sex. [ It wasn't like that. I was just thinking about what he said. ] [ Deceits! ] Levasti said in immediate protest. [ Do not be fooled by his colorful words. ] [ Really? ] Erin murmured skeptically. [ I do agree that he's suspicious, but something about his tone killed my doubts. ] Nothing near a declaration of love, but Keisuke's words carried a special warmth. So vague, so blurred. She struggled to clarify them. [ Well, he's a pervert first and foremost. ] [ That, we could agree on without a doubt. ] Erin and Levasti continued their chat underneath the dark sky. Keisuke remained collapse on the dirt, motionless. [ Girl's and their breast problems... Why can they not understand that smaller is better? ] Volius rude remarked caused him to be stashed deeper inside Erin's belongings. |

Chapter 9: Chase her!! The light shone through fickle cloud shadows over the lake. When Keisuke came to his senses, it was already high noon. Despite the warm sun, he had begun to shiver. Something felt funny on his chest, so his hand reached for it, and found a bowl of food with a piece of paper, written a note; a language he could not read. To you there, Well, if you really wanted to know. You could trek the mountain top to the south, and from there you could travel west towards the town. But I don't recommend, a human's sense of direction would go crazy in that labyrinth. Those are the contents of the letter that Erin left him behind. Information about the route that he asked for last night. However for Keisuke, there is no way for him to know the contents of this note. Keisuke looked around, his consciousness straining through the sunlight, grasping for details. Erin's missing, her campfire clean, and her luggage gone. Somehow, he gripped his hand into a sudden fright, crumbling the piece of paper in his hand. " Judging by the placing of the sun, it would be past high noon.. If I leave now, will I be able to chase her? No, I will reach her. There is no time to mule... " Keisuke sprang to his feet, indulge himself into the lake water and ate the bowl of food that Erin left him behind. Keisuke deduced that he was poisoned, yet he still ate the food that she provided for him. The dosage of the poison was low, that's why it took time to kick in. The type of poison that slowly knocked his consciousness away. She had done nothing wrong. Keisuke understood that his actions brought upon those results. " And I promised that I will change her fate this time. But without me as a distraction gone, maybe she could run away by herself? She's clearly capable of doing that. No, she's stubborn enough to fight that monster toe to toe. And with the monster's agility, it would be hard for her to flee. " As if finding his resolve, Keisuke clench his fist and look upward to the skies. If he sprint now, there might be a chance for him to reach her first, yet there's no way for him to know on what direction she took. West... But where is to the west? In this place surrounded by trees, the view hardly changes Keisuke searched the vicinity for footsteps. Footsteps of a horse. Running here and there, fear clouding his thoughts, but he persist. However, it was only when the sun was falling towards the evening that he's traced some. The vision was faint, but he remembered the scenery he passed through before his death. Keisuke started running on that direction, hoping to stopped her in her track. " Haa... Haa... " For he had been running all day, he was weary and dread is beginning to cover his leg muscle. He felt cramps forming and a surge of horror. Nonetheless, he continued tracing the steps on where she could be. Slowing from a fast run, gradually catching his breath, he sought a place to rest, where he was not likely to be disturbed. Finally, Keisuke came across the area covered in Afule. As if fate is forcing him to picked one, he followed his intuition, and plucked a single white flower that resembles a lily. Admiring it's beauty for a few minutes, Keisuke once again, darted forward in chase of Erin. He slid the flower in his pocket, crumbling some of it's petals on the ground. The day dragged on; the sun moved slowly away, and at last, it began to grow dark. The same misty fog that he came across to last time, hindered his view. All of a sudden, he heard a noise; the twangy sound of a bowstring after it fires an arrow. Keisuke lowered his head and vaulted away from his position, but something caught his feet, resulting on a fall. " Aghhh!! " Keisuke let a whimpering cry as his body groans in pain. That fall just now hurt him more than he expected. Largely guided by his instincts and his luck, Keisuke avoided death. The arrow that was aimed at his head dissipates in the darkness. In an instant, a slim shadow swiftly emerge from the shades, and swung a knife down to Keisuke! Alarmed, Keisuke desperately rolled to the side, barely avoiding the blade by a hair's breadth. While crawling away facing the entity clad in dark robes, Keisuke felt a trinket of blood and a sharp pain, grazing his left cheek. Drip.. Drip.. As soon as his blood stained the dirt, the figure rushes towards him. Her beautiful golden hair flutter in the air as she swung her knife down mercilessly. " Die! " Hearing a familiar voice, Keisuke was even more perplexed, but he braced himself and fought the mysterious figure. Using his position, Keisuke kicked upward, hitting the figure's wrist, and using his other feet to sweep the figure down. Unbalance, the figure fell towards Keisuke. Clenching his fist, he swung hard towards the figure's face! Pwack!!