Yorokobe Ishigami, join the Student Council and I'll be your bro forever. Romance can btfo BROmance is where it's at, that Shirogane, that light among the darkness, that savior of a fallen human bringing him hope and redemption, astonishing. How can there be NTR shit and revenge porn with 15 yo students ? I don't think that's common at all in junior high school especially in Japan and wasn't for me as well, more of a high school thing in my opinion. Also do not put violins when there is a fist beat up, it's so epic and feels like cheesy drama with this kind of music behind it. Oh yeah I forgot to mention this was god tier, when the cheerleading club got their eyes revealed to us it became the legitimate best justification of an usual lazy animation technique to achieve a magnificent storytelling climax instead. This man doesn't need a love interest, he just needs bros, female bros also count, friendship will save even the most depressed lurker in the end. |

Muh heart, muh soul that was so fucking great. They skipped some few scenes but, just minor nitpicks they can always include it in future seasons. But, damn A-1 did a fantastic job with this I have been waiting so long for this and it didn't disappoint. |

Absolutely loved this episode! This is why Ishigami is one of my favorite characters in this show. Easily the most relatable, so it's good to see what happened to him as well as how he surprassed it. Wish nothing but happiness for him, from here forwards. Happy Ishigami is love, happy Ishigami is life. |

He does that time and again when someone is at the bottom of the pit. Shirogane Miyuki is something else. I think his goodness will be returned someday when all these people he has saved will come to his rescue if he ever needed. But it hardly looks the case. I mean this guy is probably an amazing cook as the opening sequence suggests. He would probably even get Nakiri Erina in her babysuit after just the first try! LMAO! BlakexEkalb said: Wait, that’s what Shirogane wrote? I thought he wrote “Go to hell, dumbass”. At least, that was the translation I got from it. Probably just the translators trying to make the statement have more impact. More on this: I really dislike liberties such as this as the translators try to achieve. It was in the expense of Shirogane Miyuki's character. Shirogane is very picky about words or their use thereof. He is a goody boy. "Go to hell" is something very out of character for him. If I could explain in Japanese, he has a very refined way of talking which oozes nobility and it's very important in the stories narrative as to why he does that. The manga even jokes about it with one of the girls nearly faints seeing his noble aura lol. was slowly growing on Ishigami because he always came off as boarderline close to being a incel until he started to show off some of his good sides but this arc really served as a turning point for his character ,end of the day his act of pure selflessness to protect someone in return of only receiving hate is wild guy really is good just super socially awkward. though i can't say i'm happy we just left her remain ignorant with how many hands got involved with this ordeal like our good guy prez said there could've been a smarter way for him going about it in the end! final note i really liked the touch of him finally opening his eyes to see hey normie's can be good people too then to the reveal of their actual faces ,lol that one girl crying for him just made me happy just like seeing supportive groups and for that everyones a MVP today |

Look up the tankoubon version of chapter 89. It is indeed there thanks! I'm really in need of a reread :p This manga is getting pretty close to Gintama in GOATness. The more I read it, the more I am left awestruck and simply admire how many incredible number of details are left here and there throughout the story to give a more refined knowledge of everything no matter how insignificant it may seem, even if it is for background characters. I mean the Sutera flower is referenced again in a chapter that is devoid of Iino (chapter 88). The only thing we know that someone left the flower in Iino's desk and have a meaning behind it. Reinforcing again the fact that the person who left it in her desk was Ishii if it wasn't obvious after the chapter where Iino fondly talks about the flower and includes everyone of the student council in her StuCo Fantasy except for Ishii. Ishii wasn't even in that chapter yet it was titled "Thus Ishigami Yuu Closed His Eyes Part 2". The only thing that hurt my ship was how we get to see everyone shouting for Ishii but the Iino moment was rather powerful in the manga. In those first four pages, there was not a single dialogue but Ishii's monologue except for Iino's "You can do it, Ishigami" in a quiet voice and then we see in the middle of those who were booing Ishii Fujiwara jumps and shouts "Isn't Ishigami kinda pretty fast?". These two girls have shown utter detest toward him throughout the manga but when the world was trying to go against him, they took his side. |

