| Aww man, this got sad suddenly, I can't stand sad thing... :( So Makoto will most likely die/disappear. So she was a fox in another life. That explain her wild behavior. That story kind of remind me of [MAJOR CLANNAD AND AFTER STORY SPOILER] I guess the next episode is the last of Makoto arc, I'm preparing my kleenex :'( |

| I'm surprised by how many people were saying how unexpected this episode was. I thought they made it a bit too obvious that she was the baby fox from the first episode. The lack of memory, social skills, and parents made me think something was up. Then when Yuuichi found her on the same hill as the little fox, and then the larger fox was watching him as he carried her home, I knew instantly that she was the fox. Maybe I'm just too accustomed to Key anime and should have started with this one. (I'm kinda going backwards right now.) Don't get me wrong, I'm still enjoying this series immensely. It's just I'm already expecting the emotional tragedies to come and "Key magic" to save the day in the end, so there's little they can surprise me with. Still I'm in it for the feels. ^_^ |
| Seems like the 2006 version uses the name Sawatari Makoto to hint at Makoto's identity, and later on deals with the chopsticks and manga reading part to actually foreshadow later events. Whereas the 2002 variant uses Yuuichi's adept to handle the sick cat to foreshadow, with a similar chopsticks scene and her gradually losing her speech knowledge. Both are great, but still preferred the 2006 version which felt more natural, and the 2006 version takes victory for making full use of Mishio's role in the story, which the 2002 version did it half-assedly. So that's quite nice to the full story line :) Though the scene with the chopsticks seem to be some kind of build up for what will happen later, this might be better than a direct shock with what will happen to Makoto. Many will not completely understand directly but the scene with the fox was imo better imprinted with this version than with the 2002 version where Mishio just tell's Yuuichi, here he remembered it on it's own and than goes for confirmation to Mishio! I have a feeling you are remembering some parts wrongly. The chopsticks scene was also used in the 2002 version, and the 2002 had a better descript when the cat falls sick and Yuuichi just knows how to deal with it, making him remember something. Although, KyoAni wins the overall perspective when it comes to foreshadowing. They did it real well here, and is less of a shock factor as compared to the 2002 version, which really took me by surprise. In fact, the distinction between the 2002 from the 2006 in Makoto's arc lies in the development of the plot and characters. The old version, while making an effort to make it tragic by the end, did little to deal with the superficial bare minimal development and thus making it more shocking than sad. Whereas, the 2006 did so by gradually hinting it on you, and hence I believe the end product will be very emotional for Makoto. Although, you are wrong to say that the 2002 just "directly say it". They did foreshadow, but it was not obvious enough. I'd admit, it feels a bit sad to know what is going to happen later on, but in turn it gives me a better point of analysis of all the events and hints here and there, of this 2006 version. Definitely encourage people to watch the 2002 Toei version first. |

| I love Clannad, but somehow Kanon has so far failed to work any magic on me. I know they want me to feel something when they reveal Makoto is a dying fox, but the only feeling I had was "that's really weird." I think the combo of childish girls that aren't nearly as funny as Fuko, a sarcastic protagonist without any painful backstory to justify his constant ridicule, and the "I forgot every detail about my super emotional childhood" plot are what are hurting Kanon for me. I'm hoping that we get to spend some more time Shiori and Nayuki in the future! |

| Looks like Mishio has a similar experience in the past.. I'm really affected by animal adopting stories like these.. liking this anime a lot. Yuichi better be nice to Makoto while she's still around! :< |

| That Makoto's reveal came out of nowhere, and to be honest it fell flat for me. It's again the same Fuko situation all over, which I wasn't a big fan of in Clannad too. Also what's the deal with this new girl, how she knew all of that. |
