Ah, I wish Shizuka would land a role somewhere. I need to see some progress for her character by the end of the series or I'll be unsatisfied. Her musical practices/rehersals are certainly helping her, and I want to see her shine through. Besides, can you even get seiyuu positions through connections? I'm sure there are recommendations, but seiyuu are hired based on their voice and suitability most of the time, aren't they? I think she stopped Miyamori just because she had no name to her and didn't want her position as a seiyuu to affect them in any way (since they drink there often). I can empathize with Hiraoka, but I can't sympathize with his attitude and work ethics. You can hate your job all you want, you can be disillusioned by the industry all you want, but you must do your work properly! Or quit and stop messing up everyone else. Sheesh. Miyamori earns my respect for not shouting at him and even giving him a second chance. I hope he cleans up his act now. Please just develop his character already. Two episodes of him like this is rather painful. Just find your passion again, Hiraoka. =__= No, please do not add romance to this show. D: Why must romance be stuffed into everything, can' they just focus on work and enjoy their jobs? I like the focus on the anime industry, and I feel like romance would just waste the limited screen time anyways. I mean, they barely cover the group of girls as it is, so throwing in more stuff would shorten it further. |

Another great episode with all that's good about this show. Miyamori finally acquired enough knowledge about Hiraoka to call him out with confidence and, even though it wasn't really her place to, somewhat make an attempt to rehabilitate him, despite the complaints by Segawa and Madoka. Still, regardless of his past or his reasons, Hiraoka still needs to be called out for his shitty attitude and his lack of commitment to the job. Sure you feel jaded for some reason or other whilst working in the industry you love didn't work out like you wanted it to, but you could have at least been professional about it and made it so you don't trouble the others. He reminds me of those kids who can't take constructive criticism and ends up flying off the deep end by going "Oh, if you don't like my work, then I'll just mess it all up and see how you like it!" It's immature and seriously a hindrance to everyone around you. I can now understand why he's been getting kicked from one studio to the next, though I'm mighty surprised that he hasn't been blacklisted in the industry already. I love the bond these girls share. Even though they're working on different things in the same industry, they'll help each other when they need to. The roller-coaster scene was hilarious, but even better was Misa playing on the kiddy ride at night after that whilst trying to figure out the physics of her CGI scene. Now that's some serious dedication to your work! Somebody please do a Gif of it. I'm not soo sure what'll happen when you put Hiraoka and Tarou together for Part A of the last episode, but I'm pretty positive that the end result should come out a disaster..... Looking forward to seeing what sort of problems will arise in the coming few episodes. And I can't say it enough. Props to Zuka for sticking to her principles of making it in this industry on her own two feet. It takes a lotta guts to shy away from such a well-presented temptation of taking the easy route. I wouldn't blame her if she did it, but because she didn't, I have so much more respect for her. Still, hoping that she'll have a role in the Arial Girls show. And would love to petition for a second season of this. It's well worth one. |

ramenshojo said: People who are sympathetic towards Hiraoka are blindly ignoring the fact that he's doing a shit job. At least 2 respected veteran characters have complained about his incompetence & its obvious he doesn't care for the quality of the work he does. He blatantly says that at least twice, once in this episode. He's the type of character who is basically a sore loser who is incapable of adapting, jealous of every other person who's worked hard and succeeded in achieving something. And sticks around to make life difficult for everyone else because his sucks. Where I work, he would be fired on the third day. Exactly. You could get away with that shit in maybe some parts of the public sector, but in any private company in any sort of competitive market the sort of shit he is giving as a paid employee would get him sacked almost immediately. The worst thing is that he's doing it intentionally just because "muh burnout". There's being burned out from trying too hard and getting disappointed, and then there's intentionally doing subpar work that ends up sabotaging the project, and he's squarely in the latter category. He brings zero benefit to the company and is being paid a salary just to screw over the project and everyone involved for his own convenience. And worst of all, if anyone decides to try and get him to reflect on his actions, he reacts badly and blames everyone but himself. tl;dr he's an irredeemable piece of shit. No amount of bitterness he harbours justifies what he's doing. Shirobako did a disservice to everyone who has to face people like that in real life by trying to make a fairytale ending for Hiraoka. |

