kamishiro said: Shun was romantically involved with both Satoru and Saki but who he felt "more " ? As i'm confused, because he went intimate with Satoru but in in his dying moment the expressed his fondness for Saki or it wasn't clear in the novel and remains a mystery? And he knew how both felt for him right? Thanks for all the spoilers symbv ! By the time when they are 14, Shun seems to be more romantically involved with Satoru. > he went intimate with Satoru but in in his dying moment the expressed his fondness for Saki or it wasn't clear in the novel and remains a mystery? And he knew how both felt for him right? First don't forget in Shun's last moment, there was only Saki around, so it makes sense for him to express only the Saki part of his feeling. And he said he has been loving Saki for a long time. Second, the "moral codes" or social norm in this world is that while promiscuous and casual affectionate sex and homosexuality is encouraged, the marriage system is still a monogamous heterosexual one, perhaps because the importance of procreation is paramount in this low population world. And heterosexual sex is a lot more restricted (intercourse between underaged couple is prohibited). This means courtship between heterosexual couple can be awkward and slow - Saki wanted to confess to Saki but she felt she should not get in between Shun and Satoru. She was thinking about waiting till they are older, but Shun took a turn for the worse at that point... |
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old? I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them? I wonder how long people would put up with this. Oh, so they kissed more than one time but we only see them meet alone and kiss once in the novel, right? Or were there other times in the novel they kissed? 2) "Kissing in public, fine (which is why Saki would have seen it), but I guess having sex is something different." I meant why they hide it from their friends. Why didn't they kissed next to them? 3) "You don't always need a confession of love to show that you are falling in love, do you?" True, I'm just asking what were the signs for that that they fall in love with each other? 4) The novel continue after Saki and Satoru's sex at the age of 14 right? There is another segment when they are 26, right? The final war against the rat-people... And Saki and Satoru are still together as a couple in that part right? Are they acting like a couple like kissing and show affection for each other? Is that how you know they are really in love? I'll imagine that after 12 years together they won't think about Shun anymore at that part? 5) Also, I really liked Satoru and Saki's parts together in episode 5, will we see more parts in the story that it's just them without the rest of the group (before Shun and the other two died, not after. Because It's obvious that after they will all die it will be just Saki and Satoru)? (these are my final questions, I don't want to know anymore stuff other than what I just asked :X) deave112, I think you are getting a bit too obsessed with the love details.... 1. The correct way to say it is we only see them meet alone and HAVE SEX once in the novel. 2. Kissing in open they did, but having sex they did it when they were alone themselves. 3. Can't recall everything, sorry. 4. The novel is divided into 3 volumes when it was first published. Each volume has 2 chapters. The first volume is when the characters were 12. The second when they were 14. The third when they were 26. Saki and Satoru's sex happened at the end of the second volume. The novel is really not about love and sex, so details about how Saki and Satoru courted took a very subsidiary position to the scheming, fighting and adventuring (and revealing the secrets about this world) but I remember I can tell the two in love, but SHUN will always be a powerful memory for both Saki and Satoru. In fact, when they married at the end and they decided to have a baby, they decided that if it is a boy his name will be SHUN, and if it is a girl her name will be MARIA. 5. Not really, because SHUN's predicament is a major part of volume 2 and it started not long after the SATORU x SHUN and MARIA x SAKI episodes. "deave112, I think you are getting a bit too obsessed with the love details...." Yeah, you're right. I'm sorry. I can't control it but i'll try :X 2) "Kissing in open they did" Next to their friends? If not then they did hide it. 5) Oh okay, but in the third and final volume it's just Saki and Satoru right? How long is that volume anyway? Will we see Saki and Satoru's wedding? "in Shun's last moment, there was only Saki around" So Saki killed him? And where were the others and how did they react after they found out about Shun's death? |

Well they behaved affectionately in front of Saki etc and more than the kisses it is how Satoru and Shun looked at each other that got Saki to think they are romantically involved not just being good friends. The description did not say kisses explicitly but to me they will have kisses in open because kisses are really not so big deal. Saki herself said she has had kisses with COUNTLESS boys and girls by the time she is 14. >5) Oh okay, but in the third and final volume it's just Saki and Satoru right? And where were the others and how did they react after they found out about Shun's death? From what I've read so far, in some instances, Satoru just hugs Saki, showing that he cares, etc. Those kind of gestures are quite effective in showing love, even though a bit subtle. I don't think you'll get the vibe that they're madly in love, but its more of a mutual comfortable love. Plus Saki says she loves Maria (using the strongest form of "I love you"), so it wouldn't even be that special if she said it to Satoru anyway. Maybe there are more examples that Symbv can provide, if he can recall them. But I agree that love in the third volume is pretty understated. |

Symbv From what i remember, the demon karma thing, does it mean Shun started to do bad things and in the end become a demon itself? And thank you again for the earlier explanations. In my perspective when they were 12 Shun and Saki were more romantically involved, but at the age of 14 it was Satoru and Shun and if he didn't die i bet Saki would end up married with him. According to their world code. Casual sex and promiscuity was considered normal and it was a way to channel the stress, even for the youngster. Truth is i don't think it is so far away from our standards but just the concept takes away. Even in today ages, sex still has a strong meaning of romantical feel. |

Actually not everything in the fable story is fact. Just like fables in real life may be true story getting distorted over time, the fables you heard in Shinsekai Yori do not tell you all the facts. Some are true and some are not so true. But I can tell you that Shun will be linked to this karma demon thing later ... |

Yes Heterosexual intercourse is forbidden for couples deemed too young. There is even regular body check for the girls to confirm that. The rationale seems to be that underaged pregnancy is deemed a dangerous matter and underaged intercourse is considered a taboo in the novel world. |

