Episode 1:
Piano piece played by Kaoru when Mariko (his cousin) asks him to play at home:

First notes of song played on piano by Sentarou:

Episode 2:
Song mastered by Kaoru:
“Moanin’”, composed by Bobby Timmons, here played just like Art Blakey’s band (‘Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers’) did. Version: Moanin’ [Alternate take].
First jam session (with Junichi):
“Bags’ Groove”, composed by Milt ‘Bags’ Jackson, here played just like Miles Davis did in 1957. Version: Bags' Groove [Take 1].
Episode 3:
When Sentarou and Kaoru do their little get back together jam:

Episode 4:
Song played when they are practicing for the gig Junichi came up with:

Episode 5:
At the end of the episode, Kaoru gives his mother an LP: “Sings Lullabys of Birdland” from Chris Connor. Later the song is heard as background music:
“Lullaby Of Birdland”, composed by George Shearing and lyrics by George David Weiss, here sung by Teshima Aoi.
Episode 6:
Halfway the episode, Kaoru tries out a new song with Sentarou following on drums. It’s the song that Ritsuko likes from a particular movie:
“My Favourite Things”, originally written by Rodgers and Hammerstein, best known from the 1965 musical “The Sound of Music”.
Episode 7:
The great finale of the school festival is sabotaged due to a power fail, and Kaoru kicks off a swingin’ medley with some earlier played songs, now with a very jazzy interpretation. Sentarou backs him up at the drums:

“Someday My Prince Will Come”, here obviously played as Bill Evans would
and “Moanin’”
Episode 8:
No jazz in this one?!
Episode 9:
The duke out between Sentarou and Junichi is played out in a last jam session with Kaoru and Tsutomu (Ritsukos dad):

Episode 10:
Halfway the episode, Ritsuko is down at the basement, thinking over the last conversation she had with Kaoru, playing the first notes of:
“Someday my Prince Will Come”
Episode 11:
After Sen and Kaoru ask Tsutomu to help them out at the school festival, they start jamming, firing it up with:
“Milestones”, made famous by Miles Davis.
When they are discussing a key factor in winning over Matsuoka and his pop band, they come to the idea of adding Ritsukos vocals to the band, and they exercise with
“My Favourite Things”
Episode 12:
After 8 years Kaoru finds Sentarou again at a church. He swings in the theme song for one last time, hitting the church organ, soon accompanied by Sentarou at the drums:
“Moanin'”
And also, another jazz tune is played a couple of times throughout the series, as background score:
“Satin Doll”, written by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn
