Takaki must stay with kanae after losing akari, just as edmond got haydee after losing Mercedes.
A chance for a fresh start in life.

I'm glad they expanded on Kanae, 10 years into the future too. I always love seeing how characters are after a long period of time since the story ended, how they are now and how the past has affected them. It seems Kanae hasn't changed much, she's still the same indecisive person who always feels lost. Still, it was nice seeing that she's found at least some peace, or at least acceptance of what is. Also, that's a lot of nephews.

But I was disappointed by the ending. I thought the manga would end on less of a cliffhanger than the movie did (although I would not change the movie's ending), but instead it ended on an even more cliffhanging scene. I assume Kanae saw Toono-kun, but what was even the purpose of that scene? It feels like it's only there to bite, since we don't know what'll happen to either of them. Do they catch up, make peace with their (or Kanae at least) lives, and never meet again? Do they get together? I honestly don't understand.

Still, it was a good read. Still made me sad, not as sad as the movie maybe, but still sad.

Not what I expected to see, not how I expected this story to end, but it was a good short drama.

The ending was not promising at all, Kanae finally came to terms with her first and only love, she accepted her faith and last shot... we see him & Kanae's surprised, and full of hope, face.

I just hope Toono to end up with Kanae :<<

Kanae yearns him for years and i like that effort, that's certainly why she needs to end up with him. It just sucks that some slightly sad plots (like this one) doesn't have a good ending nor reveals an ending making an awful cliffhanger for the audiences to be more depressed.

But overall this is a masterpiece despite being made in 2007, a little bit confusing when it comes to the dialogues and timelines of some panel in the manga (since it is made in 2007 which is less detailed than the manga we read nowadays) which is understandable.

The ending was nice, and it concludes everything. Akari moved on, Takaki moved on and now Kanae has found closure as well. I really liked this manga as a whole and now I’ll watch the movie.

Not a satisfying ending from my point of view, but it is fairly consistent with what we've seen before: two indecisive characters still hung up on the past, who hurt those around them by using them as crutches, and waste time pitying themselves and making excuses.

I empathized with Toono and Akari's feelings not being in sync, with Toono being much more hopeful about their future meetings than she was. But I stopped feeling sorry for him after he was still hung up on Akari 10 years into the future. Seriously, how many adults who've been through university and have entered the workforce, are still pining for people they hung out with in middle school? According to this manga, this is supposed to be sad and poetic, but I just find it pathetic.

There is value in contemplating your future and what you want. But this manga was too wrapped up in its own drama to allow any room for realism. I guess I just have little patience for characters who are too cowardly to own up to their own shortcomings, and instead claim they "can't help" acting the way they do.

And yes, I am very much aware of the fact that Toono is obsessed with a version of Akari that doesn't exist anymore. Ironically, Kanae is still hung up on a past version of Toono that does exist in the present, because he barely changed from what she knew of him, except for maybe becoming even more disinterested in caring about the women he's hurting.

All in all, the most sympathetic character is definitely Risa. I also liked how Akari, while thinking of Toono occasionally, had moved on and had relegated her time with Toono as a nostalgic memory, but still a chapter in her life that was very much over. To me, Toono ended up being the most unlikable character in this story, and I'm disappointed with the ending's implication of Kanae once again having her life thrown into disarray after meeting him.

The 11th chapter is not written by makoto shinkai and afterwards added by manga writers,it doesn't make sense because ta kaki never looked at Kanae, and how can Kanae suddenly came to Tokyo after 10 years to only search takaki,it makes the story unrealistic, that person showed in the end is may not be ta kaki, because how he pass the park at the same time when kanae came,it makes the nice story totally bullshit, and I don't think after seeing Kanae, takaki feelings will suddenly change it just not possible because he only saw her as a friend and nothing more, even if they meet in future by coincidence takaki will say to Kanae to move on,because he never had seen her in that way other than friends,in the novel it mentioned that takaki wants to know about kanae more but as a friend because she was so nice to takaki and he always longing for akari,in last part of novel it mentioned that takaki wants to say to Kanae that please dont be so nice to me,in the end,it says that he will never look at her,so the last part is like Kanae will move on from takaki after seeing him,and can give a chance to his friend who proposed to her.

Hmm I solely read this manga over the anime cause of Karhu's review since he's one of my favorite MaL reviewer. Throughout this entire read I waited for a very dramatic plot twist which never actually occurred, that's fine since the atmosphere was consistent. Takaki is a very petty bitch which kinda "makes" this manga since it revolves around his feelings and how he copes with his loss even after all these years.

What I like the most about this story are the unhappy conclusions. Like rather than relying on character deaths or rejection, it instead relies on routes that depresses the readers (at least imo) - Akari's letters never reached Takaki and she eventually married somebody else. Another instance, Takaki's fate, his unfilled feelings remain hurt and his dream of becoming a Cosmonaut was never fulfilled. Another painful character was Risa as she had to deal with Takaki's bullshit, he still thought about Akari and Risa tried incredibly hard at changing his feelings by understanding him, in the end it was all for nothing.

As long as Takaki was in the last panel (which isn't even confirmed XD), I'm totally fine with this ending and I won't give the anime a try since it might change my thoughts on the story. This is more of a depressing moral story about life rather than a romance, not an incredible piece of work but I see why it's impactful, surprisingly relately too.
