Welcome to Mafia Society!

Section 1.1: General Community Rules and Guidelines

  1. These rules direct the actions of human beings (forum members) and are enforced by human beings (moderators). Human beings are fallible. Some leniency will apply. But we will be much less lenient for egregious rulebreaking or the same type of rulebreaking multiple times. Attempting to exploit loopholes in these rules will not be tolerated. The club warning system is elaborated on below.
  2. In addition to these rules, you are expected to follow any other site guidelines. MAL's Site & Forum Guidelines, which you agreed on upon registering, can be found here.
  3. Be nice and respectful. Friendly banter is acceptable as long as it stays civilized. Acting continuously unpleasant or disruptive will lead to moderation. Moderators may request that a behavior cease if problematic. Ignoring a moderator request will be considered acting intentionally disruptive.
  4. Do not flame or troll other users. Flaming is a hostile verbal attack directed at another person or group of people. Trolling is the act of deliberately provoking a hostile reaction from other users. These actions will not be tolerated. Toxicity or harassment of any sort will lead to moderation.
  5. Do not engage in bigotry. Do not act with prejudice, use hate speech, or show bigotry towards classes or groups of people, this includes the use of racial slurs. Racial slurs used indirectly are allowed but will be moderated on a case by case basis. This includes but not limited to jokes, memes, and music lyrics.
  6. Do not violate other users' privacy. Under no circumstances may you spread personal information regarding other users without their consent, especially one of a minor (18 and under). Personal information includes, but is not limited to, users' full names, e-mails, and addresses. We will delete all such content. Doxxing, the sharing of someone's private information without consent, will lead to moderation likely to include a permanent club ban and discussion with appropriate authorities.
  7. Do not link to sites or images containing pornography, gross violence, or otherwise inappropriate material. Ecchi and similar images are allowed, but we will be deleted if deemed too inappropriate. Posting inappropriate material will lead to moderation. Posting or requesting pornography that includes a minor (under 18) will lead to a permanent club ban and discussion with appropriate authorities.
  8. Do not advertise, solicit, or gamble for anybody's financial/material gain, in particular in game threads. Such activity will lead to moderation.
  9. Public posts debating these rules and/or moderators' enforcement of such, outside of the appropriate marked locations, will be removed without comment and will lead to moderation. We encourage feedback if you have any questions or concerns. If you disagree with a specific moderator action, please politely address the moderator themselves first. If there is a further issue or you have questions or concerns about the rules as written, please contact _Wisp. If an issue persists, or you have questions or concerns about the rules as written, please contact Kaitou or ScarletCelestial. While appealing a moderator decision or requesting further explanation or consideration is acceptable within reason, hostility towards a staff member in response to any action will lead to further, harsher moderation.
  10. This is a friendly community. We're here to have fun. The easiest way to make sure that everyone enjoys their stay here is to make sure that moderators don't have to take any action. Our goal is to not to have to act as cops or babysitters. So just be nice, be appropriate, and let's all have a good time.

Section 1.2: Warnings, Suspensions, and Bans

  1. The first or second instance of a problematic behavior will lead to a warning. One or both of these warnings may be skipped in the case of egregious and/or intentionally problematic behavior.
  2. The third instance of a problematic behavior will lead to a temporary loss of privileges or a temporary ban from the club.
  3. The fourth instance of a problematic behavior will lead to permanent loss of privileges or a permanent ban from the club.

Section 1.3: Moderation Minimum Guide

This is a rough guideline for what one may expect should they violate community rules. All of these are minimums, if action is deemed necessary. They have potential for escalation or leniency at moderator discretion. Repeated instances of problematic behavior will lead to harsher warnings.

  • Continuously Unpleasant/Disruptive - Warning
  • Ignoring a Moderator Request - Warning
  • Flaming/Trolling - Warning
  • Inappropriate Material (General) - Warning
  • Advertisement/Solicitation/Gambling - Warning
  • Rules Debate Outside of Marked Areas - Warning
  • Modkilled/Replaced Twice in Four Months - Warning
  • Bigotry - Two Warnings
  • Hostile Response to Staff Action - Two Warnings
  • Cheating - Two Warnings, consideration of Temporary or Permanent Ban.
  • Doxxing - Two Warnings, consideration of Temporary or Permanent Ban, consideration of Discussion with Authorities.
  • Inappropriate Material (Egregious) - Two Warnings, consideration of Temporary or Permanent Ban, consideration of Discussion with Authorities.
  • Child Pornography - Permanent Ban and Discussion with Authorities.
  • Intentional Doxxing - Permanent Ban and Discussion with Authorities.

Section 2: Playing Rules and Guidelines

  1. We are playing a game; we’re here to have fun. Please be respectful of the other people involved in the game. Even though Mafia and other games involve attacking other players, toxicity will still not be tolerated. Attacking another user's play (e.g. "That was an incredibly stupid vote") is acceptable within reason. Sometimes emotions run high and we get caught up in the moment. That is not an excuse for flaming or poor sportsmanship.
  2. Follow all Community/Forum Rules (set forth here and here).
  3. Follow the rules set by the host. Knowingly and intentionally breaking a host's rules qualifies as cheating and will be moderated as such.
  4. If you are unable to keep playing, inform the host or any staff member not playing in the game. Do not announce it in the game thread. Do not force the host or a mod to moderate you for the purposes of leaving a game.
  5. Being modkilled or forcibly replaced comes with consequences. The community has a point system in place to reward games. Being modkilled or forcibly replaced two or more times in four months will lead to moderation.
  6. Keep the out-of-game separate from the in-game. Do not talk about ongoing games outside of locations approved by the host. Do not quote or screenshot private communications in the game thread unless approved by the host. Do not bring up rule-breaking in the thread; talk to the host. Do not use angleshooting or out-of-game knowledge. Do not post evidence of out-of-game activity in the thread. Do not tag, quote, or otherwise notify someone in a private communication of which they are not a participant.
  7. By confirming that you have received your role PM, you also confirm that you have read it. Not reading your Role PM is a form of cheating and will be moderated as such.
  8. Do not make more than a small edit to posts unless approved by the host. Even if it’s an accidental double post. In particular, do not delete posts.
  9. Do not spam the thread. More than five posts in a row in less than an hour is generally excessive.
  10. If you have a question for the host, contact them privately rather than in the thread.

Section 2: Hosting Rules and Guidelines

  1. Games of 10 players or more must have a reviewer unless they are open setups.
  2. A co-host is highly recommended for any new host or game with over 9 players.
  3. Hosts must publicize if their game is bastard or not.

Section 3: Cheating

Cheating in any form or fashion is prohibited. That includes, but is not limited to:

  • Discussing when players were last online.
  • Posting quotes or screenshots of private communications.
  • Asking players to cheat.
  • Disrupting game sanctity. (E.g. Posting any strategy or information you may have after dying/leaving a game, or communicating with other players through the use of external communication.)
  • Finding a loophole in the rules and exploiting it.