-- the figure smashed backwards and bounced on the dirt, face first. The knife she was holding flew and landed stuck on a root near his position. " Holy... What in the world is going on here... " Keisuke murmured, cold sweat blotted on his forehead. The figure clad in dark robes lay on the ground still. Keisuke grab a hold of the knife, and jerked himself up, still confused at what's going on. Only one thing is clear in his mind, This person tried to kill me. He tottered towards the figure and lowered to his knee, revealing her face concealed by her giant hood. " What.... " Keisuke didn't know her. Her skin was white and her hair was blonde, similar to Erin's. She could been anywhere near sixteen and twenty years old. She boast the same pointed ears like Erin, although her eyes are a mesmerizing shade of dusk. Though not as vibrantly beautiful as Erin, she's still a beauty of her own. Her face twisting in pain, but Keisuke isn't so nice. Keisuke stabbed the girl's thigh, causing her to involuntary vomit blood. " Haaa...!! " She screamed in pain, her eyes widened in horror. Keisuke's sudden attack made her grimace. " Why did you try to kill me? " " ...... " There was a brief silence, and the girl did nothing but tighten her lips. Her response annoyed Keisuke, forcing his hand to whipped her across the face. Ughaa..!!, Her eyebrow ripped, and her face further twisted in agony. " I'm in a hurry... If you don't talk, I won't have any more use for you. " Keisuke smiled but his words meant real. To the girl who witnessed such a scary smile, she knew that if she kept her mouth shut, it would lead to her death. However, there is a reason as to why she couldn't move her lips. " Kill me!! " She cried dismayed, hoping that an innocent cry of a girl would at least touched his heart. Her fingers slowly moving towards the dagger she concealed in her clothes. But Keisuke's response was not what she expected. " Oh, I will.. " " Nghn!!! " That very instant, Keisuke pulled the knife stuck on her thigh, and stabbed her in the chest. She clung to Keisuke, as the knife slowly sink into her flesh. Tears rained from her eyes as she spent her last remaining strength fighting her powerlessness. Pushing the knife deeper and twisting the blade inside, the girl could do nothing but wriggle in pain. Her own blood that gurgled out of her mouth covered her face, and sticky white mucus had gummed to it. Looking on the girl who has wet herself and a knife plunged in her chest, Keisuke felt no remorse at her death. You may go as far as to call me a heartless son of a bitch, but taking risk is not my thing. Is what Keisuke wanted to say, but something about her cry made him look away and fear found him. He felt a helpless sinking of the heart for reasons that eluded his humanity. He wondered who had turned an innocent looking girl to that of a killer. I was ruthless I know. But the fate of that foolish girl is at stake, and whatever must be done, I must do it without hesitation. A slight delay of movements caused by naivety could end my life here.. Whatever reasons I might have, there's no justified way of killing, but this twisted world opened my eyes. Elves, humans, monsters, there is no difference. Shock and hopelessness filled the girl's vacant eyes. Keisuke abruptly closed her eyes and dashed forward once more, away from that bloody excrement. " Shit!! " Soaring through the passage of trees, Keisuke's blood-stained hands left a trail of blood. Thanks to the full moon illuminating the dark forest, its unexpectedly bright. " Huh? " Keisuke abruptly turned to the sound of running feet on his right side. What appeared on that misty fog was a horse.. Erin's horse in particular. Accompanying it are drops of liquid that stained the ground crimson. Immediately, he worriedly checked the horse for wounds, yet there is none. " This can only mean... " Even though he's bewildered and confused, that reaction was replaced by a growing anxiety that is forming in his chest. For a moment, he could not control his voice to speak, filled with grief and terror, for clearly there is but an ounce of hope left. Pain wretched his heart. However, Keisuke steeled his heart and resumed his jog to where the horse came to be. Except for the lazy wallowing of the fog, nothing moved and as far as he could tell, no watcher waited in either the scud or shadows. That silence hit Keisuke even further as the acrid stench of danger grew fouler with every step. Keisuke stepped ahead, staying in the shadows, until two figures came into view, hovering in the thick mist. As he drew closer, Keisuke saw the very same monster that killed them, choking Erin, lifting her legs off the ground. There was helplessness in her eyes, her mouth gasping for air, her feet clumping together. No words needed to be said and Keisuke immediately rushed to help her. " Hraaaaa!!! " Tackling the monster with his running momentum, it's grip towards Erin was released, but such a puny attack did no damage. It's as if his shoulders rammed onto a brick wall. " Cough... " Erin landed on her butt and her lungs hurriedly searched for air. The side of her face was bruised, a line of dried blood where the skin on her cheek had been split. " Erin! Run away!! " " Ehhh--- " " Don't look back, hurry!! " Keisuke clenched his fist and swung