@AJpurple This is gonna come as a shock to you, I see, but 16 yos all across the world have sex X'D 15 yos. Younger, even!

And I don't think Mao has much of an idea what sort of a relationship Hisashi had with the sensei. Only last episode he was still operating on the assumption that they'd been happy together.

@aedeann no shit kids have sex. they always have and always will, that's not my problem with this. it's that usually they don't show it on screen and only hint at it, most of the time not even that. and as an adult i'm not comfortable with watching literal kids being depicted so explicitly, it's a personal principle of mine not to watch child pornography lol, sorry if you find that offensive.

the other point you might be right about tho, i watched it back and i think the part explaining it was a flashback only us as viewers saw and he didn't actually tell any of it to mao

Not complaining! Wish more anime were like this tbh and stop dragging us along with the "will they, won't they" crap. If I wanted that for every show I watch, I'd just watch Friends reruns.

Well watching this episode at work was a bit awkward. xD I certainly wasn't expecting that in only 3 episodes.

Welll, ok i agree it was better this time, but again XD so fast? got together, ok, but did they even prepare or just did it as it is in dorm... at least Hisashi made sure Mao is ok. I still liked the sweet love words, they are cute together i admit. Target audience sure will enjoy from the start, i may just be bit too old for it, a bit, couse its not too bad, i saw worse, this is fine.
Its fun bro likes record his love life, but what if it gets in wrong hands... man, i hope they will be ok in the end, or maby they could use it as own movie? thats fun idea, we will see (no, i didnt read manga, its just my thought, i realy dunno what will happen next)
I wonder if we will get more couples or focus will be purely on the two. Sorry for my yapping, maby i will say sth again in next discussion, maby not, gotta wait for new ep to air and then be translated...

The way they potrayed the sex scene in this anime is so beautiful, don't think I've seen anything like it! Really enjoying it so far, I just wonder what the next episodes will be about :'D

Opinion warning!

While I will definitely be following this for the remainder of the season (after all, we only get so many BL anime every year) I'm starting to see a huge problem with this anime.

It is becoming more and more obvious that this is based on an eromanga... and in my opinion, it is not translating well to the Tv anime format.

This is obvious to me for two reasons.

1. Mao is Husk
In a lot of eromanga the MC is supposed to serve as a reader insert and as a result, these main characters are often super plain. That's what I'm getting from Mao. A majority of his dialogue revolves around his feelings toward Hisashi. It just has me wondering- who even is this guy? Does he have anything going on?
When I consume a TV BL anime I want both halves of the couple to be interesting as standalone characters. I feel like if we took Hisashi away from Mao he'd stand still and start walking into walls like an NPC.

Mao being a husk would work just fine if this was a hentai, but again, this is a TV anime...
It just doesn't translate well in my opinion. Remind me why they didn't just make this hentai?? We're starved for yaoi porn anyway.

2. Speedrun "development"
I saw a comment on a previous episode's discussion calling their relationship a speedrun and tbh it is.

Episode 1 - feelings realisation
Episode 2 - confession & kissing
Episode 3 - sexo!?!

This happens in a lot of eromanga as people are reading for sex. This doesn't happen in a lot of TV anime as people are watching to see the relationship develop.
Again, the eromanga pacing for relationship development doesn't work in a sexless TV anime like this.
The sex scene felt completely unearned.
A sex scene should usually be either erotic (which this couldn't be as it's a TV anime) or emotional (which this wasn't because it's only episode 3 and our MC is a husk)

I'll continue watching because I'm a sick fujo who wants to see boys kiss but I probably won't give this a very high score if it continues like this. Hopefully something game-changing will happen soon.


Anyway, onto more positive commentary.

I really loved some of the stills in this. A majority of the shots from the previous episode focused on showing just how pretty Hisashi is but mao really had his moment here. He looked so gorgeous with that small blush dusting his face, his pretty collar bones and slightly messy hair in the sunlight......
I also loved how the curtains around the infirmary bed did that "anime classroom kiss" thing. Made me chuckle.

@hidenashi Mignon has the same tenderness, even though its much more graphic and rauchy lol ahahah.

@Lapiz_Shadow I don't mean to be too blunt, but Hisashi has been... fooling around with that teacher for something like two years. I'm sure he has... supplies : )

Mao's impulse to commit everything beautiful and important to film reminds me of Eiji, actually. They both wish to immortalize fleeting moments and the people they love via a camera lens. The only difference is one prefers still photography and the other favors motion picture.

@Lapiz_Shadow I wasn't expecting it to happen so fast either. But I am so happy I did not have to wait until the very end like in Mignon. Admittedly, that scene in Mignon is totally worth the wait, but I am happy we get to see a full relationship in this one. I actually think the way they use the anime to explore their relationship makes this one more mature than others. You're making me want to read the manga now!

(you get the lil joke, right) Anyway at least they both wanted it and did it safe way. Personally i didnt watch much Banana fish, couse i got too sad when my fav character died also felt too heavy topic for me, so I moved to other animes, but i do see resemblance, i heared some people also like to think about this two as reincarnation of Ash and Eiji who finally can be happy together and i support that and hope someone used the idea to write a cute fanfiction haha.

@Lapiz_Shadow Nice to see a ping on this! I am not going to lie, I'm sad. It's been months and the series never 'took off' the way I had hoped it would in BL spaces. There is next to no content on YT or AO3, really hurts that a silly romp like Tadaima Okaeri seemingly got more attention than this. Anyway, I had read the manga, including the most recent translated volume (not covered by the anime), and eagerly awaiting the official translation of the last volume (for now) This series has become my favorite BL to date, and I am positively starved for content!

And don't speak to me of Banana Fish, I've been in a BF appreciation loop since August 2024. Thank goddess for fanfiction...

@aedeann Ngl it felt rushed, but i get that they wanted close every relationship in one season. As for attention on series you mentioned, i assume its couse of the child adoption by same sex couple that people were interested how the story will be, personally not my type of content so i didnt touch it nor i plan, but i understand that people may enjoy see happy family out of everyday standard. And haha my friend got me to Banana Fish around 2019 so i bought 1st volume, i like the older art style, but still i feel its not a story for me even tho i appreciate the fandom somehow stayed kinda alive, i remember seeing bunch of cosplays at conventions and fanarts at least from around pandemy time. Its nice to see a dedicated fan :3
Since you read a Twilight out of focus manga, im curious, did you notice many differences or does anime follow it well? whet i most wanna know if the other couples got more everyday life situations or dates. At the end, i agree, bless fanfiction, tho it aint easy find a good one with actual plot sometimes...
