I thought it was a pretty good manga, but why was it so short. The concept was good enough to fill some more pages. The could have put in some really nice mind benders and other weird stuff.
Still, it was good, but im just not satisfied now its over.

I really liked this, and I agree. I wish it could've continued.

I'd like to see what would happen to the girl. Karma's a b***h and maybe someone would better her and kill her or even the dog.

I think the idea is it is more along the line of the old school short story with the twist ending. Like the Monkey's Paw or many of the Twilight Zone episode. Very much along the lines of the be careful what you wish for and you will get what you deserve in the end. In this case since the girl had been the original victim in these kinds of story they generally get away free because of the justification of what they are doing. Which at the end really was the question is Duds Hunt something truly justifiable?

It was good, but it could have been better. It felt like the guy got used to the concept of the game too quickly.

This felt like Gantz, only with humans instead of Aliens. Nontheless it was a good read and unlike some others I think its shortness is actually one of its best points. Dragging it out longer wouldn't have helped to further advance the story.

About the question of the late father being satisfied with his daughters doings, I highly doubt it because he appeared to be someone righteous who wouldn't have liked his beloved child to avenge his death in any matter, much less her creating a death match.

The really unnerving part of the story, though, is the prospect that I can see something like this actually happen in real life too, only without the government acting as benevolent towards the game - I'd rather guess they'd invest everything to stop the murderers and put them in jail.

Finally, the short story 'Awakened Dreams' was really great yet sad. If this was a real case (which could very well be) then it'd be all the more a topic worth discussing since it appears that rape (which was the reason for her developing multiple personalities) is among the subjects not talked about in public - often leaving the victims as the evil-doers, not only in Japan.

Having re-read the manga a few days ago, I have to got agree with you. Its length is (about) right. Still, I would have prefered it to have one or two extra chapters, though no harm done by not getting any.

A point at which disagree though is that I don't think this felt like Gantz. Didn't even find them slightly similar. Gantz has a completly different vibe. At least, to me it has.

There are some parallels with Gantz, but Gantz has the occasional displays of heroism and teamwork in spite of the carnage. Duds Hunt, on the other hand, is more about how baser motives such as greed and revenge can bring out the worst in people. I don't think there's a single "good guy" in there.

The short story at the end also caught my attention because, by coincidence, I had just finished reading Jorge Luis Borges's essay The Nothingness of Personality. For its length, Awakened Dreams is probably one of the most interesting one-shots I've encountered so far. I liked how the author used first person narration, varying points of view, and even different art styles to emphasize the protagonist's disordered state of mind. For some reason, Miki's personality disturbed me more than the others did.

It seems this manga raises interesting topics. Y'all should hold up for a minute. Amma read it real quick and share my own thoughts. However, I do understand that I'm 7yrs late haha.

Edit: Okay, I just finished the manga and it was a bit generic (predictable as well) plotwise and storywise. Do I sympathise with the girl? Yeah, when she was a kid. Do I care for what she decided to do? Nahhh not really.

She succeeded in making herself seem shitty to me finally. Ditto to her for getting revenge though. Then again, I guess karma is a bitch. Goes to show how both the aggressor and victims can both end up being equally trash given specific scenarios.

This manga was all too realistic (even if the narrative used in the story was a game) with themes such as revenge and how far off the deep end humans can fall just to succeed in getting their revenge. Ah well.

Another quick read. Unto the next one.