hard, while he shout directions at Eryn. His fist slammed against the monster's thick muscle and hair, but no reaction showed on it's face. " Look at me! I'm delicious!! " With each punch, fresh blood splashed on the dirt. Keisuke's blood to be exact. He swung his fist multiple times to grab the monster's attention, not paying any heed to his broken fists. Erin regained her composure, and leap backwards away in a distance, where not even Keisuke's eyes could see a glimpse of her shadow. He felt relieved right away. Even if I die a gruesome death, as long as she's safe... The monster's mouth turned into an upward grin, as it slowly turned it's head and looked sideways at Keisuke. As if it was done playing around, the monster catches his right fist that he forcefully slug about. " Ngaaa..... " With a simple mushed from it's muscular grip, Keisuke's fist was completely shattered. Even with the intense pain, Keisuke prevented despair from leaving his mouth by crunching on his own lips. He bit so hard that he's basically chewing on his own skin. However, that was just the beginning for Keisuke. In a split second, the monster twisted his arm and pulled it away, completely shaving his right arm from his shoulder. Keisuke's eyes widened, his lower lip swollen and teeth marks carved underneath. The only choice left for Keisuke was to cry inside his thoughts. If that fool hears me scream, there might be chance of her returning to this hell and attempt to saved me. The monster threw his arm back and snickered, while watching his face crumble in unbashed horror. The blood spraying from his lost arm splattered to his face, into his eyes, and down to his chest. The churning, frigid pain of his lost arm is driving his thoughts to insanity! Keisuke sank to his knees, while trying to prevent any more blood from pouring. The monster's eyes glinted in mischief, raising it's claws upward in the air, warning him of his inevitable death. Keisuke pulled himself to his feet, doubled over, heaving, soaked in his own blood. " .......Shit... " Keisuke pushed his legs and fought his fear, jumping sideways away from the monster. Air left his lungs and a groan escaped his mouth, as he crashed horribly on the rooted ground. His lungs are screaming, gasping for air between retches of blood. The foul taste of iron filled his dry mouth. The monster approached Keisuke in slow steps, waiting for him to cry in anguish. I really am gonna die.. But with this, I fulfilled my promise, right? I can only hope that my sacrifice was enough for her to gain some distance away from this demon. In the midst of despair, Keisuke wished for Erin's safety. Hurting from head to foot with shock and fright, winded, his heart banging against his ribs. " Oh lord, who reigned the skies, show your retribution and strike thy enemies, Thunder!! " All of a sudden, multiple thunderbolts rained from the sky, continuously attacking the unsuspecting enemy. To Keisuke's vision, it was a majestic sight. " Kah... " With each gasp for air comes blood. Blood that was shot from his innards, and pump out by his mouth. Keisuke's mind is tripping into the dark abyss of death. Slipping in and out of consciousness. His head ache as if it was split asunder. And then, Keisuke heard a voice. The voice of an angel. Her voice was trembling. " .....What did you come here for? " " ....Fool..r.un... " She held his head up and gave him a lap pillow, while she presses both of her arms on his chest, transferring her warmth to his body. Is this healing magic? Slowly, the wound on his right shoulder rapidly closes, spilling it's last trickle of blood. " Erin....you..have..to..run.. " Keisuke lifted his hand to her cheek, gently brushing the riddle of moisture at the corner of her eye. However with his bloody hands, he only painted his own gore on her cheeks, sullying her lovely image. " I just can't leave you here... " Erin tightly held Keisuke's hand with hers, while gentle cries of sorrow graced her cheek, rinsing her face painted with his gore. " I...promised...this..time..I'll...sa.ve..you.. " " Fool... Even when I poisoned you.. " " Ahaha.... If it's the only way to taste your cooking, then I have no regrets... Haaa... Erin... " Keisuke chuckled, but his laughter came with blood. Pain had already eroded his mind from clearly thinking right. With each cough, fresh blood comes gushing forth. Even though his wound was healed and his body relieved of pain, it's not enough to fully eased him of his suffering. For Keisuke, his death is only a matter of time. " It's okay... It will go away soon... " " Erin... I apologize... for last night... I didnt... " " Stop saying such foolish things.. Just concentrate on resting.. " Pulling energy from hell, Keisuke moved his finger. Reaching to his pocket, he pulled out the crumbled flower. Bending his left arm at his elbow, he stretched out to slid it to her ear. " There... Hehe... Pretty. " " Eh... " Keisuke's arm slouched on the ground afterwards.. His eyes shut with relief. With his last grip to reality leaving him, blackness came, and death claimed him. " No... Say something!!! Acting so cool even though you're just a pervert... Keisuke!!! " Erin held him tightly, embracing his body soaked in warm blood. But reality didn't even give her time to mourn. A snort, a sound of dismissal, came through the area where those huge thunderbolts landed. When the smoke thinned, the monster reveals itself, missing a horn. Erin remained still, facing the sound, while her face slowly distorts to that of despair. The monster swiftly dashes towards her, lifting it's claws in the air as it runs. In that space confined by despair, a loud thud was heard, followed by a thick splashing of blood. * * * Keisuke was once again plunged into oblivion... Falling endlessly in that hollow shaft where his cries echoed, and his pleas ignored. Nineteen years of his life flashed in that dark pit and something... something important shattered. " Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-------------What? " A voice wailing in terror brought him back to his senses. As he settled down, what filled his view was a girl's dead body, and his hands stained with the girl's blood. |

Chapter 10: The Dye is Cast Golden haired swirled, shimmered, as she spasmed from the wound that Keisuke gave her. She clung to Keisuke with a fierce grip, tightening, fighting back the pain, as blood gurgles out of her mouth. Her eyes were open, but not yet vacant. Keisuke felt the warm liquid flooding his clothes; which is a mixture of blood, pee, and tears. She dropped backwards, collapsing toward a needed rest. " What the hell.. " Keisuke swallowed hard, finding his throat instantly dry. When her scream rang into his musings, what filled his view was a corpse. It was the corpse of the woman whom he killed before he rushed to help Erin. Freshly killed by him once more, Keisuke returned as if he came back from a save point. " I came back? " Keisuke finally came to the realization. That he died three times now. His right arm did not regrew, it was always there. " Does this mean... Nothing will change if I keep dying? " Keisuke questioned himself, he was in a different mood from any that he previously possessed. His eyes and expression are wrenched in terror. In his desolation, he continued to harbor a small but stubborn hope that everything will finally come to an end. His heart swells, bothered by a question he knew the answer of, yet refuses to believe himself. Keisuke lowered his gaze at the corpse's wound. He saw the knife he struck on her chest to kill her. The tool he used to murder. He stared at the knife motionless, not moving a muscle. And then, as if something took a hold of him, he reached towards the knife, pulling it out with both hands. " Haa... Haa... Haa... " Taking deep breaths, Keisuke held the knife backwards, with the tip of the knife leveled at his throat. Cold drop of sweat flowed down on the blade, and an eerie whisper murmured softly in his ears. It was his newfound fear of death. Keisuke underestimated that word until now. One, two, three--- With his sanity reaching it's limit, he pushed the blade forward, ending his life. His death was not instant, and phantom pain tormented his collar. He bled to death, his body wriggling, spraying fountains of blood because of his own foolishness. However, after a few seconds, Keisuke was not dead. His body was still intact. Going through the same cycle, his eyelids sprang open and the same view of death unraveled in his eyes. " What the... Holy.. I really am alive.. " Death is all over the girl and in the mottled pattern of her battered torso is a knife, her eyes are hollow. Keisuke took one of the girl's hands with both of his, praying silently for her continuous suffering. There is no washing away the things that he had done. In a space of a single day, he had murdered her thrice and nobody else but him will know his diabolical actions. For some reason, he is trap in a loop of death, where the only thing he needed to do in order to advance was to kill. Simple yet apprehensive. Keisuke turned away as vomit exploded from his mouth. The pain from the sudden realization is so intense, he doubled over, clutching his stomach. " Erin... " Keisuke felt vulnerable and furious at himself for wasting time on such needless worries. He trudged on, angry with the elements which had turned so suddenly against him. The hedges and trees rustled menacingly in the rising wind, which whipped strands of hair pasted on his forehead. From his recent death, Erin would be confronting the monster by this time already. And the results of her foolish actions would lead to her death if Keisuke did not intervened. That's why hopeless it might be, Keisuke forced himself forward to find her. " It should be around here.. " Scurrying footsteps nearing with every second, Keisuke waited for the horse to show up. Just exactly what happened in his previous death, the horse appeared, carrying Erin's backpack. " There there buddy... " Quickly after calming the horse, Keisuke hurriedly made a mess of Erin's belongings. Throwing any other kind of items that did not suit his needs. Finally, he reached to the very same luxurious dagger in his memory, hidden underneath a huge pile of clothes. However, it's different from last time. When Keisuke unsheathed the dagger, a man's voice spoke through his head. [ You have one hell of a memory there human. Just because of that, I'll trust you! My name is Volius, the spirit who governs fire; the right hand of the Goddess that disintegrates all darkness. Recite my name and my power shall be yours!! ] " Who? " [ Screw it, just announce my name already! My master's in danger fool! ] " It doesn't matter who it is. Even if this is the devil, I would gladly offer my soul just to protect her. Whoever you are, come forth! " As if he was summoning forth