watch season 1 then just read the manga. Season 1 is truly a master piece but season 2 just shouldn't exist

Most of the haters of s2 are manga readers which is understandable because apparently it was really rushed and ruined. It threw the whole show in the garbage.

I would honestly watch season 1 and then read the manga after.

The show really got screwed up like Tokyo Ghoul. Very depressing.

so, imagine if they speed ran an entire story, to the point of the final arc being just some images power point style that happens within like a minute.

the manga readers all say the first arc is either the first or second best arc, BUT, the anime isn't just weaker, it goes EXTREMELY south.

also, season 2 doesn't exist.

those are just potential reasons for why it would be hated if it did exist, which it doesn't.

SPOILERS ahead:

Me not having read the manga, I have no issue with it derailing from it, to me the problem was the ending, it was completely rushed and it felt so underwhelming. Unlike the first season which was one of the greatest animes I’ve seen.

I totally agree with the rushed and power point, it felt so underwhelming and so disappointing that it went that direction since the first season was a masterpiece.

it's an unspoken rule that S2 doesn't exist in the fandom

S2 is hated because it is an abysmal atrocity compared to S1 , it skipped the most popular arc in  the manga , and just derailed from there. utter garbage
That doesn´t make much sense, why would they skip it? Especially if it´s the most popular arc, it even makes less sense.

Holly crap, I didn´t expect this many replies. Thanks to all who took their time to explain.

From what a read here, Season 2 took 100+ manga chapters, crammed them into 12 episodes (I know enough about anime and adaptions to know that´s just impossible) and still found a way to have an ending different from the manga. Is this correct?
Now I ask, why would they do that? Why not take their time and do thing like they did in Season 1, which apparently was done almost perfectly? Unless I know the story, it really doesn´t make any sense doing that.
Still, the people who didn´t read the manga (like me) said to give S02 a try because withouth the manga knowledge the story is kind of okay. I know I´ll definitely watch S01.

Oh, btw, for the people that suggested Heavenly Dellusion, don´t worry, I already watched it and I loved every minute. Probably my favourite anime from the Spring Season.

I know you asked another question, but I still wanted to give input on the first. Season 2 is more world building and adventure than I think a lot of people expected. Which the direction made sense to me because of how season 1 ended. I liked it pretty well. All of the complaints I’ve seen in CR comments are from manga readers. Anime only fans don’t seem to hate it. Evidentially the manga has an awful ending, but season 2 doesn’t go all the way up to the end.

Who knows ,maybe Crunchyroll wanted to end the series fast and lost for something more profitable or the beloved arc that was skipped ,Goldy Pond had children holding guns and they didn't wany to show that, we'll never know

The ending of the manga is still way better than the PowerPoint presentation S2 gave us.
Maybe it's just you but a lot of anime onlies did hate the abomination that was S2, there was still world building and adventure in the manga but it was done way better.

I was just basing my generalization off of what I’ve read in the CR comment section during season 2, so I’m sure it’s not representative of watchers as a whole. People always say the manga is better than the anime adaptations anyway, but this story seems more polarized than most is all.

It sounds weird that a distribution company would have a problem with children holding guns in an anime. What about all the other animes where highschool aged teens are fighting and even killiing eachother? Profit makes sense, that´s what a business mostly cares about. But whatever the case may be, what a shame.

season 2 adapted the rest of the manga in 12 episodes while cutting out important and fan favorite stuff, season 1 is peak though 10/10 season 2 was a mistake and optional

They tried to fill the whole rest of the story in one season.
The result is season 2 has gap and ellipsis everywhere. It feels like an incomplete chronology, not a story.

Some people think they skipped it because it would’ve been too controversial to animate kids with guns. Plus that arc would’ve been super expensive and hard to animate, especially for a studio like CloverWorks that isn’t known for action anime. On top of that, it introduces around 20 new characters (even more if you count minor characters and background characters) so they they probably just thought it would be easier and cheaper to skip it.

Season 1 is a faithful adaptation of the manga. Whereas season 2 crammed 200+ chapters into 11 episodes and cut out multiple fan favorite arcs and characters.

S2 took the events from manga and made them not make sense. It was a highly anticipated series, so when it didn't meet the expectations and what the fans were looking forward to, they were unbearably disappointed and most people were discouraged from this series. There are only a few people left who like the manga, but I don't know anyone who would say that this show is good after the second season aired…

@Dan_ALves Ok, so, season 2 doesn't exist, but if it did, this is a possible reason for why it could have gone south.

While anime does make a lot of money, most of the money that is made from them comes from external things like manga boosting in sale, figures, or bluerays.

in japan in particular, the shows actually pay the tv stations to air their shows, and I believe they make the money from the adds that play in-between episodes, which is extremely backwards, but whatever.

which means a lot of the money made from the anime itself, is from the streaming in the west.

now, the promised neverland is REALLY popular... but... that's not necessarily super important.

The promised neverland is not popular when it comes to figures. most figures sold are either "bad ass fighting shounen guy screaming" or "sexy anime girl". the promised neverland.... doesn't have a huge appeal to the people who normally buy figures. so that brings it down a little.

but the second even bigger factor was that the manga was finished, and they were less than a 4th through the story.

which mean, with proper pacing, they would need about 3 more season. maybe a movie too if they wanted to nail it.

but the issue is, when a manga is finished this much before the anime catches up, it's a diminishing return kinda deal. a s2 would boost the sales, but then a s3 would barely do the same. because the people who bought the manga after s2, probably finished it.

with 2 of the biggest selling points gone, some bastard producer probably thought they should just wrap it up in one season.

which anyone who knows jack shit about anime, knows is an absolutely horrible idea. which is why even some of the staff members didn't want to be credited on the show. everyone who worked on it knew it was shit. and it's so clear that they were forced to do it.

well... ok the soundtrack still goes hard, that one dude actually gave it his all.

A smart move would have been to make a proper season 2 (which would have been the most popular arc and would have given them a huge boos), and then not make more until you decide that it's profitable.

if you wanted to be dick about it, you could have ended it on a cliff hanger that didn't properly finish the arc, just to make people REALLY want to read the manga.

but why make a sensible choice when you can completely and utterly burn the entire god damn bridge.

the choice was clearly made by someone who knew nothing about anime. which is why it's so tragic...

that said.... this is all if a bad s2 existed.... which it doesn't. so all is good.