I was hesitant at the start of the ep, as it seemed really depressing, but by the end I loved it. Although it was a serious episode and I didn't laugh heaps like most of the other ones it was really beautiful, even got me a bit teary eyed towards the end. A refreshingly different episode, and shining light on who might be the most relatable character of the student council members. |

Love how almost everyone at the festival is a hentai protagonist with their nondescript shaded eyes. I'm wondering why Ishigami didn't mention Ogino cheating after he beat him up and the entire class was against him? He had evidence of him cheating, right? Is it because he thought it would hurt Otomo and that her nudes or sex video would be leaked afterwards? Did Ogino have nudes or a sex video of her? Ishigami is a good guy but honestly, Miyuki is way better IMO. Here he comes from a poor background, becomes student council president, researches, supports and pulls Ishigami out of the pits of ostracism and believes him. He fought for someone he didn't know and succeeded. Shirogane best boy maddafakkas! Otomo is the dumbest character I've seen in this series so far. She's holding a grudge because her ex-boyfriend, who had revenge porn on his phone of her, dumped her? What a fucking imbecile. Ishigami can't be happy because she's no longer with her abusive ex? I wanted to see how Kaguya got Ogino out of the school though. I wanted to see him in absolute terror while in front of the ice queen. |

An amazing episode. I have been waiting forever for this arc to be adapted, and I was not disappointed. I was disappointed by the removal of Kaguya's scenes though. I kept waiting for them, since I think she as well played the part of secret MVP, and really shows you how cunning and terrifying Kaguya can be. I really wanted to see how Kaguya brought it to the Student Council's attention, how Kaguya worked behind the scenes in the shadows and used her influence on the powerful people in Shuchiin to force Ogino to move, and how Kaguya was contemplating mentioning what really happened to Otomo just to right how unjust the whole affair was and to see what sort of reaction she'd have after knowing the truth. But she resisted the urge because seeing Otomo's smile, even though it left a bad taste in her mouth, reminded her that Ishigami went through all that suffering to protect that smile, and if she broke it now it would destroy what Ishigami went through for. I really wished that could've been adapted, since it shows a lot about who Kaguya is and how unique her relationship with Ishigami is. It shows that Kaguya, the Ice-Cold Princess who was raised in the brutal and merciless Shinomiya household, can actually be a really good person with a sense of justice, even if it is expressed differently from Ishigami's. Kaguya brought it to the attention of the Student Council for what? It doesn't seem to benefit her at all, and that's the point. But her Shinomiya cunning and brutality shows in how she managed to influence the powerful students of Shuchiin to ostracise and force Ogino to quit. Not only that, it also shows what we will later see in the manga that Kaguya reflects the person she loves' personality. In this case, after she met and fell in love with Miyuki, she reflects more and more the kindness and sense of justice that Miyuki has. And that also shows how great their relationship is. As for her relationship with Ishigami, that would've shown how they reached such a relationship. Ishigami doesn't know that Kaguya did all she did, and Kaguya doesn't mention it either. Even though Kaguya can be 'mean' sometimes, deep down she really cherishes Ishigami as a kouhai and seeks to help and protect him, sort of like a brother-sister relationship. Not that I'm saying that this defeats how awesome the bromance between Miyuki and Ishigami is. It's just that Kaguya's parts were skipped, her roles were thus not shown in the anime, and that makes me kinda sad. Ishigami really could've handled it in a smarter way. But I admire him so much for basically sacrificing his reputation and his relationships (how little they were) with his classmates, including Otomo, to protect Otomo. When Miyuki burst in, mentioned all the facts related to the case that he had told nobody, and told him that in a way his actions did save Otomo from further suffering, it must've felt like somebody finally found him and pulled him out of the deep, dark hole he was in. This was the moment in the manga that I came to absolutely love Ishigami's character. That moment when Ishigami finally truly saw the faces of the members of the Cheering Squad was also wonderful. Props to the Student Council, including Iino's previously-mentioned role in trying to end Ishigami's suspension and silent rooting for him, for all that they have done and how amazing and good they are. I still hope that somehow, in the distant future, Otomo will learn the truth and appreciate what Ishigami did. It was an amazing adaptation of the arc. I was waiting for it so much. I am still sad that Kaguya's parts got cut out, so I can't give it a 10/10 (this episode I mean) because of how important that part was, but I will give it a 9.5/10! This adaptation remains strong and is a strong contender for my Anime of the Season against the current holder, Kakushigoto. Can't wait for the last episode next week, and here's hoping for a third season! For those who don't read the manga and are curious, the picture Ogino showed Ishigami was a sexually explicit (i.e. naked, I guess? or sexual at least) private picture of Otomo. Since Ogino and Otomo were in a relationship. Basically, Ogino was ready to pimp out his girlfriend like a prostitute or slave to protect his own reputation. I don't 100% remember it, so I could be wrong, but I do think this is indeed what it was. I don't even remember if we did see a blurred image or something. But I'm 80-90% sure it was this. |