a demon from hell, Keisuke shouted at the top of his lungs. " Volius!!! " A blade of light connecting to the dagger appeared, expanding it's length to a total of two meters. Not just that, Keisuke's basic parameters had taken a leap. A sudden surge of energy is swelling up inside him, a power that is squeezing him dry. What the hell just transpired, Keisuke doesn't know. All he knows is that he finally acquired the power to protect Erin. Rushing forth and lighting the path with his fiery blade, Keisuke sought Erin. There was silence except for the loud heartbeat in his chest. With his heightened agility, it took no more than a moment to reached the place he looked for. Keisuke gazed upon her same helpless position; fighting off the monster's grip, and her lungs gasping for oxygen. " .....Kn...gh.. " Keisuke didn't utter a word, only his body move instantaneously. Swiftly piercing the unsuspecting monster from behind, he spun his body in a circular motion, drawing a half crescent moon! The monster was completely shaved in half, with the blade peeling off it's flesh like butter. " Cough.. " Keisuke immediately helped the heaving Erin on the ground. Remembering his past carelessness, Keisuke took her hand in his, distancing her away from danger. His eyes kept a keen observation on the monster's recuperative abilities. " Erin, are you okay? " " ... Why? Why are you here? And why is Volius?? " Trying to look more composed, Erin murmured question after question. She gazed up into his eyes, secretly flooded with joy, as she listened to the words she'd given up hope of hearing. Much more, it came from someone that she loathed so much she poisoned his food. But instead of melting into his arms, as every instinct urged her to, she gave him a very ungrateful-like dig on the ribs. " Ow... " Keisuke accepted her jab that barely had any strength in it, lowering his head in pain as he pretended to get hurt. " Hmph. Don't expect any thanks from me. " Keisuke raised his head to gazed upon her flushed damp face. Eryn scowled, but he took the wind out of her sails with the idiotic smile he employed all the time. For the grieving Keisuke, her face, smiling or not, was more than a bliss that he could possibly wish for. He was truly glad to see her once more. The worst horror of his death was not the pain and fear that he suffered, not the blood, not his lost limbs. The pain and fear were comparatively brief, considering what he was gone through so far. The worst horror for Keisuke was to lose her. " Nevermind about that, can we beat it or do we have to run? " Keisuke asked seriously, his words carried a reliable wind. Seeing his face, Erin smiled bitterly but quickly replied at the same time. " Each time it regenerates, it uses an absurdly amount of mana. But that supply halted moments ago, although I do not why, we should use this chance to eliminate it entirely. " " Meaning? " [ That's where I come from!! Pierced it once more and my fire would dispose of that monster once and for all. ] Volius suddenly interrupted their conversation. " Is this telepathy? " As soon as Keisuke frowned to inquire the talking weapon, the monster finished regenerating. He noticed it, and immediately, his body took a stance, holding the blade sideways. From far away, the monster is watching him with a look of surprise and bewilderment. It's eyes is full of caution, like it couldn't understand how Keisuke's mysterious power came to be. " Erin, just leave this to me for now. " " I'll support you then. " With no time to waste, Keisuke lunged himself towards the monster. At the same time, Erin stood her ground and mumbled an incantation; a unique aura starts to spread around her. Keisuke had no experience with the blade nor did he do kendo back in high school, but his instincts alone is enough to end this monstrosity. He dashed towards the monster and performed a wide swing. Swoong!, But the monster catches his beginner swipe quite easily. With both of his arms gripping the blade, Keisuke slashed his blade upward, then downward, and cleaved upward again. His relentless assault broke the monster's guard and launch it up in the air. With this chance, Erin unleashes her spell. " Frost breath! " Frigid ice rapidly crawled on the ground, trailing it's target that was driven upward. Swack!, The monster's feet were trapped in ice as soon as it landed on the ground. " Keisuke!! " " On it!! " As if they were in sync, Keisuke already moved before Erin could even tell him to. The monster greeted Keisuke with an upward stroke, but the ice binding it's leg is firm and solid, making it easy for him to avoid. Keisuke inclined his body slightly downward and use that chance to strike Volius on it's muscular torso. The blade entered it's flesh, igniting the flames from within. " Volius ignite it!! " [ Ohhh!! ] " Kiiiiaaa!!! " As it screams it's death throes, the monster's body was burned into ashes. Their battle was over in an instant. Keisuke's intense struggle to defeat his arch nemesis finally came to an end. " Is it... dead? Haha... " After feeling relieved, his senses returned to normal and the adrenaline that was keeping him standing reaches it's breaking point. His grip towards the blade was released and he can only see the dirt rushing towards him as he collapse on the ground. But instead of the dirt, something warm and cuddly caught him inside it's slender arms. " Troublesome idiot... " Keisuke heard the voice