It is something like this: Steins;Gate happens first, similarly to what we seen in depicted in Steins;Gate, with the exception that Okabe never got any mails from his future self. Then all the iterations of Steins;Gate 0 happens (VN+anime+many iteration which we never observed) Once that's done, Okabe gets the mail in Episode 1, and Steins;Gate starts, the events play out as we saw in Steins;Gate. 0 is not between 22 and 23. It's before 1. |

Steins;Gate 0 is not worth it IMHO, it's a disappointment and did the opposite of the things I loved about Steins;Gate so I don't recommend this piece of crap but then again, it's just my opinion. You should watch it anyway and form your own opinion about it, a lot of people loved it after all so if you decide to watch it, I advise you to lower your expectations. |

It looks like OP already watched it, but as a huge Steins;Gate fan myself, I felt like Steins;Gate 0 was like when Hollywood movies are pressured into making the sequel bigger and badder until they lose plot cohesion. Aside from the Reading Steiner plot mechanic that's practically necessary for any time travel fiction to work, I felt like you could find a way to make all the plot points fit within a framework, making it one of the most cohesive time travel fiction works. But Steins;Gate 0 got way ahead of itself. Truth be said, a lot of the plot in Steins;Gate are better left untold. We don't really need to know how some teenage girl like Suzuka became the leader of a revolutionary army, or anything that confirms the typical anime hi-jinks. I'd much rather imagine that she aged much differently in the original timeline, making her a physically scarred butch dike badass or something, but Steins;Gate 0 had to prove that the franchise was just cringey shounen shit after all. The most enjoyable aspect of Steins;Gate 0 was the first few episodes which I think captured the feeling exactly of what a high schooler might feel like the moment he steps onto the campus of a leading school, feeling like he's ready to make a mark in the world. It would be cool if the real world was more like Steins;Gate 0 here, that freshmen are invited to participate in leading time travel research, instead of getting all the excitement dashed with gen eds and taking linear algebra for the 3rd time. |

@xZabuzax brother, i respect your opinion but i literally have been making theories and conclusions of the beta and alpha timelines for a long time, the truth is that in that order it is very well explained and following your logic you are saying that chapter 1 happens after everything that happened with amadeus, that is not true, you are free to make your theories but if you take the time to watch steins gate from that order to the simple order from chapter 1 to 24 and then watch everything else, you will see that my order is better, I can explain concepts and loops that have to do with chapter 1 and 24, the movie that has to do with okabe's past and how the lines arose, if you want to debate about this, go ahead. |

@Alexioos95 brother, the video that okabe received was received in chapter 23 of steins gate, actually that order is usually ignored. look at this, in chapter 23-24, thanks to mayuri and suzuha, mostly okabe from steins gate 0, okabe gets the video and realizes what he has to do, what happened in chapter 1 is the beginning of everything, it's not like it's a loop going from steins gate 0 to steins gate and from steins gate to steins gate 0 to understand everything, literally chapter 1 is chapter 1 if you say it because maho the little one said the same phrase that okabe said at the beginning of the chapter, i don't think it's like that. |

@hiraganaa I'm in absolutely no mood to start debating about this, I'm tired of explaining why the Chronological Order is dumb in the Steins;Gate forum, and I just don't feel like it. I will only say that shoehorning a new slower anime in the middle of the climax of Steins;Gate is one of the dumbest things you can do, if I watched Steins;Gate that way then my enjoyment would have been ruined because I disliked Steins;Gate 0 with passion, it's a shitty anime IMHO and shoehorning that piece of crap would have definitely, 100% ruin it for me, by the time I finish that Steins;Gate 0 shit I would have been in no mood to watch the last 2 episodes of Steins;Gate so I would have watched it with all my expectations in the floor by that point. It's not a loop per se , but by changing the past , they force the events to play "again". Edit : It's a lot more complex than that , and i admit that even i don't remember/understood everything. @xZabuzaxI don't have a problem with that, anyway debating is something I like to do to understand the other person's point of view and what he/she is trying to explain. anyway, if you think that I am one of those people that thanks to me your enjoyment is ruined. and say that steins gate 0 is crap, although as I perceive it is not. then why are you responding to the forum? according to me the best way to see steins gate is to draw your own conclusions, it's something that I imagine you already did and it's a bit tiring to understand certain theories and that it breaks your head with so many theories. but anyway the important thing is to enjoy it |

