Tomoka is the SG??? I thought she will be the PG cause she knows the most about the game....but Saki can be good....
It will be interesting...i'm looking forward to the next ep....:D
"The other side of the other side of the other side would be the other side"
I actually sort of disagree on the positions, but Tomoka is listed as a point forward, being able to play multiple positions. That's why I said in an earlier post that she reminded me of LeBron James at first.
About Mihoshi, I was surprsed to see her, I'd mistaken her for a loli for a minute there until Subaru called her Onee-san.
I think Mihoshi's his aunt.
She is, given how she harassed him into coaching she probably threatened him with something to make him call her onee-san instead of oba-san. ( ̄ー ̄)

Actually, since the girls were playing boys in that beginning segment, I think that's the club's goal. At least in the anime (I haven't read the manga so don't know what the story is there.) The bit with the boys waylaying Subaru there towards the end would support that.

Some of us are unfamiliar with basketball, so could you provide the actual position names instead of just initials? I personally can't figure all those out, I think PG is point guard, but I have no clue what SG would be as an example.
They made every girl in this anime lolis >_>.
Just how old is Mihoshi (Subaru's aunt?) she looks like one of them cute lolis in the team lol.
Hinata is my favorite so far, she is daring and extremely cute just like a doll.
There is a lot of fan service in this huh... I don't even want to imagine what that sunflower scene will become when BD comes out uncensored. -.-
Anyone else notice that, with Miho-nee's diary thing, Subaru's mother's voice, character-type and general lack of father; this guy just rubs me as one with an Oedipus Complex...

Okay then:
Point Guard - Saki
Shooting Guard - Tomoka
Center - Airi
Small Forward - Hinata
Power Forward - Maho
The Point Guard (PG)
Point Guard (PG) - Also known as the one (1). The Point Guard is the so-called "floor general", setting the team's play on offense, and guarding the opposing point guard on defense. The PG is usually the smallest player in the team, but he's also their best ball handler. They must have sharp court vision and superior basketball IQ to excel in this position. A true PG always looks to pass first, and attempts to shot ONLY if there are no open teammates to be found.
Strong Areas: Assists
Notable PG's: Magic Johnson, John Stockton, Steve Nash, Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, and Rajon Rondo
Shohoku's PG: Ryota Miyagi
The Shooting Guard (SG)
Shooting Guard (SG) - Also known as the two (2). The Shooting Guard is usually the most prolific scorer in the team, creating high-volume shots on offense, and guarding the opposing team's best scorer on defense. The SG is expected to be able to create his/her own shot, make long-range shots when necessary, and defend the perimeter.
Strong Areas: Points and Assists
Notable SG's: Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, Ray Allen, and Dwyane Wade
Shohoku's SG: Hisashi Mitsui
The Small Forward (SF)
Small Forward (SF) - Also known as the three (3). The Small Forward is usually the team's most versatile player, as the SF is expected to be strong in all areas of basketball. He/She can play and defend multiple positions on offense and defense, respectively. Some people say the SF is the bridge between the Point Guard and the Center.
Strong Areas: Points, Rebounds, and Assists
Notable SF's: Larry Bird, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Paul Pierce, and LeBron James
Shohoku's SF: Kaede Rukawa
The Power Forward (PF)
Power Forward (PF) - Also known as the four (4). The Power Forward is usually the team's best post (i.e., near the basket) defender. He/She can make post moves near the basket or shoot short to medium range shots far from the basket on offense, and defend the post on zone defense or the opposing power forward on man-to-man defense.
Strong Points: Points and Rebounds
Notable PF's: Karl Malone, Charles Barkley, Dennis Rodman, Amar'e Stoudamire, Chris Bosh, and Dirk Nowitzki
Shohoku's PF: Hanamichi Sakuragi
The Center (C)
Center (C) - Also known as the five (5). The Center is usually the biggest player in the team. The C uses his/her size and length to dominate near the basket on offense and out-rebound and shot-block opposing players on defense. For this reason, Centers are chosen to take jump balls, especially the opening tip.
Strong Points: Points, Rebounds, and Blocks
Notable C's: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Dikembe Mutombo, Shaquille O'Neal, Tim Duncan, and Dwight Howard
Shohoku's C: Takenori Akagi
OH MY GOD!!!!!!! my body was not, HNNN-, no.....meme ish snuff can not show the SHEER AMAZINGLYNESS AWESOMELYNESS THAT IS THIS SHOW!!!!!!!!!!! IF I COULD RATE THIS HIGHER THAN 10, I WOULD. THIS, FOR ME, BLOWS EVERYTHING I'VE EVER SEEN OUT OF THE WATER. NO COMPARISONS. AUTOMATIC NUMBER 1 ANIME EVER! FAVOURITED, LIKED, TWEETED, REPOST AND COMMENTED. I FREAKING LOVE THIS SHOW.