of an angel. Heard because he was too tired to look up. In the depths of his memory, there is only one being who owns such a voice. " Erin? " " Yes? " " I'm glad... " Keisuke expressed his stirring happiness by embracing the figure that had supported him. " Stupid!! Don't get too excited!! I'll roast you!! I'll roast you alive!! " Erin was teeming with violence, her temper on the brink of explosion. Although her reaction and words are just mere preface. Warmth swept through her, arousal flowing through her veins, prickling sweetly in hidden places. She would like to actually protest, but couldn't quite manage it. " Finally, this time... I succeeded... " Keisuke murmured softly into the pale, fragrant curve of her neck, his arms are tightening up around her. Erin found herself cradled in Keisuke's arms, melting to his firm yet tender pressure. " Keisuke, I owe you an apology... " Erin was baffled at his words, and even more so by the intensity of his embrace, but her intuition told her to trust him. The emotion on his face, the sincerity in his eyes, all of it was undeniable. He did nothing to hurt her, even when there's so many chances for him to do so. He came for her, even though there's no reason for him to do so. " No, everything was because of my own weakness... I promise, no matter what happens, I'll protect you. " However, Keisuke's monkey behavior was immediately put a halt by Erin's sudden shivering. She freed herself from his embrace, proudly confronting the mysterious figure that appeared in front of them. " Lady Eririn, have you been faring well? " His hollowed voice echoed from within the trees, releasing his malicious intent, smothering them both in his miasma. |

Chapter 11: Bond It is a man of short stature and grayish wavy hair, with similar pointed ears like Erin. He emits an aura so serious, Keisuke wouldn't even dare cross paths with him. The oppressive air coming from the man is making it hard for them to breath. Keisuke knew that no matter how many lives he got, it will never be enough with this man. Whoever this guy, I'm sure I'm not gonna like him... , Keisuke surmised immediately. Eryn stared at the man with a frightened expression. Staring fixedly without blinking for a surprisingly long duration of time, carefully watching the man's movements. But the man didn't move, didn't do anything but keep his distance. It seemed that questions filled the air between them as if they had been written in invisible ink. All was quiet, until Erin caught her voice to speak. " Galvin, are you the one after my life? " Erin felt her heart stop as she wait for the man's reply. " Surely you jest milady, I'm a mere servant following orders. " The man replied in a joking manner, lifting his shoulders in a shrug and his mouth twisted sardonically. After hearing the man's reply, a sigh slid upward from her lungs. Erin considers the man her friend, a friend she treasured dearly. For that friend to be out here in the woods chasing her life, she felt mortified. Nonetheless, his joking manner had ease her heart even by just a little. From their conversation and appearance, I would say their of the same race, so what is this air of hostility that I'm feeling right now?, Keisuke thought to himself, confused at their conversation. " Then what is Galvin--- " And what will you do after this? You knew nothing of the life outside our jurisdictions!! Killing you here would be mercy. " Regarding it with amusement, the man's eyes narrowed, saying that he is serious with his words. " Bullshit. " Keisuke, who's silently listening to the man talk nonsense couldn't contain the anger swelling in his chest. He knew nothing about Erin and the problems surrounding her, that's a fact. Nevertheless, to kill someone just because of not knowing? Blasphemy! Maybe there's a deep reason behind all of these, yet none of those matters to Keisuke. He's but an outsider in this world. They can only blame the person who brought him here for the disasters that he's about to bring. " And who might you be? " The man turned to face Keisuke; who's still unsteady on his feet. Although the question was asked in a light vein, the man's gray eyes were alert. Steeling his already tense body, Keisuke approached the man, clenching his right hand into fist. " I'm nobody. I knew nothing about your problems.. All I know is that your words make me sick! " " Fancy words coming from someone who killed Elena. Hahaha... You're one twisted human, aren't you? " Erin froze after hearing Elena's demise. It was a temptation to sugarcoat the truth, but Erin still cared for Elena's well being. " Wait... Elena's dead? " She asked in a voice that almost " Yes, killed by this very human. " Hearing the man's words, Erin shot Keisuke a sharp look, her emerald eyes narrowing. Her stern expression is waiting for him to clear her doubts. She really wanted to trust him this time. A heavy silence fell between them, and Erin prayed that it was not the truth. Keisuke paused before answering, heeling backwards to face Erin. " It was sudden... " Reaching to her hand with an apologetic face, his hand was shoved away. " Get away from me!! " Erin shouted her lungs, her voice packed with anger unforeseen. Keisuke could do nothing but backed away from the the girl brimming with hatred. Putrid hatred against him. Erin could scarcely think above the blood rushing in her ears and the pain of losing a friend. " I understand... " Keisuke