holy shit words cannot describe how just bloody amazing this episode was, no this entire arc dedicated to Ishigami was. This episode itself i think was a really hidden gem in the Love is War anime, yes this anime does an amazing fucking job when it comes to humour, it dosent take it over the top and it actually does modern day references quite well. However when A-1 wants to do something serious and wants you to start crying uncontrollably, they fucking do it well. Never have i ever thought i would cry almost as much as i did when watching "Your name" for the first time. But credit given where credit is due, when A-1 wants to make an amazing done, emotional, dramatic, straight up fucking masterpiece background arc exclusively for one characters that most definitely deserves it the most, they fucking nail it. Hell these words don't even do Ishigami's background justice, A-1 has executed both the lead up to Ishigami's arc and the arc itself fantastically, we all got the gist that he did something pretty bad in his junior high school ever since Iino joined the counsel and hinted at it, but when delving into it, showing us it was more then a "simple fight" due to just a girl, showing us why he did it, the emotions he felt and the absolute fucking torment and just trauma and pain he went through after from others, while still holding onto what ever hope he had left was so fucking powerful, i can't word it properly why it just moved me to crying so much. I guess seeing how we always saw Ishigami as the super depressing, relatable to most of us neets was almost completely wrong. In reality his life is much fucking worst then what we thought. The best part about this was Shirogane suddenly putting, what i could you could call "a ray of sunshine" into Ishigami's life. I loved that scene. To that point i was going "holy fuck Ishigami is going through absolute hell, i would have fucking lost it" but then the unexpected Shirogane appearances made 100% sense to me. Only Shirogane knew what actually happened, and because of Shirogane characteristics, only Shirogane could of brought Ishigami to a new light, and to this day would explain why they are both good friends. All in all, if this arc episode doesn't show you that Love is war is capable at being able to flex between being a funny SOL when it wants to, and also a fucking super incriminating emotional masterpiece then i don't know what to tell you. "Go to hell, dumbass" well said Ishigami, well said. |

Eh... I'm not criticizing the episode but can I mention how useless Ishigami's parents were in this whole situation? Because God knows what I would have done if he were my son. I mean, Oogino not being able to perform at plays would be the last of his concerns. Anyways, spectacular episode overall. I already had a soft spot for Ishigami and obviously, knowing about his unfair life at middle-school made me empathize with his character even more. In this aspect, I'm really glad to see the author can handle teenage psychological drama this well. As for Ishigami, he's basically the definition of a hero without cape: totally unnoticed yet he did so much for such naive (and kinda stupid for letting his boyfriend record her while having sex but well, "adolescence") girl because he thought it was the right thing to do and I honestly couldn't be more proud of him. I also respect the fact of how loyal he remained to his values and that scene at the end with him smiling with such joy truly warms my heart. And by the way, I also have to mention just how beautiful the friendship between him and Miyuki is. President is such a bro and though clarifying Ishigami's situation was a group effort, I can't help but think about how many awesome interventions he had this season. Now, on a side note, I read some comments and it seems a certain amount of scenes showing Kaguya being the most involved in solving Ishigami's case were removed. Honestly, it's a bit disappointing to know this since it would have been nice to see more of this bond she's slowly starting to forge with her kouhai but well. Hopefully, next episode will address some of those scenes. Those Shuchiin VIPs left me feeling quite intrigued as well. |