I WILL NOW REREREWATCH THIS EPISODE 12 MORE TIMES AND I PROBLY WILL STILL FEEL THE SAME TOWARDS THIS SERIES!!!!!1
PG - Saki
SG - Tomoka
C - Airi
SF - Hinata
PF - Maho
PG - Tomoka no doubt. She knows the game more than anyone. Also has the best ball handling on the team. Look at those dribbling.
SG - Hinata cause if she learns how to shoot that's the only thing she needs and will do. She will be set-up by Tomoka anyway.
SF- Maho
PF - Saki (Both could be interchangeable)
C - Airi without a question.
Well, let's just wait until the official site reveals their playing positions.
For now, let's just update:
PG - Tomoka
SG - Hinata
C - Airi
SF - Saki
PF - Maho
@Hinata at SG O_O Will we be seeing a lot of pick-and-pops in this anime?
But you know, there's something called "bench" in basketball. So far, I don't see any bench players on the team. Are they trying to pull off a "Dear Boys"?
It does, quite a bit, thank you so much for all the information!
ミ★(*^▽゚)v Thanks!!★彡

tomoka was supposed to be my favorite... but hinata stole my heart
at least in this first ep :) cute show
Hinata is just cute beyond words. It's hard to explain why, but she's already my favorite by a long shot. O(≧∇≦)O
thenube74 said: not much to say its pretty cute so far but i reeeeally hope they dont try to develop an actual romance between the girls and subaru. And i dont know why but i have a really weird feeling someones gonna die higarashi style O_O
maho reminds me of nagi lol
So anyone will not think otherwise there will not be any harem, romance, and death.
YEX said: This anime is quite interesting but I think the girls are too small to play basketball (except for Airi)
It could be possible that they will use a "run-and-gun" strategy. And please note that they are still 6th graders, so they're considerably smaller than full-fledged female basketball players.
Anitnelav said: Kinda surprised that Kugimiya Rie isn't voicing one of these lolis.
Kugyuu's just finished Lotte no Omocha and Hidan no Aria's almost done (AFAIK), so prolly she's available for another "loli" project again, unless JC Staff wants her for Shana III, that is.
I don't think they can really play with traditional positions, really...Based on the size of the ball compared to their hands, I'd put them at 4 feet at tallest (Excluding Airi, of course. But even so, I wouldn't put her past 5')
Against any team with 'normal heights,' they'd get blocked all day. Just look at the intro, all three of those players make Tomoka look short.
I'm kinda doubting if the writers have any experience with basketball, honestly. I'm talking about the moment at the beginning:
Other team is up by 1 with around 10 seconds left on the clock.
Tomoka dribbles at half court, getting triple teamed. She can apparently shoot over them, so passing shouldn't be a problem either.
Since she's getting triple teamed, two of her teammates must be open.
Yet the other team's players are so assured at their victory.
What does she do? Does she pass to give an easy shot for the win? No, she takes a shot from about 3 steps past half court, with a terrible angle and release.
The score was like 33-32 or something, so obviously, they can score points. If only Tomoka could score, they'd have started double/triple teaming her a lot earlier and if no one else could score, they'd be way further behind. She had no idea what to do when she was trapped, so I doubt that she had been pulling some epic moves to get past them for the past 15 possessions or whatever it was.
Since her "shot" came from half-court, it could not be impossible that Tomoka was actually setting up a play for somebody (I think it's Maho, judging from the way she called for a pass).
However, it could be possible that Tomoka felt the pressure of the moment. Seeing somebody carrying the team all by herself, who would not be pressured? This reminds of somebody, but I really hope Tomoka is more clutch than Queen James.
In a loli-type sports anime like this one, player positions may not matter, considering that they're portrayed as anything but Slam Dunk and Dear Boys. But please note that they're still grade schoolers, so it's not possible for them to play official games against say, high schoolers, so height isn't really much of a problem as long as the writers don't screw up by writing up 6-footers for their opponents (LOL). Obviously, the fans will kill them if they did. So don't worry, female grade school players shall have heights of under 180 cm (6-foot)
It's like lowering the height standard by 1-2 feet. You can compare a say, 6-foot female pro, to a 4-foot female 6th grader. Tomoka is 142 cm, or 4-foot-7. This is comparable to a 6-foot-7 professional basketball player. And so on. This makes Airi, the only 5-footer in the team, comparable to a 7-footer in pro ball.
I have good news: Sentai just picked Ro-Kyu-Bu for licensing.