clenched his fist harder, exacting a sensation that was neither pleasure or pain. A smile curved the man's mouth. He felt remarkable happiness watching Keisuke's reaction. " Well then... I've changed my mind. If lady Eririn disguised herself as a human, then I'll pretend I never saw you today. " His words lightened Erin up, but her burning hatred for Keisuke still remains. " ... You'll help me that far? " " Of course milady. Just wear this ring and you'll see the difference. " As the man familiarly handed Erin a ring, he gave Keisuke a mischievous grin, his eyes were bright with amusement. That glow of humor imparted Keisuke of warmth and right away, he rushed to grasp Erin. However, she already inserted the ring on her left index finger before Keisuke could even take a couple of steps. Afterwards, blinding light took their sights away, causing him to cover his eyes instinctively. When the flash of light ended, there was a remarkable change in Erin's appearance. Her shimmering golden hair was reduced to a chestnut brown, and her mystic pointed ears shrank and rounded like Keisuke's. The man chuckled, with a genuine amusement that didn't often occur. " Hahaha... Marvelous. You look magnificent milady. " " Screw it!! What else did that ring do to her?! " Straining for details, Keisuke hurried towards the chuckling man, his inexpressive face contorted in fury, white teeth gleaming as he gritted his teeth. Clutching the man's expensive clothes, Keisuke released punch after punch. The man didn't even try to evade and just conceitedly accepted all of his attacks head on. " An attack without magic reinforcement won't even tickle me. " Meanwhile Erin, who's still bewildered at her sudden change finally snap back to reality. The first thing she saw was Keisuke beating up her friend. To her, it was a one sided beaten up. The man wasn't even fighting back after all. Stepping in between the frenzied Keisuke and the man, Erin gazed at Keisuke in scorn. " Stop already! " " But... I only... " " Begone from my sight!! " Erin's words were harsh and strike Keisuke deep, but he stood his ground. " Hate me all you want but I'm not leaving you alone in this dreadful place... " " Dreadful--- Keisuke swept her off the ground, ignoring her kicking and fighting. " Let go!! " " Bear with me... " Keisuke's heart begun to hammer in alarm. He wanted to get out of that place before that mysterious man changes his playful demeanor. " What an interesting human. " The man observed in a snob tone, as he watched Keisuke's back disappear in the darkness. Whilst showing a playful attitude, he was able to avert their attention away from him. He let them go not because of the ring, but because he got what he wanted. Volius; who was lying on the unattended on the ground has now transferred custodians to his. * * * The night was turning much colder, and Keisuke guessed there would be frost by dawn. The moon, full and high, threw such a light that every tree limb cast a blue shadow. Only the brightest stars shone out against the indigo sky. After getting a comparable amount of distance away from that mysterious man, Keisuke laid the protesting Erin down. Her emerald eyes are squinted sharply and so are words. " Here to satisfy your lust now? Hah! I should have known! That's all you ever wanted from me! You even killed my friend! Murderer!! " " You wound me. " Keisuke was light headed with nerves and irritation. He's been listening to Erin's nonstop protest for hours. Patience, he quietly told himself. As the tune of silence drew, Keisuke could not think of anything to say to her. There was so much for him to think about. Why would people of the same race is out to take her life? Have she done something unforgivable or was she merely cast away? "" ..... "" Keisuke passed a hand over his forehead, and Erin realized that his fingers were trembling. His complexion was pale and his eyes reddened, as if he'd had no sleep. He looked ill to her, as a matter of fact. Going through the cycle of death four times, three of which are the most brutal deaths one could possibly imagine, Keisuke is abnormal in this regard. What's worst, he woke up from death twice with him killing another person, how can a regular boy keep his sanity in those situations? He's distracted himself. The feeling of relief once they were safe was so intense that his knees shook, and it reminded him of the cruel things that he had done to achieve that safety. [ It wasn't his fault. ] Levasti commented. [ I know... I know that. ] Erin replied vehemently. They sat quietly for a while, both were waiting for the other to open their mouth. Erin felt cold runnels of perspiration beneath her clothing, damp patches blossoming at the pits of her arms. She watched Keisuke with dilated eyes, thinking that whatever words that would come out of his mouth is plastic. But Keisuke kept his mouth shut, which annoyed her even further; to the point where she want to throw a pebble at his face. " Hey!! Say something! " Keisuke visibly flinched, but his lips were sealed tight. Finally, a sigh came from Keisuke that pierced through the suffocating space of darkness. He took the space beside Erin, where their knees are already somewhat nudging each other. " I'm sorry.. " Keisuke swallowed everything and just thought that he'll accept the blame. His eyes are gazing upward, his apology came in a hoarse tone. " Once again, I'm sorry... I'll apologize as many