The show made them so much money and was so well received, a lot of fans just live in a bubble where they think the series they didn't like was a disaster for Bandai. Well, bad news, that direction was super profitable for them and is not going anywhere, there are always other franchises for you to check tho

@Airsaber I have my doubts about the "best and well-received" thing, but I've already sworn off arguing in this thread, so oh well. I was mostly making jokes about G-Witch, but anyway, although the official site seems to put Nyaan as a more important character for the show than Shuji, he is the one who is bluntly called MC's crush. In any case, this time all three are listed as the main characters, and not just the MC and her female "friend".

I mean, I haven't argued with you over your jokes or anything else. I'm saying that in all of the spaces known to me - English, Japanese, my first language, Facebook, Reddit, Tumblr, Twitter, etc, etc - G-Witch was well-received. Even after the initial complaining over the series's beginning being in a rather different tone than the prologue/pilot episode (and I do admit I would've preferred the whole series being more like the prologue), even when it turned out that the second season was as short as the first one and, sadly, rushed, and even when someone from Sunrise/Bandai had a hilariously massive brain fart over the epilogue and posted weird shit about Suletta and Miorine being space roommates or something.

Not sure what the second part of your comment comes from, but personally I don't care about the possible gender of [a] possible love interest[s]. If the main love interest turns out to be Nyaan - fine by me. If it's Shuji - fine by me. If there's no love interest or both end up being her partners - fine by me. The vast majority of romantic relationships in the Gundamverse are not very well-written and end up being awkward or even inexplicable, anyway, and I don't consume Gundam-adjacent fiction for kids falling in love.

Edit: I don't feel all sunshine and roses about GQX, anyway - I'm not exactly enthusiastic about the possible "an alternate version of UC where the whole-ass OYW was won by Zeon just because Char stole a mobile suit; oh, and also we have lazy designs like a red Eva with a ton of crap on its back" leak.

If the show is UC, what is the chance Anno will make a connection to victory since it's his favourite?
If it's AU I want it to really be it's own thing, I love G witch but unless it's a sequel we don't need G witch 2 even though it will be cool if there's some kind of meta connection due to G-witch being very eva influenced

@Airsaber The resources you mentioned have a very specific audience that does not represent the whole Internet, let alone in the real world. Especially the last three, where all you had to do to succeed was to have a yuri and a female protagonist. Not to mention the phenomenon of an echo chamber, which means that people often mistakenly perceive the opinions of those around them as dominant. In fact, you yourself mention SuleMio's attempted recton, which was one of the most famous attempts to demage control of the show after Sunrise suddenly discovered that the decision to do yuri caused a lot of criticism from old fans or those who did not expect it due to the attempts Sunrise once again does not focus on this (for example, mentioning one of the VAs that they were forbidden to discuss shipping). Sunrise knew full well that they were taking a risk with such bold experiments, so they tried to create at least the illusion of intrigue. But they underestimated how passionate the Western media would be about it, as well as how conservative the show's audience would be in typically Gundam-friendly Muslim Asian countries. I'm not talking about the criticism you mentioned about bait and switch, breaking the formula, and the overall quality of the show, since we're talking about popularity and not arguing about the show itself, though.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the show was completely negatively received or lacked praise. But also don't think that it was only received positively because Western media and the yuri community adored the show because of the yuri content and female-focused plot. This is as much a mistake as the modern tendency to forget past criticism of SEED due to the success of the sequel film. In general, I would rather say popularity among a certain audience than universal popularity.

I mentioned this as an example of how the show doesn't feel like a complete G-Witch clone. At least at first glance. Yes, I'm used to the fact that G-Witch's fandom is overloaded with people who only care about yuri, but I don't know you enough to blame you for anything. Judging by the new information, I was in a hurry and the show doesn’t say anything about romance yet, but as we remember with G-Witch, most of the specifics appeared only with the premiere of the show, and in a very unexpected direction hehe.

@RobertBobert I mean... Your opinion isn't represented by the whole Internet, either. That sounded like a really weird way of dismissing someone's opinion that you don't agree with/don't like. And I never said that the series has been received ONLY POSITIVELY. Of course it hasn't. No series has. It's even less possible when the franchise in question is old enough for plenty of fans to be geewunners. I said that it has been received well - surprisingly well (you definitely don't need Asian countries, Muslim or otherwise, for people to whinge about dem queers or dem ~*~feeemaaales~*~).

"G-Witch's fandom is overloaded with people who only care about yuri" - not the parts known to me, no. The majority of the Gundam fandom is made up of fans of, well, Gundam. And sure, they have always been yuri fans - not to mention yaoi fans (and, tons of fairly understandable jokes about Amuro and Char aside, it's not like we have any canonical Gundam series where two main dudes are in a relationship!), just like in every fandom. No wonder they are more active when once in a blue moon there's a canonical gay relationship.

And honestly? If one of the reasons why the the first animated Gundam series with a female protagonist ended up receiving less usual toxicity is because some people fetishize girl/girl relationships... I can live with that. And I'm saying this as a queer person. A rather tired and cynical one, I admit.
