I think Ginga Nagareboshi Gin really should be added. It's a WSJ series from the 80's that tells the story of dogs' epic fight against a nearly demonic bear Akakabuto. The main character is an Akita Inu called Gin, whose grandfather and father both fell in a battle against Akakabuto. He goes through tough training, joins a pack of wild dogs and travels with them around Japan, finding new allies.

Here are some attributes of the series I believe prove it deserves a place on the list of manly anime:
- The main character goes through ridiculously tough training in a harsh environment that could kill him, but survives all hurdles and surpasses his own limits.
- The story could be paralleled to a group of samurai battling an evil criminal with superhuman strength.
- A strong will allows characters to even overcome death.
- Friendship between men is a force second to none and none of the dogs are afraid to risk their lives to bring the others closer to achieving their goal. Many comrades fall along the way and in the final showdown and what follows is naturally shedding of manly tears.
- The battles are over the top violent in a good way. The dogs use some over the top techniques and the going gets over the top dramatic, even tragic, but the story achieves larger-than-life proportions.
- And last but not least: the dogs always refer to themselves as "otoko"! And while male dogs are generally portrayed stronger than females, the single female dog of the pack is quite the fierce fighter herself.

Ok, why is Top wo Nerae! (and Top wo Nerae! 2) not on this list?

Seriously, GUNBUSTER!!!!

They invented hard work and guts! This is the show that proves you don't have to be a man to be a real man!!

To be honest, I disagree with adding bands on the list. It's just seems to much of a stretch to me since there are many "manly" bands anyways, so I would rather just put them all in the group "Manly Bands" instead of listing every single band. We already have Megadeth in the list, so I really dont see why we need more.

Aslo, Gun X Sword should get a mention. Not only are the main characters pretty badass, but the 80 year olds in that show seriously know how to kick ass.

Ok, I just googled them:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15eBy4QRPgQ

You really have to see them in context though to get how awesome they really. These guys are close to 80, their mech is over 60 years old. And they aren't the main characters.

I guess it also helps if you've seen GaoGaiGar. (especially the sound effects)

And Gunbuster/Diebuster. Really have to be seen to be believed. But here is a short example from Diebuster (although it has massive spoilers, but w/e) For starters, Nono is voice acted by the same person that did Nia from TTGL.

Well since it's only a manga for now, you'd have to read it. Otherwise, I can't really find any pictures. I can tell you he is the "parent" of the future Demon King and he thrashes pretty much every delinquent in his school which is ironic since he's a delinquent. I guess if you want picture references, look at the other pictures on his character profile page.

Wolfwood is a character. The deuteragonist of Trigun.

Trigun manga, also, both of them. They are much manlier than the anime.

Example of manly Wolfwood:

http://manga.animea.net/trigun-maximum-chapter-64-page-2.html

Also, Toriko. The manga and the character. It's Fist of the North Star with chefs. Example:

Well, I tried to give some reasoning in the post, but here are some videos of the series:
Opening
Benizakura, one of the dogs, sacrificing his life to defeat an enemy bear
Akatora's death

Those last two videos are shining examples of the courage and manliness of the dogs.

Well, there's this grumpy old man, Gohee Takeda, in GNG, and he sure is a real man. He's so dedicated to killing Akakabuto (the monstrous bear who's the main antagonist of the series) that he's ready to fight the bear having lost his leg and being armed with only a cleaver. Incidentally, it was the same cleaver he himself hacked his (injured) leg off with.

He isn't seen that much, which is a damn shame, 'cuz Gohee kicks ass.

Truly by reading this one comes to understand the soul of a man a great deal better. Not to mention it's had 237 chapters scanned since last november with only 77 left and the group plans to do them all.

somewhat pre-emptive suggestion:

http://myanimelist.net/anime/9241/Super_Robot_Taisen_OG:_The_Inspector

The episodes out are manly, but as the series progresses, the manlyness should grow to colossal proportions (if you know what I mean).

I suppose divine wars as well, but meh, not so much.

Zone-00 my favorite manga. It's got manly men, lots of boobies, guns, swords, androids, fun humor, gore, everyone in the cast either smokes or has tattoos, some both and then some.

Hundred Stories I think should be added also, I can't even begin to describe it, one giant mind fuck works well.

Beelzebub- cause it's fucking hilarious and awesome.