times as you'd like. You can hate me as much as you want, but no matter what, I'll be here pestering you. " Keisuke said in an awfully aching voice that almost undid her. Erin is intellectual enough to realize what is right and wrong. Trembling with despair, Erin was terrified that she might burst into tears. She was disgusted at herself for lashing out her troubles to someone like Keisuke. " Just go... Leave me alone for now. " " But Erin... It's.. " " I said go!! " Outraged, Erin unconsciously threw the dagger sheathed on her waist at Keisuke. Before he even had the time to blink, Levasti had already pierced his left arm. Surprisingly, this did not anger him. He looked as though he understood and walked away after pulling out the dagger and placing it beside Erin. Keisuke's arm erupted in a raging fire. Desperately, he battled unconsciousness. A wound inflicted by a spirit weapon is no normal wound. Levasti's blade left a chill that wreck his brain repeatedly, as if he was stabbed multiple times. Keisuke's hurt. Badly hurt. But he knew that he had to get away and give her space. His muscles ached from exertions, sweat poured over his body, his breath wheezed through his lungs. " I can't believe what I'm doing. " With every passing second, Keisuke is nearing to his grave. Blood is slowly dripping from his wound and if left untreated, it will no doubt take his life. But he just kept walking, frustrated at his own shortcomings. And then, an unexpectedly familiar warmth jolted through him. His heart began to pound. " Erin? " He said her name, half prayer, half curse. He wanted to reassure himself that what's happening is not a dream. Erin held him from behind, her hands are placed on his chest. " I'm the one who's sorry. " She was shaking. He was shaking, too. For so many reasons, he wasn't sure as to what led her to do this. " Damn, damn, damn, " Keisuke kept repeating. He knew he was displaying a deplorably limited lack of vocabulary, but the aftershock is just too great, prohibiting him from verbalizing any other word. He consoled himself with the fact that it could be just a dream. Illusions playing him for a fool. " I don't know how to apologize. " " ..... " Keisuke had grown quiet in the midst of his confusion. When he was done doubting himself, he turned fading eyes to her face. He could barely see her, but the serenity in her gaze was unmistakable. " Is it Erin really? " " Yes... " After her shaking subsided and his verbal stutter finally shook loose, they both stared at each other's faces. Their both so pale. " I saw.. Everything.. " She exhaled with a jerky shudder. That's all she said for a moment, then her words began. " Keisuke's promise and the reason why you were so admant in protecting me.. " One another thing as to why Spirit weapons are sought is because of their ability, Total Recall. Just by grazing one's fingertips on it's handle, that person's memory will be engraved on the spirit's mind and could be replayed through memory dive at will. When Erin extended her hand to reach her dagger, Levasti immediately played Keisuke's experience in the forest. In a fast forward motion, all of his sufferings went through her mind. Bewildered by the sudden memories flowing through her, she could not control the tears from flowing down. She immediately went after Keisuke. " I see. I'm not so manly am I? " Keisuke's vulnerability touched that spot in Erin's heart that was so often closed. Her arms intertwined around his neck and she brought his mouth down to hers. For an instant, their lips touch; fleetingly. There was the hot taste of need in her lips. The unexpectedness of it knocked the wind out of him. But what kept him absolutely breathless was how good that need tasted. How much he wanted her to need him. How much he needed her to need him. " Idiot. " A soft glow had settled in the corner of her pale green eyes. Smiling beautifully, her eyes blurring, she stared into Keisuke's. " At first I thought I wanted to be free, but in reality I merely wanted to escape. " " In this world, I have nothing... No friends, no family, and not even a place to call home. I don't even know what's my purpose for being here. That's why, if you could trust me once more, I'll be your family. Even if the whole world would cast you away as long as I'm here, I'll always be on your side. " Keisuke reached out to grasp her thin shoulders. He stared into her blurred eyes, his voice ragged with emotions. Words that Erin wanted to hear all this time came from a stranger. " I will show you, that you would have no more need for tears. " " Really.. " Erin said, mopping her tears with her hands, then giving up and simply lay comfort on Keisuke's reliable chest against her flooding eyes. Erin began to cry in earnest, wracking sobs that caused her ribs to ache. " This hurts Keisuke.. It feels like it would never end.. " " I know... I'll listen to everything. " Erin nodded her head, her face still buried in his chest. Keisuke kissed the top of her head, quick and hard, surprised at the anger sweeping through him. " Taking advantage of the situation.. You're really a pervert.. " " I think I deserve it. " Keisuke kissed the top of her head again, a little softer this time, and realized her hair possessed the richness of raw silk. He held her, patting her back until her sniffles ended. The two of them connected, acquiring the mysterious bond between people that deeply trust each other. |