It's explained in Episode 23. hiraganaa said: what happened in chapter 1 is the beginning of everything, it's not like it's a loop going from steins gate 0 to steins gate and from steins gate to steins gate 0 It can not be the beginning. There is already the future Okabe , which was in the video. And it's revealed in Steins;Gate 0 that there was a lot more iterations than what we could think of. It's not a loop per se , but by changing the past , they force the events to play "again". Edit : It's a lot more complex than that , and i admit that even i don't remember/understood everything. (Maybe i'll re-read the Visual Novels once i have enough time.) hiraganaa said: literally chapter 1 is chapter 1 Exactly. You may now understand why it's titled Steins;Gate "0". =) Overall , i strongly recommend you to read the Visual Novels , and post on the sub-Reddit your questions/doubts. But be sure to not mention your "chronological order" , or you'll be burned to death... @Alexioos95 in fact you are right but anyway i explained myself wrong, it's not the beginning of everything. the real beginning of everything is when you start watching the series by yourself, the first time the light novels, i'll be honest, i haven't seen them. about the subreddit, here we go. what i'm trying to explain is that the okabe in chapter 1 is the real okabe that starts it all. and the other okabe never appears because he is doing the plan with suzuha. about the order from steins gate 0 to steins gate it's really true, but there are 2 ways to look at it Steins gate 0 to 23 24 Steins Gate 0 to cap 1 You can watch both whitouth getting lost Anyway, thats why i love steins gate |

But I still think that's the best order in general to watch it in anyway. I have admitted that the best way is to watch it by drawing your own theories and conclusions. But going from steins gate from 22 to steins gate 0 and after watching steins gate move on to the rest. It's still valid and if it's not the best way to understand it, it's one of the easiest. |

The Okabe we follow in the original Steins;Gate can not be the first one. He receives a video from a future self , after all. The Okabe of Steins;Gate 0 can not be the first one either , as he already lived through the "3 hellish weeks". Which means there was already Suzuha , from a future where Okabe died , killed by SERN. (And there was a lot of iterations of "0" before the final 0 Okabe can complete his plan.) As far as i know , the very first Okabe never was seen or mentionned , no matter the material. Maybe @SciADV_Maniac has something to add ? x) |

Especially when compared with the true order , which is "Episode 01 > 24 , followed by all the side material". Because yes , Steins;Gate 0 is a side-material , a bonus story. It was even specially created to be a cash-grab to fund the next Visual Novels of the series. Because yes , Steins;Gate is only a small part of a way larger franchise called SciAdv Series. |

@Alexioos95 let's keep in mind that we have seen different chronological orderings and honestly, when you change one chapter for another, even the slightest change can change the order of things. according to you everything that happens in chapter 1 of steins gate happens after steins gate 0. it's a fact, but anyway it causes a "confusion". is that in my order as I saw it, it is really chapter 23 to 24 what happens after steins gate 0. you say that steins gate 0 happens before ch. 1 which is true but that is a consequence of what suzuha did with okabe before chapter 24. and that consequence caused them to travel to chapter 1 and happen what happened. anyway, i am much of theories and conclusions and maybe i will build a 100% feasible theory, taking into account your order there are things in which i am confused and i want to retake them. |

@Alexioos95 It's not that I cut the climax, it's that there's really a debate on this and taking into account the orders, there's a lot of chronological orders, all this to understand the concept of alpha and beta time travel and what Okabe does for Mayuri and Kurisu, your order is really relevant and you're right, Anyway what happens in Chapter 1 is a consequence of what happens in Chapter 23 and 24, taking into account that Steins Gate 0 happens before Chapter 1, it really makes me doubt a lot of things |

@Alexioos95 Thanks for the help, although I don't think I'm killing the "core" of the show, I know it's a mystery but let's not confuse things What I'm trying to explain is why Stein Gate 0 can happen both before Chapter 1 and after Chapter 22 Anyway, let's leave this here, thanks for the help and your recommendations, they're really going to help me, those light novels and SciADV in general |

Steins;Gate 0 takes place before the entirety of Steins;Gate. It cannot happen after Ep22, since in Ep22 he already has the message from the future. It is also true that the Okabe who we start to observe in Episode 1 isn't the first Okabe "who started it all". We never observed the first Okabe through any material. |

IMO no, I love Steins;Gate, easily in my top 3 anime of all time. Steins;Gate 0 is honestly quite a dissapointment. It has matrix scenes that don't belong in Steins;Gate, Okabe is a wussy crybaby, Makise isn't really there per se, and the story is not nearly as interesting as the original. Maho is the only good thing about the anime. I really wanted to like it, but it's so painfully average as an anime compared to the masterpiece of the original. |

No, it does not takes place between those 2 eps, and this order is the worst possible order someone can watch this
@SciADV_Maniac I am baffled how people think it takes place between these 2 episodes. it's liked they completely missed the point. the whole final twist of 0 is that at the start you THINK it's an alternative ending that takes place after episode 22, but then by the end you realize the whole thing was a generation before the original steins;gate and is by all means a prequel. although, while I say "I'm baffled", I actually do kinda get it. on a technical level, the everything up to 23b would be basically identical to the first 22 episodes of the original story, even if all of it would technically be before the original series even starts, so It is fairly easy to get confused by it. |
