I don't think I'd say lazy at all. I've read all the manga and it is a very fast paced series with almost all the focus being the fights. I mean how much is packed into just 23 volumes? So far the anime has expanded on a lot of the backstories that may have only been a page or two in the manga. That and the animation and fight choreography helps bring the fast paced, action heavy story of the manga to life. It may just be my opinion but there's not much more for the studio to do. Demon Slayer isn't a story that's heavy on story and not everyone's gonna like that.

I get that this season was not good because of two reasons...
First reason is that this portion in manga is just, mid and "non-important" part of the manga (I know you don't care abt nezuko, you knew it she's going to be alive no matter what)
Second Reason is that Ufotable is not putting resources they put. By resource, I mean good directors. This season clearly lacked it. Then why they aren't putting good directors? Because currently Ufotable is working on two another projects where most directors are there..
And in defence of CSM, man, you should look what crap cgi really looks like. Their FOREGROUND (Cgi for chainsaw man and katana man or Armoured titan) Cgi is much better then Ufotable Cgi. Yes I am not kidding. Don't believe me? Look at the berserker Cgi in fate series and enmu Tentacles in mugen train, which was a movie project or their recent fish Cgi. And your really underestimating how many times Chainsaw Man was handrawn even though he had complex model which was moving vey fluidly. And the Character acting sakuga which was always "on" for the whole 12 episodes (it rivals the likes of Violet Evergarden) and extremely cinematic and complex layouts and storyboard s for every scenes,even for the talking scenes. Also to note that 99.9% of CSM was NOT rotoscoped. So all those fluidly looking "walking scenes" which looked almost realistic is just that the animators like Kouki Fujimoto and tatsuya Yoshihara are too talented...