-Stray said: It was so close to having the perfect adaptation but they removed Kaguya’s scenes, first her being the most involved in wanting to find out what happened with Ishigami during his expulsion, she was actually the one who kept on bringing it up to the stuco when it came to Ishigami, and then they also removed her last bit when she was planning to sadistically tell Ootomo the truth and wonder what kind of face she’d make when she does, Also her being the step in having Ootomo’s bf kicked out, those 3 parts were supposed to have a helping hand when it came to Kaguya and Ishigami’s supposedly weird brother sister relationship. Oh well... other than that it was an ok episode. Anyways, read the manga! wow thats a lot of things that got cut off, well not in literal pages but in content especially how it affected my perception of kaguya. i feel like i got treated like ootomo after reading this comment lol. id surely read the manga after this season still a top tier episode tho. despite having it rough in the past, ishigami sure is blessed to have both members of the student council and cheer leading club be part of his life 10/10 100/10 (wouldve been if the left out parts were included) |

I was a little sad because they didn't mention what happened to Ogino like they do in the Manga, also I think that the music could be a little better used throughout this episode, nothing that really make a dent on the quality of the show. It is a shame though that Funimation is again trying to be "creative". When Funimation is not incompetent they are just lazy, their translation gets a 5 ou of 10 from me. Still it is possible that this episode was the greatest episode of the entire series, Shinichi Omata is one of the best anime directors of all time, he knows how to use the camera, the color, the light, the details of the character design, everything. Aka Akasaka is one of the best storytellers, Aka has so much care with his world and characters maintaining consistency and giving details that I like to compare him with Tolkien. The entire staff, you could criticize some choices of them here and there, but something that no one can say is that they are not giving their best. To me Kaguya is already the best of the year, steamrolled the competition (with the exception of Eizouken, that anime was good enough to put up a fight), Kaguya is one of the best of all time and deserves to be among the top 25 in MAL. |

Such a great episode, I absolutely loved every second of it. It was adapted so well, although they did cut out the parts about Kaguya pushing the stuco to get involved in the Ishigami case and how she helped get Ogino transferred to god knows where. Kinda wished we got to see that get animated since it kinda helps with the whole senpai/kōhai relationship between Ishigami and Shinomiya. But other than that A-1 did such an amazing job adapting the chapters in this episode. Probably one of my favorite episodes in the series, And shout out to Shirogane for just being the best. I really like how they didn't include the OP in this ep to further show how serious this ep was, and Ishigami being able to see the other student's faces was done really nicely, both artistically and symbolically, and seeing it animated totally reminded me of Koe no Katachi. Can't stress how good this episode was, 10/10 |

This chapters, this episode... this ineffable tale about school depression... It destroyed me from the inside and made a way out trough an enormous hole in my hearth. Im not only sensible for Ishigami-kun, but also shock that a fucking anime would touch those topics in such a deep fashion, almost as if the autor himself went trough it in his high school years. Im not sure if I want to read the manga after this, but god dam. This made me realise im so glad i have buddies that know and feel with me like Shirogane did to Ishigami. Love it. |