Jonesy974 said: First of all, you SEVERELY underestimate the importance of doing research, and your ignorance is laughable. Context is everything. I said for an animation a VA is more important than a researcher. Do you want to argue differently? Who do you think the production committee, i.e. those paying for the show, care about more: the VAs or the researchers? Go back and read what I wrote: the staff could hire a researcher on its own, but when it comes to VAs, they have to get production committee input (remember the whole episode dedicated to that), because THAT'S what is important to the production. As the girls gain more experience of course they will become increasingly important, but they are not there yet, they need more success under their belts. Jonesy974 said: Second: "Aria's VA will get injured, they will be desperate for a replacement, Shizuka will get an audition with Miyamori's help, she will nail the audition because she was training for it this episode ". Uhhhhhhh, how is that going to work when the first episode of TAG aired on TV already? They were literally watching it live in the episode. Most, if not all of the episodes have bee dubbed already. There is no way to bring her in. Um, they are still animating the series, and the VAs are still working - they haven't recorded the final episode yet. Things can happen, and yes they can switch VAs between now and the end. Gundam Build Try had this problem when the VA for Ral had to be hospitalized and they needed a replacement from episode 5 onwards. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-09-23/gundam-voice-actor-masashi-hirose-hospitalized/.79132 So Zuka fans kick back, she is going to get her moment to shine, and shine she will, that is why they have kept her the least developed. |

Suzuka getting a third aerial girl main role would feel very cliche end for me. at least just put her voicing TAG supporting character or get a job in another anime. even the names of Aki Toyosaki or Ayane Sakura took that hard path. I believe there are someone like Suzuki Kyoko in real life, name it Matsui Rena as example, but putting our main girl with this situation is not suited to the story. As for Hiraoka i know how it feels to have a gap between ideal and reality, then you gradually losing your interest with your work but you cant stop working because you need it to live from day to day. I read it somewhere that the story actually planned for 4 cours anime (48 - 52 episodes) , so season 2 please come! |

about Hiraoka maybe there was something bad happened on him, got blamed for things which is not his fault, maybe he did see how a great deal of people in anime industry works in the way which totally disturb him. maybe he was forced to work in that way when he got a passion for anime. that can explain his attitude, but won't justify it. it is his problem and he shouldn't vent his anger and disappointment on others. Why he didn't just quit doing anime? because he spent years on learning, and all his working experience is about it, he won't be able to find a job very easily if he quit. He's the kind of stereotype, teenagers who just graduate and get into work for 2 or 3 years and find the industry is very different from their expecting. |

