| So it seems I'm a glutton for punishment, as I went ahead and downloaded the Blu-Ray rips for the worst anime of the year. I really wanted it to be better as a marathon, and hoped that removing the random censorship would make it at least viewable. Nope, it still sucks. This series had so much potential ... but it just reels drunkenly from one disturbing vignette to the next, and the last episode still doesn't make a goddamn bit of sense, nor does it fit at all with the tone of the series. It's like another manga suddenly took over on the final episode. What's worse, it's obvious they didn't really put much effort into the parts that were originally censored, because once the black bars are gone, the gore is sloppily done. So, the things we have no resolution on: -How Yume has been satisfying her hunger up until the red butterflies -What in the hell the 'red butterflies' are to begin with -What Maria has planned for their children -Who it was that kidnapped them, either the crazy fucker or the paramilitary guys -Why the siblings allowed themselves to be kidnapped by a guy with a knife when said knife is no threat to either of them -Whether the incest ever goes into actual sex instead of cannibalism I have to give them points for a graphic, disturbing tale, but this would have been much better served as a movie or OVA adaptation. Some stories take well to the micro-anime style, especially light comedies; a horror like pupa definitely does NOT. Fuck you, Studio DEEN. Fuck you so damn hard. |

You'll at least be able to see what's going on without completely random censoring (as I recall they once censored a drawn knife without any blood just cuz). And the gore does add to the atmosphere, even if it's rather poorly drawn gore. |
