Is this related to the series or manga?

So I recently finished watching the series from like the 70's and figured I would watch the movie. After watching the movie I am completely confused and don't understand where this story came from. Is it an alternate story of Harlock or is it like the Manga version? I just feel lost... anybody?

I came here with the exact opposite question.
Is the TV series similar to this movie?
I LOVED the movie but the first episode of the anime didn't look very promising to me.

And if the anime isn't as epic as this, what about the manga?
Does the old anime do a good job at adapting the chapters?

haha! The TV series was pretty good to me. I haven't watched many older anime but Harlock had good detail, music, and an awesome story. The movie was way more epic though!

Someone should do a remaster of the old TV series or make a couple good movies that follow it's story.