I do not remember if it is mentioned what punishment awaits those who broke the heterosexual intercourse rule. In the scene when Saki had intercourse with Satoru in the novel, she worried about what would happen in her next body check. This indicates that perhaps such kind of sex at the age of 14 is considered too early in that world. However, she never gets punished for that IIRC (the novel does not even say what happens in Saki's next body check) -- so I guess the punishment is not too harsh and it may vary from case to case depending on the circumstances. |

Character X may kiss Character Y just once in the novel, but the anime might go more in-depth with their relationship and the opposite could happen as well. |

The replacement serves to illustrate more about how the story world is different from our current world. I'm not sure what you mean by that... So they are not real characters we would care about but just there to serve a point? And they won't have any real relationship of friendship or love with Saki and Satoru? |

I just want to say that the introduction of replacement is not mainly for the development of relationship for Saki and Satoru but to illustrate how the society works in the story world, and how it is different from our world. There will still be interaction within the group but I want to stress that relationship or love matter is not what the replacement is about. |
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old? I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them? I wonder how long people would put up with this. As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series. |

You mean, to show that the society will try to erase any trace of the people who died or disappeared and replace them with others like nothing happened? And who will be the leader of this new group? Saki? And the fact that three of the five main characters will die midway through the series is probably going to shock a lot of people. It would be a big surprise... Don't you think? |

I think even for those who do not read spoilers, they should prepare themselves for harsh fate befalling the main characters, so they should not be surprised to see any death, but I agree that the number of death (at least it seems that way) is high. |

Did they figured out by themselves how to bring back their powers like Saki and Satoru and will they help them in the battle against the rat creatures? |

Nothing really happened to those 3.... In ep.6 you should be able to see how Saki's wit help bring back the power at least for Satoru. And you can stay assured that even just a tiny part of power coming back is enough to get many queerats killed... |

I thought they didn't forgot about that girl that disappeared and that their society just made up an excuse and said she went away or something like that... They actually made them forget? Lol so Saki and Satoru did all the work and action and will kill all the evil queerats by themselves while the other 3 just rested somewhere? And thank you for all your answers! :-) |

They actually made them forget? Remember they never questioned where she went or got concerned about her whereabout... If there was an excuse made it should be showed or at least hinted at in the anime, but that did not happen in the anime.. It is part of the senior's power... and is deemed necessary because of concern of emotional impact for those youths who may be still at an age vulnerable to emotional upset -- dangerous for the society. > Lol so Saki and Satoru did all the work and action and will kill all the evil queerats by themselves while the other 3 just rested somewhere? Ha ha ha don't forget though that those 3 still do not have their power back so what they can do is very limited indeed. |

Ha ha ha God i hope their memories will come back eventually. It'll be really sad if not... I also hope that their friends will hear about what they did and will at least say something like "good work!" to Saki and Satoru for what they did. Will Saki and Satoru forget about their friends after their sex scene or before? |

@kpk10 > God i hope their memories will come back eventually. It'll be really sad if not... Well, given the novel is written as a first-hand account by Saki, she clearly remembers those disappeared classmates when she wrote it, right? > I also hope that their friends will hear about what they did and will at least say something like "good work!" to Saki and Satoru for what they did. What they did... meaning? > Will Saki and Satoru forget about their friends after their sex scene or before? Sex scene is at the end of vol.2 in the novel. Replacement was introduced in the middle of vol.2 |

And why did Saki and Satoru had sex anyway? I mean i know how it works in their society but if they didn't had sex until the end of that point they must had some special meaning/reason to do it? |

@kpk10 >>What they did... meaning? >participating in a war, bring back their powers... Well, they are NOT supposed to bring back their powers by themselves... Anyway they are supposed to be punished as the Monk said, but you will see what happens to them once they make their way back to the village. >So i gather the new members will not survive for part 3? Or will they and they will help Saki and Satoru in the war?! I did not say that... > And why did Saki and Satoru had sex anyway? I mean i know how it works in their society but if they didn't had sex until the end of that point they must had some special meaning/reason to do it? It is a complicated emotion thing. What they did (actual heterosexual intercourse instead of hand/oral job) is actually frowned upon by their society for their age. There is element of stress relief but there is also an element of pent up passion being let loose (not unlike how people in our present world come to have sex) and there is the extra dimension of they did it in the context of repeated frustration of trying to find Maria and Mamoru, which is confusingly mixed with the strong lingering attachment of both Saki and Satoru towards Shun, with whom neither could have any sex (or any display of intimacy) now no matter how much they want. |

@Symbv I believe 3 people die and or disappear, that aren't saki and satoru.. Why is this? if they disapepared. When does this happen? I'm curious because in the anime so far we never seen them. I also want to be spoiled onto what happens. You may have said this already, but I'm to lazy to click on all the spoiler tags. |

But if you really want to see what happens to the three eventually.... Shun got caught in the Goma syndrome and he chose to disappear (kill himself?) just like the protagonist in the fable story did. Mamoru, always seems to be lacking in mental strength, got more and more vulnerable mentally. Because he (and Saki etc) already got "black mark" by what happened in the summer camp, so he fears he will be "erased". He decides to run away from the village. Although Saki etc later found him, Maria realizes she actually wants to be with Mamoru after all, and at the end Maria and Mamoru run even further away. And they are never seen again. |

Tyrel said: Are the Light Novels still on going? It is in fact NOT a light novel, but a proper science fiction novel that is not categorized as light novel. Hence it is more serious and detailed than most light novels you can find. All the 3 volumes were published in early 2008 and it even won the prestigious Nihon SF Taisho award for scifi novel ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nihon_SF_Taisho_Award ). |