After weeks of routine and unremarkable activity on his Twitter account, followed by a week of Twitter silence, on March 7th Director Tsutomu Mizushima suddenly started sending out a very interesting sequence of tweets. These are all only my best-efforts translations and are incomplete in some cases. The links are provided to the text of the tweets in Japanese. I would greatly appreciate corrections. March 7th 10:58 pm https://twitter.com/tsuki_akari/status/574222631672512513 "I am in great need to drink a lot of alcohol." March 8th 8:41 pm https://twitter.com/tsuki_akari/status/574535477493043200 "I am currently studying military fighter aircraft. Recently, I have been thinking about the aerial combat maneuvering of the Cobra." March 8th 8:43 pm https://twitter.com/tsuki_akari/status/574535834226925569 "But I am wondering whether or not I should use the Cobra." March 8th 8:47 pm https://twitter.com/tsuki_akari/status/574536926935412736 "I inadvertently forgot something, so I need to get back to base." March 9th 12:28 am https://twitter.com/tsuki_akari/status/574592646737362945 "Still three more episodes to go." March 9th 8:08 pm https://twitter.com/tsuki_akari/status/574889582174433280 "I am thinking about the complicated lateral accelerations of the riders on the Mad Max roller coaster." March 11th 9:01 pm https://twitter.com/tsuki_akari/status/575627590842458112 "I have been thinking about what should happen in the story of Andes Chucky." March 11th 9:02 pm https://twitter.com/tsuki_akari/status/575627782723497985 "I have been thinking about what should happen in Jiggly Jiggly Heaven." March 11th 9:12 pm https://twitter.com/tsuki_akari/status/575630495972634625 "Unexpectedly, everybody is able to hear what Mimujii and Roro are saying." March 11th 9:14 pm https://twitter.com/tsuki_akari/status/575630802324602880 "I am feeling fluffy since there are just two more episodes to go." March 11th 9:16 pm https://twitter.com/tsuki_akari/status/575631423895293952 "The two more episodes that I just mentioned are the ones that have not yet been produced. Sorry that I didn't explain it clearly earlier." March 12th 2:23 pm https://twitter.com/tsuki_akari/status/575889809895391233 "Episode 22 of Shirobako will be aired today at 11:30 pm on TOKYO MX and at 2:05 am on TV Aichi. The title of the episode is 'Noah is underwear'. Thank you. Is this finished?" Judging from the look of these tweets, my impression is that Mizushima is still basically okay, and has been blowing off some steam with the assistance of a lot of alcohol. On the other hand, back in 2012, while the third-last episode of Girls und Panzer was being produced, there were some horrific production problems which resulted in appalling quality of Episode 10. Some poor girls were drawn with legs obviously missing. Mizushima started to send out some extremely strange Twitter messages and then went silent for a long time. Let's hope he can hang on until Shirobako is finished. |

This was an awesome episode! From Yano's sadistic smile to the amusement park scene (Ema getting knocked out was gold) to Tarou's funny moments and finally Zuka stopping Aoi from helping her move up the ladder (Respect) I did like the fact that Segawa talked to Aoi about Hiraoka instead of dealing with his sour attitude, I really don't care if his dreams and hopes got crushed earlier in his career since it's not an excuse to make it hard on everyone else and actually expect sympathy. If you don't like it just quit man you're not really held at gun point. I know Yano said that it might be it for him if he gets fired but so far him being there is causing more problems than solving them and I really hope he does get fired very soon. |

Cthuko a bit late. There's at least +1 compliment for Tarou this time: Comment by Segawa-san. Yano-san still won't let Iketani escape. Hiraoka still being a douche ass. Isokawa opposite of Hiraoka and also classmates of Yano all three of them. Misa very unforgiving about the repeated roller coaster rides with Shizuka & Ema. Midori-chan said GunKolle ref to KanColle nice one! Ema still a translator for Kunogi. Kantoku already finished storyboards for ep 12. 4x faster than Exodus. |

No once can escape Yano's awesomeness. Mii examining Zuka and Ema's expression on the coaster was hilarious. Lol Guncolle = Kancolle. Episode 1 already aired? wow time moves first. Tarou has become pretty awesome, he's hilarious. Tho I think half of it is Hiraoka effect with him being a bigger loser (at least so far. I expected him to be serious in the past) Zuka... I want her to become a seiyuu since episode 1. I hope the anime ends with her landing at least one role. Director and Ri-chan jumping together was awesome. TragicRomance said: Btw the group photo in the ED song is finally complete, looking awesome. Omg, usually I don't watch ED's but keep "hey lunar luna..." playing in bg til preview. It's so cool, they show each character's photoshop creation per episode (from line drawings, coloring, shade & specular, shadow, to gradient). Yay a Misa episode (sorta), been hoping for one. Her nonchalant way of Goproing the rollercoaster with Zuka & Ema (KO expression), and thinking over flight motion was quite funny. Just thinking on a spring ride... Thought on Misa's CG... Aria & plane models look fine. The jet's two rolls were nice but the yaw rightward between the rolls was too sudden. Only based of playing flight simulators & films, that yaw doesn't feel like the 10 ton fighter jet moving at high speed against air resistance. Also Aria's head is leading the roll... I've no reference, maybe ask Diesel-san, but the fast roll gives strong G's and Aria's head/body should follow after the roll. If it's a light glider/plane banking yourself helps, but feels odd in a 10 ton jet. What are these? Hippos? |