@Shikkakku: I agree that it should have been shown to some degree. But that whole instigation has another meaning though. Kaguya at that time was slowly changing from being the Ice Kaguya to the current Kaguya and her real purpose of becoming the VP was to unmask the fraud Shirogane Miyuki by testing him. Irrespective of her genuine intention of helping Ishii, bringing up Ishii's case to the StuCo was her way of seeing how Miyuki would react. Ultimately, these little schemes failed one after the other as she gave up and she realized Miyuki was not anything like she wanted him to turn out to be. And as time passed, Miyuki's goodness won her over and she fell in love with him. She mentions about testing Miyuki countless times, and failing to find flaws in him in each occasion, and specifically finding the most beautiful thing about him that he never leaves anyone behind who needs help. His intentions are always pure and he seeks nothing in return. Just like she mentions to Hayaska after admitting that she is in love with Miyuki. When they are walking in a group, and someone is walking a bit behind, he will turn around and go to that person to check on them. The profile of the face that turns to help others without having anything to gain for, the genuine person that is the StuCo President - Shirogane Miyuki - is who she has fallen madly in love with. That was Kaguya's raw emotion for Miyuki as she wept in Hayasaka's arms. Falling in love with this genuine Miyuki was also killing her on the inside. What if he is just nice to her like he is to everyone else? How could he come to like someone twisted like her who has always found a twisted way of gaining favor in return of helping someone? That is why the Ishigami Yuu case is one of the most important events in the main romance as it is directly tied to things that made Kaguya fall in love with Miyuki in the first place. This is supported by the fact that Ishigami Yuu case was probably one of the very first real tests Kaguya gave Miyuki as it was pretty close to the time the StuCo led by Miyuki was first formed. Edit: corrected content inside the spoiler by striking out wrong theory. |

The OST, the animation, the voice acting was top notch. The staff really gave their all when making this episode. I wasn't expecting certain scenes in this episode to be so good. The scene where Ishigami finally changes his point of view and realizes that not all normies are bad was so fucking good. 10/10 episode for me. |

Bibimbapski said: Otomo is the dumbest character I've seen in this series so far. She's holding a grudge because her ex-boyfriend, who had revenge porn on his phone of her, dumped her? What a fucking imbecile. Ishigami can't be happy because she's no longer with her abusive ex? I've seen some people hating on Ootomo but you can't blame her because she basically did nothing wrong. She had zero knowledge of what was actually going on since Ishigami refused to tell his side of the story and just kept quiet in order to protect Ootomo. She even had no idea about her ex-bf keeping porn of her or what kind of person Ogino actually was. From her perspective, a classmate she got along with one day suddenly got violent towards her bf and was seen as a crazy guy, so it's logical why she's holding a grudge on Ishigami. |

I was really hoping for the Kaguya scenes as well. But I'm guessing they removed them for one of two reasons: 1. the producers really wanted to highlight Yuu's perspective - this explains why Miko's defense of Yuu was moved to episode 10 as well 2. the producers wanted to soften up Kaguya's image - frankly, in the manga, she's legit terrifying at times - and the producers didn't really want to wade into the subtleties of Kaguya's personality in such little time (they might revisit this scene in a later episode in a season 3/4. Good point. Both points make a lot of sense. For point 1, I don't remember but was Miko's defence shown in this arc too? For point 2, I completely agree that at times Kaguya is really terrifying. It's cool, but it's terrifying. Here's hoping we do have a season 3, or even 4, and we get to see more of Kaguya's complex personality animated! |

shanimebib said: @Shikkakku: I agree that it should have been shown to some degree. This is supported by the fact that Ishigami Yuu case was probably one of the very first real tests Kaguya gave Miyuki as it was pretty close to the time the StuCo led by Miyuki was first formed. I completely forgot to take into account that Kaguya came into the Student Council because of a desire to unmask Miyuki's supposed "real" personality. You shed quite a light on that. But I've completely forgotten: did Kaguya specifically explicitly mention in that arc, or maybe in another point in the manga, that her bringing Yuu's case to the Student Council was a test for Miyuki? And if it was near the formation of the Student Council, why does Kaguya already have her hair tied up in a ponytail? Wasn't her hair still let down like the Ice Queen Kaguya until she started to soften up? I might misremember this too, though, with how far the manga has moved. |
