THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
This one left me confused. There were a bunch of random things. Referring to
the episode summary on the official webpage didn't give me much more insight.
I don't see the overall theme, except that they were asking riddles.

Whatever. This series is a megahit in Japan, so I'm really looking forward to
subs. Furthermore, given the amazing Blu-ray/DVD sales, it's hard to imagine
that there won't be a third season.

Yes, they were talking on riddles on the first part of the show. For the later part, they were talking about sports festival. The last part is riddle where everyone had to try to cooperate to match the pictures so they can get the right answer.

I have the first volume DVD pre-ordered! I bought all the DVDs for the first season and was satisfied with what I got. They had commentaries from the VAs and extra ad-lib parts which were cut out from the episodes.

^ Thank you for explaining the "mass game" (マスゲーム) that they were
playing in the gym with Mobuko-chan and some of her sisters. It makes a
little bit more sense now.

On the whiteboard above Hiina's head, it said はいっマスカルポーネ!
I Googled マスカルポーネ and found out that it is "Mascarpone", which is a
kind of Italian cheese described here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mascarpone

I can only understand the most basic content of what the girls are saying.
Even so, I find the show very enjoyable since they are so cute to watch.

A famous example of an anime series that has never been subbed is
Sazae-san. I think that a new 30-minute episode is on TV every Sunday at
6:30 pm. It has been going for many years and there are thousands of
episodes.

I believe that the animators are getting more skillful at making use of the
3DCG MikuMikuDance animation technique. It seems that they are using
the body language to convey personality and emotion. So we always see
at least slight body movements while a character is talking. Normally,
when anime characters are talking, only their mouth moves. The cost of
producing anime would be prohibitive otherwise.

The contents on the whiteboard this week is a reference to a radio show by Aya Suzaki and Asuka Nishi (Yua's VA) called "SuzakiNishi". They had a collaboration with the show and Aya Suzaki will be giving commentaries with Asuka Nishi for episode 1 in the DVD/Blu-ray discs.

I do agree that this is a very cute anime and can be enjoyable even with little understanding. This is especially true for voice actor fans of the series.

Though I agree that the staff are getting better at using MMD, the abundance of movement was always in the series. Especially for Aoi.
