What I've read of the light novels so far I like. Definitely, there are big differences from either the manga or anime. Of course, it would be nice if they were being published in order.

If you want the full story read the novels. The manga only follows along one path of the storyline which is called "Reborn on the Mars" and features Sister Esther, the other novel series called "Rage against the Moon" features the other members of the AX along other adventures which help to explain their characters in the anime and the manga
