Well there goes my credibility after assuring ppl there'd be another full flashback arc lol. I feel like their teenage years would have made more sense to show in quick flashbacks but their early 20s would have made more sense as a solid arc? But what do I know I don't produce donghua lol. It is way better if you think about the target audience being ppl whove already read the novel.

What hurts me the most about Zixuan's death is that, through Yanli's love, he had grown a lot as a person and he was ready to get to know Wei Ying better, I think he was really trying to keep his family united by inviting Wei Ying over to his home and letting him meet Jin Ling. He wanted his family to be happy and he knew that Yanli would only be truly happy if Wei Ying was near her, so he was trying to accept him and, by doing that, in a way he was showing the other clans that he didn't reject Wei Ying, that he considered him as a part of his own family.
It hurts to know that Wei Ying had another shot at being with his family again but he lost it right at this moment, and his face says it all: he knows he can't go back ever again.