New showdown by Shirobako. Pausing a moment on what we have seen so far and keeping aside their inclinations in matters of taste, I can say that beyond the study of production, the character design, soundtrack and many other things that define a TV series such; I challenge anyone to say that this anime is not a product that has managed well in his intent, giving a glimpse of how true animation present, based only on the story and screenplay. Returning to the episode, pleasant narration that addresses the problem of Hiraoka, in a good manner and thus giving the opportunity to face again a question already seen the difference between ideal and reality. Drawings that show a new level of quality in discreet, story that always manages to be effective in its component SOL. I love this anime, I like to say this every time. |

Have to say I really hate Hiraoka's attitude. Basically, he thinks himself of better than everyone else and that's what disgusts me. I really couldn't care less for his low character and showing his tender side with cat or with previous colegues simply doesn't work. But it was nice to hear Aoi rephrase that Aria's quote about her dreams. She finally knows what to do with her life. And Zuka's dismissal of playing favours was also cool, I bet she really wants to win recognition only by her own talent. They are running pretty smoothly this time. Still I have the feeling something gets horribly wrong with publisher just before the end. |

XD Don't know which other anime shows are running in the their world, but GunColle is definitely among the best of the season. Aerial Girls is probably like Rolling☆Girls of our current season, which can actually be a decent show. Hiraoka is still a little bitch, despite all the explanations Yano gave as to why he's probably the way he is. In a way, he's actually worse than Taro. Not sure how well Isokawa's A.C. I know he was constructed to hate, and then say 'ooh~' when the revelation of his 'passionate' past and 'true colours' beckons, but they took him too far in these few episodes. Our episode begins with more characters who didn't sound off last time, including some out there ones like the sound guy, giving their reason as to why they make anime. This is later explored again in the main plot when things come to a head with Hiraoka's uncooperative attitude and Segawa who of course wouldn't take his shit. Miyamori attempts to confront him, at which point he has a serious meltdown and starts screaming at her that she doesn't know anything. I think this episode covered a lot of ground in making us at least understand why Hiraoka acts like such a tool. He wants to make the best anime he can, but feels probably due to difficulties in his past that it's untenable to balance and compromise with the egos of the creatives involved. As he spouts his cynical outlook, Miyamori wields the theme from last episode as a weapon asking why he continues making anime then. This certainly shut him up and gave him something to think about. I also felt some sympathy for him when he was clearly jealous or something of his old friend who now owns a small studio, and the shot of him playing with his cat in his apartment is probably the most likable he's ever been. I liked Miyamori going to Yano and the Studio Owner guy for advice on Hiraoka. It shows she doesn't just want him to burn out despite all he's put her through as the production desk. It could just be finding another production assistant this late would be too hectic, but I think it shows Miyamori's ever present compassion. And I liked how different their advice was too. Yano basically said she understands why Hiraoka is the way he is and thinks it'd end poorly for him if he got fired now. That was another sympathy moment for him this episode. Owner dude meanwhile just gave her solid advice in general on the importance of communicating clearly to all of your animators. One of the standout parts of this episode was Mii-chan co-opting Ema and Zuka to ride a roller coaster for her for a day. Ema and Mii-chan are both working on a scene where a character has a wild boar loose in their cockpit, and Mii-chan wants to get a better look at people's expressions in such situations. Ema and Zuka's reactions were cute, especially with Mii-chan matter of factly taking notes the whole time. It was also nice to see Mii-chan (like Rii-chan last week) get some more substantial screen time with something to do. The fact she and Ema are working on the same scene was also cool and unexpected. On a final note like that one guy last cour, I'm not so into 3D but that roller coaster was pretty well animated. There's another cool and completely unexpected scene where Nabe-P is having drinks with the President of "Bones" and one of his higher ups. Miyamori having failed an interview comes up and at their insistence Nabe-P calls her over to the bar where they are. Miyamori finally gets some closure on that part of her past, closure I didn't expect her to get. And there's also a small but interesting moment where Zuka (this is the bar where she waitresses) comes up to give Aoi her drink and Miyamori starts to introduce her as a burgeoning seiyuu. Zuka gently taps her and shakes her head no which could be taken more than one way. Maybe she doesn't feel like she's earned the title yet, maybe she just doesn't want to rely on anything but her own talent to get big. Either way it was a big moment for Zuka who till now has seemed so desperate to succeed she'd do practically anything. I'm glad she has some pride and character not that I expected her not to. Only three more episodes to go, I can't believe it. The episode ends with the Director jubilantly announcing he's finished the last storyboards in much shorter a span of time then he did last go round. It can't help but make me worried for Miyamori, nothing can ever go this smoothly in the world of Shirobako. I'm sure some troublesome plot twist is already on its way. |

