I don't think you can change the past.

Except that's exactly what they did in Saikoroshi. The DEEN anime cut this info up
but it was still mentioned in the VN. And it would be a lovely twist.

I'm scared, I don't know whats going to happen, are we getting bad route Shion? I don't think so but I also don't think it'll be Mion.

How the hell did we go from good route track to bad route?!

I'm rewatching the original series currently, and so Watanagashi-hen is fresh in my mind.
It feels like not much new information was presented in this episode, but because of the way it ended I feel like the opening to episode 7 is going to show us a possible divergence.

Watanagashi-hen truly gave me the chills, so I'm excited.

Wouldn't it be funny if they enter and find a dumbstrucked Featherine inside?

"Child of Man, this wasn't in the script". And they make an 180 and leave forgetting they even attempted to enter.

It could happen... Right?

Seriously tho, I have no idea where they want to go with this deceiving arc.

Rena in the previous one was giving out clues but I cant tell if Mion or Shion or anyone else is acting strange...enough for this series.

And seems Takano is even more dramatic than in the OG lol.

Man we love seeing that Shion and Mion confusion. It was kinda sad and funny that Keichi tried to protect Shion, but ended up getting beat up. Though it was a nice sentiment on Keichi's part.

I got hard Monogatari vibes from that last part, with the whole head tilt thing lol.

Featherine, quickly changing the script: "The 4 intruders won't notice the woman with the weird head device hiding behind the statue and would leave without suspecting anything."

If you didn't watch the old anime or read the VN you shouldn't be in MAL discussions, most of the comments here are full of spoilers (some people literally don't say anything useful, just some spoilers for no reason with some stupid statement).
r/anime has discussions for new viewers if you want some opinions with no spoilers.

I mean, I've always loved SoL stuff in Higurashi, so it was still enjoyable, but there's a lot of cheap-ass animation and simplified artstyle in this episode + slideshow during date with Shion. I think they missed the point in which scenes make better animation and in which simplify. Overall, it's many times worse than previous episode, at least and I feel like it's one of the weakest episodes so far. Lastly, unneeded here Shaft poses kinda irk me, I've had enough of them in the opening (K1 is brown-haired Araragi in it). Still give episode a 4, coz I really liked K1 and Shion interactions, Shion is so beautiful and Mion's reactions are cute. I've always loved Mion more but this last episodes sorta changing my mind. Shame there's nothing interesting in this episode other than that, no new mysteries, though, maybe for newcomers there's something. Lastly, end of the episode was decent, perfectly overlapped with ED song. Was hyped at that moment, knowing what's inside.

Gotta say if Featherine is inside that shed this anime will be 10/10 insta fav for me xD Probability of that is the same as in Bern's magic. I need some Umineko tie-ins showed asap, coz I'm kinda losing hope to see it at all.

I dont know who is responsible, the translators or the editor but whoever is I hope they get fired.

What the fuck are those translations? Why change the way the characters talk? Sometimes they oversimplify it down to one word that is slightly similar to what was said, other times they add shit in their lines and sometimes the translation has nothing to do with what was said or the context itself.

And this is a mystery series. If sol scenes suffer that much I don't want to imagine what will happen if clues lie in what the characters say but our geniuses decide to word it however they want.

Does Satoshi even exist here?

Pieces can be removed from gameboards and so far the only indications that he was even part of this series are his name in the bat in the OP and a silhouette when Ooishi was telling the story of the previous victims but of course he isnt aware of what Satoshi did.

So what if he has been removed from the gameboard?

I do see more the remake part of this anime, and it's getting annoying. I know Ryuu wanted it to be newcomer-friendly, but we do have to rewatch a lot of old scenes. Last Arc it was a twist, and it was great, but now I kinda feel it's just has 90% of filler with 10% of new plot :(

Yeah it's almost like Satoshi doesn't exist on this gameboard.
Well he isn't really that important to the plot until the Shion/Satoko stuff comes up so maybe they want to foucs on other things.

Tbh I hope they don't go for that. But only because it would make Rika look so dumb, not realizing that he isnt a factor here.

Oh there was a mention of a kid disappearing that was under the care of the second victim's husband but this is WTC and without actual names being used we cant really be sure.

You will have to change so much shit from Satoko and Shion's past if you were to remove Satoshi from the gameboard, I don't think Ryo will or need to go to such length.
They didn't mention him yet because he's role is yet to come up.

I really liked this episodes, but seeing some people's reactions it makes me understand why Deen decided to streamline the whole twin plot and get straight to the ritual storehouse. Guys, it's not filler: it's actually fleshing out the characters so you can know their personalities better and understand their actions better later on, as well as who is who. Character construction and development is good, you know.

They've outdone themselves with the eerie aspect of the series. The conversation on the shrine grounds and the scene before entering the shrine were great. The only thing I didn't like was how Keiichi was pretty much screaming while Takano, Tomitake and Shion were telling him about the murders. Like dude, you're in the middle of a shrine full of villagers, do you want them to hear you talking about how they are possibly murdering people? Lol.

I'm really looking forward to the next episode and I'm guessing that's where the deviations will start, because so far it has been almost the same as the visual novels. I was secretly hoping that the deviation would be Keiichi refusing to enter the ritual storehouse, but alas, he's still a block head.

Edit: Something I found really weird was how Keiichi didn't tell Shion when she asked him for the doll "But you already have that doll! I gave it to you, remember?" Not that it would have mattered because he found the truth about the twins two seconds later, but it was still odd.

Satoko when she was calling Keichi and Mion.

Mion saying "I don't know" as a response to Shion's teasing became "okay okay okay" which doesn't really follow up.

Keichi's line about the food stalls makes him appear even harsher towards Mion.

Those I can remember right now.

Also back in ep2 when Ooishi was talking about the murder of the woman they messed up who had custody of the kid.

Now that you talk about it yes, I found it weird for Mion to be saying "okay okay okay", like what does that even have to do with anything? But I put it down to Mion's brain being jelly and not being able to say something coherent.

I also remember in the trailer there was a pretty bad one. When Keiichi is supposed to say "Whoever is reading this, please find the truth", the subs say "You're the one who invited this, please find the truth". They also said "Hanamizawa" instead of "Hinamizawa".

The trailer may have tricked us to think it was a remake, but at least it presented the subs as they would really be in the series hahaha.

If this is only one season long, then I don't think we will. Unless this (or a future arc) is actually Onikakushi and it ends like that. Because it does seem strange that they would add a scene to the trailer that won't appear in the story.

It is supposed to take a break in ep 13 or 14 so maybe then. It doesn't have to b Onikakushi. In OG tye first question arc ended with a challenge /request. What if now it happens with the end of all question arcs?

Shion looking absolutely fine in her maid outfit and the casual clothes, very tough choice between her and Mion, they're both great. xD

My memory of the original is pretty fuzzy in terms of comparing it 1:1 but I remember the major plot points and this episode did feel very familiar and the whole dilemma about entering the shrine thing felt very familiar. Don't really think I'll get around to rewatching the original so the fact that they are sticking close to the original as many other people point out is probably really good for me as it helps jog and refresh my memory.

this is by definition not a remake -- they announced after episode 4 aired that these are new stories, and it is confirmed to chronologically take place after Kai (see: ep2).

Even if you consider it a """loose remake""" it would still be a SEQUELmake because of the timeline shenanigans going on. We have confirmation that Rika is already experienced with the entire original series.