KugyuuRie has two anime voice roles, Twin Angel as Kurumi and Iori in Idolm@ster.
Hinata is just too cute~~ can't get enough of her.
Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou? :3
Also, agree 120% on the Hinata part, she's just too adorable for words to describe.
I think the LOLILOLILOLILOLILOLILOLILOLILOLILOLILOLI!! part is from MM! ...
I THINK... 8D;; (even though it could be from other places so, I have no clue //shot)
lolis + sport = ...mmmm... interesting..
they're all in 6th grade!?!?!?!?!? ... :I ...fffffffffff... ffff... they don't look like it to me.. OTL
or maybe its because all the 6th graders around me already looked like 15 year olds when I was in middle school..
scary.. xD;;
I don't like the shooting arc... it's to flat to be swishes...
I can accept the girls beating boys in the near future, as girls are physically stronger than boys at that age...
Reading Basketball manga, playing basketball game, holding a ball, reading magazine... and... Drawing... Hinata is adorable.
Overall... Cute show... Will give this show a few more episode... I doubt this show will have more basketball than Bamboo Blade having Kendo matches, as the focus is pretty much on the cute side.

Nope, but she do remind me of Kamio Haruko of AIR.

They're apparently all in 6th grade, and given the age difference you get between Japan and US schools because of Japan's school season starting in spring vs. fall in the US, that makes them old enough that they'd be 7th graders in the US, which is middle school age. And most middle schools have girls and boys basketball teams. (Many elementary schools have some too, with the 4th-6th graders mostly.) So no, they're not too small to play, as long as they're playing against people around their same age. ヾ(´・ω・`)

I just hope it'll get better.
People who hate loli stuff vote loli series down. Some do it unwatched. Some watch an episode, even though they know they'll hate it, and hate it and rate it a 1. It's rather an irrational way to act, if you don't like a genre then don't watch it. ( ̄~ ̄;)
AirStyles said: I can accept the girls beating boys in the near future, as girls are physically stronger than boys at that age...
I don't know about stronger, roughly equal maybe, since it's mostly the changes puberty brings on (in particular the changes to girls hips) that causes the relative strength differences. Prior to that boys and girls are roughly equal, with differences from individual to individual obviously.
I think the boys' biggest issue is going to be that they're cocky little jerks, and so they aren't taking the girls seriously. Not taking your opponent seriously is a great way to lose in anything. ( ̄ー ̄)

Reminds me of something like this:
"Never mock somebody who's sick, or he will drop-kick your ass on the hardcourt."