-Oh man even the GI Staff guy and the SFX guy are in the montage of reasons at the beginning. It was more of a surprise to see the GI Staff guy but I was actually pretty glad to see the SFX guy again. -Kunogi manages to spit out two syllables instead of one -Still can't get enough of this OP, in terms of both song and animation -Huh, it never occurred to me that Iketani was working in the Studio Taitanic building -Erika with the references to the RMS while talking about the Studio -Erika's capability is pretty scary sometimes -AC Tsuchinoko pres seems hella more reliable than the Studio Taitanic goons despite being new, although it seems kinda scummy to try to recruit MusAni hires -Oh, so Hiraoka and Erika were classmates -The moment Misa gathered Ema and Shizuka on a roller coaster I immediately knew what was happening -Did they seriously call it "Mad Max" -Oh hey a Kancolle reference -Somehow the Third Aerial Girls Squad pre-air celebration felt like a direct callback to the Exodus pre-air celebration -Oh, it's the episode one airing. Somehow I thought they were farther along. In any case they're relatively much further along than they were with Exodus at the comparable time. -Hey an Index reference had a commercial air before both the Aerial Girls E1 airing and the Exodus E1 airing -Oh, and just when everything was going so smoothly Hiraoka goes and ruins everything with the timesaves -ACT's pres pretty much nailed the Honda impression, but how did he know that -Turns out he answers that pretty much immediately -Yeah, AC Tsuchinoko looks much more legit than Taitanic -Hey it's the return of the Born dudes -Was this a walk-down-memory-lane episode? -I didn't even notice that they were in Shizuka's shop -Director really stepping up his game this time Pretty enjoyable episode, especially with all of the references to older episodes. |

Great episode! I liked the drinking scene towards the end! And the roller coaster scene! And the director jumping for joy when he finished his work....and......you get the idea.... |

Sigh I don't know why petting a cat and the fact that he was passionate about anime IN THE PAST is supposed to redeem Hiraoka doing a shit job for at least a few years >_< I don't buy this BS, he's still a terrible co-worker. Finally Misa got some attention! Seriously, until now she received less screentime than Yano or Tarou in the whole series @_@ I couldn't even remember her name. I love how this episode started with characters viewing the first ep of their new series, this was the starting point for Shirobako after all :3 Miyamori's changed a bit since that time, and learned a lot of new things, and so did we <3 |

Ahh, this show has gotten so good during the 2nd half 😊 3 episodes left and we need: 1. Hiroaka to be come at least a half-decent person again or maybe we could cut out the half part since these last 3 episodes will cover 3 months? Hopefully. 2. Shizuka to to be happy. I really wanted her to land a role in 3rd Girls' Fighter Wing 😔 |
