Fantastic!

Up to today, in the history of anime, there have been two outstanding school
festival light music club girl band performances:

1. Haruhi (2006) -- Episode 12 (broadcast), Episode 12 (chronological)

2. K-On! (2009) -- various different performances during the series
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8mT9bg2haI

Both Haruhi and K-On! included highly-accurate fluid 3D animations of the
instruments. So the instruments looked great. However, it was a challenge
to match the 3DCG of the drums and guitar to the 2D animation of the girls.
The result was a somewhat "wooden" feeling of the girls' motion.

In Tesabu, they seemed far more lively. After all, the major selling point of
MikuMikuDance 3DCG is that the characters can dance. Furthermore, it is
straightforward for them to interact with a rigid object such as a guitar or
drums. Because of this, I found it much more lifelike. I found it easy to
relate to the personalities of the four girls. Who would have imagined that
Yaoi would have dropped her drumsticks?

While making comparisons, a recent episode of Sakura Trick included a
school festival girl band performance which was not special in any way. But
it is a good reference point for the current state of the art of traditional 2D
animation. In any case, it was only used as a background for the main story.

Here is another one that is interesting to have a look at:
