The animation is stellar, the opening music is amazing and especially the thinning the numbers scene is intense. If mappa keep up this level of quality, I feel like this will be certainly in the top few for this season

weak animation again but its still good enough

cool that Gabimaru is not a total pacifist he can kill for the sake of self defense for example necessary evil stuff

interesting that Sagiri have a great fear on killing people but she is a executioner that wants to achieve a painless killing method for the sake of her victims being executed by her

anyway Sagiri and Yuzuriha are sexy hot

Weak animation? You watched this with your eyes closed?
the first half had average animation, you seems to be confused between visuals and animation

I've just realized the OP is sang by my fave sheena ringo (alongside millenium parade). Btw it's really well adapted. It's been a long time since I finshed the manga series. I hope there are a lot of seasons to cover the story to the end.

This was awesome! The first half of the first episode really didn't interest me much, but the second half saved it for me, and now this? I loved this! This is honestly one of four shows I'm actually excited for now lol I've been pretty disappointed by most of them this season but oh well!. Really excited to see where this goes in the next episode!

Mais uma pedrada da Mappa, o anime parece promissor em ser interessante (não li o mangá). Quero ver como vão fazer se o grandão de rebelar.

Just imagine the problem if the big guy turn to rebel

This is so strange and sudden; seems like a random premise just to have a battle royale (I presume) on the island.
All those beheading sequences felt so impactless I almost thought these guys were made of plastic. At least the final scene with Gabimaru was nicely animated in contrast to the overall generic tone of the episode.

Sagiri's background and motivation is interesting enough, but I cannot say the same for all those other chars including Gabimaru (which seems a proper edgelord), at least for now.

I'll keep watching since it is fairly hyped, hope to be pleasantly surprised!

Good set up and mystery, anime only's just wait!! Loved the ending fight sequence. Seems Mappa may pull out their bag on this one.

Honestly Gabimaru is so relatable at this point… I too find my job job a pain in the ass but I’ll also consider tearing someone’s throat out if they get in my way of doing my job properly.

The best elements of this episode were definitely Sagiri's backstory, and "prisoners battle royale". About the latter, it's worth of mentioning how good looking are new characters. Well, I mean those who managed to stay alive and enter the boat to the Paradise island.
I also liked how, once again, we could see the brutality of Edo period, without romanticizing it as many works of art involving tend to do.

The weakest element was... Gabimaru. He gives me vibes of an edgelord. His behavior doesn't just look natural.

By the way, seeing the filter change all of sudden (from greyish to reddish colors) was bizarre. Given how Gabimaru's attack was a fast one, it was impossible for the Sun to set just like that, in the span of few seconds.

I understand why this is apart of the dark trio along with jujutsu kaisen and chainsaw man. Although I'm not sure if it will be as good as them, I am sure that this is gonna be a great anime to watch at least.

To see how Sagiri thinks about when she kills someone and how she rationalizes how Gabimaru does it is very interesting, seems like the show will get better moving forward.

Does it have to be this bloody? I don't know. The inner journey of the female executioner is pretty interesting, combined with the care-free attitude of the shogo dude, there are some interesting historic themes explored here.

ABSOLUTELY love to see the motivations behind the characters. Gabimaru, though possessing a large emotional hollow, is fighting for love and is willing to do anything he can to return to his wife, whom he loves dearly. Even though he aims to stop killing and live a peaceful life with his love, he has his priorities perfectly straight and is willing to cut people down for survival. It's relaxing to see that he didn't suddenly turn into a useless idealist when he decided to stop killing.

Sagiri aims to perfect her execution strike, to allow her to send off the condemned with utmost peace. The Yamada Asaemon executioners, including Sagiri, can decapitate with a single blow, which is an impressive feat; we were shown at the beginning of episode 1 that it's already challenging to decapitate in a single blow, which makes decapitation a painful execution method already. But that is still not enough for the execution to be painless; the pain & suffering of the condemned is repeatedly reflected in her blade.

Despite being unable to overcome her fear of killing, she sees a new path due to Gabimaru. Perhaps instead of trying to kill the fear inside, she should possess the resolve to carry the burden of the lives she claimed. This intrigues me; the executioner is merely the tool to perform the final blow and is not guilty of taking the life of the condemned. Then does it make sense for the executioner to carry the burden of their lives? Will Sagiri not be punched down courtesy of this burden if it goes on building up with more killings (like how Gabimaru turned hollow)?

Curious to see how the killings will occur in this show and, if it happens (most likely it will), how Sagiri deals with executing other inmates (and possibly Gabimaru too?) with her newfound approach.

Great game-rule-explaining episode, and I am excited for the game to begin :)
