This story seemed so promising, but in the anime, it feels like they overdid the drama and ended it in a boring way...

So I call on the novel readers to answer some questions and let me know if this story is even worthwhile...

After all that needless drama in the anime, we get an inconclusive "life goes on as is has been" type ending that one would expect to see in a shitty harem anime.

I am disappointed.
I expected much more from such a promising story.
It felt totally over-dramatized and cut off at the wrong point.

So...
Those of you that have read the novels; please spoil me and answer some questions.
(and please use spoiler tags for the sake of other readers)

In your opinion: Was this adapted properly or did they ruin it?

Did they add needless amounts of drama, or just carry it over from the source?

To what extent did they change the original story when animating it?

Exactly where did they cut the ending short? How far do the novels continue past the events of the anime?

What exactly happens afterwards?

Do the novels have a more conclusive ending?

I haven't actually read the novels, but I have read the ending of it and read some in-depth reviews on it and as far as I know the adaptation itself is just fine as for what it contains. It's rather the events taking place after the events of the anime's stopping point that are more critizised.

The overly forced drama between Sorata and Nanami is by far the biggest flaw of the show but as far as I know that's the same in the novels... though correct me on that, not entirely sure.

As far as what happens in the end though, I can tell you.

The person who directed the anime appeared to like Nanami quite a bit, because they gave her a much bigger focus in the anime. They rewrote existing scenes, and created new scenes, specifically for her.

As an example:

They also skipped over various scenes with Mashiro, so that she'd have less focus.

At the end of the day, even with the shift of focus from Mashiro to Nanami (I'm not a big fan of Nanami), I'd still say the anime did a much better job conveying the story than the light novels did. The anime took all the best parts of the storyline, left out some pretty stupid stuff, and made the characters less contrived.
