Excellent episode, perfect mix of action and raw emotion. I'm actually might say this is the best anime episode I've seen.
Just shows Dekus a real hero, saves a fellow hero by making him finally accept himself as he is, not what his father wants to be so he could be the best he can be at the risk of his own career. 5/5 hands down.

Ehhh but it looks like he melted it all away at from 20:00 to 20:03

Edit: In the image you posted, aren't those walls of concrete set by the ref to reduce impact from both sides.

There was still ice around him after the collision.

And yes the walls were erected by Cementoss to reduce the impact and save their lives.

She did blame him because of her hate for Endevour, just because he looked like Endevour and had had the fire power like him, that obviously meant it was Todoroki fault. She proceeded to scar him for life and abandon him.

She didn't blame him, she snapped and she regretted it, as you will see in a few episodes. Do you not understand what mental disabilities are? Furthermore, she didn't abandon him she was placed in a mental hospital and out of custody.

I'm a manga reader i know about the future meet up, she did blame him she looked at Endeavor and Todoroki as the same in that moment she threw boiling water in his face, it would be understandable if Todoroki attacked her but he was helpless.

I'm aware of the mental disabilities thanks. Yes your right she was placed in her mental hospital she was planning to abandon him that was my point.

The fight was incredible, not only from an action standpoint. Character development was absolutely intense.
The one thing i absolutely hate, is that Deku will get no credit for pushing one of the strongest to his maximum, even though everyone saw exactly what he was able to do.

I freaking hate the other pro heroes for only looking at the winners side.

Ok, I'm saying it: Midoriya vs Todoroki is probably one of the best anime fights EVER MADE.
It has everything: action, backstories, character developement, still leaves you in hype even tho you know for sure, deep inside your mind, from the beginning to the very end, that Todoroki was going to win anyway.
The animation and the soundtrack were absolutely perfect and they adaped the whole episode in the literal best way possible.
Endeavor went from being a total piece of shit to being proud of his son. Todoroki gave up his irrational hate against his power to go all in, incited not by his father but by his own opponent and his master (Midoriya & All Might). Even Izuku knew he would've renounced to the victory by inspiring Todoroki and he did it anyway.
In short... this episode was pure gold. 5/5

Most hyped episode so far BUT IT SURE DID PAY OFF
Midorya was right and the last clash was fantastic
I can't believe how easily they destroyed 2 of their elders techniques, when these kids grow up they might eradicate all evil
I am so glad for Todoroki.I like Midorya but Todoroki is truly my favorite character, always cool and quiet but strong as fuck.i AM SO GLAD HE WENT ALL OUT.

She wasn't abandoning him. She said she felt like she shouldn't raise him anymore, and she was right. She was mentally unstable, and mentally unstable people are not fit to raise children. She would be right to leave him to someone more competent. And again, she did not blame him. She looked over to the door, saw his left side which to her looks like the monster that abused both her and her children for years and snapped. It wasn't premeditated. It was impulsive. We saw how loving she was to Todoroki prior to that. She protected him from being abused by his father. She supported him and told him he could be whatever he wanted to be. She showed him videos of All Might which we can assume were the only images of a male role model Todoroki ever had in his childhood. If she wasn't loving to him Todoroki wouldn't love his mother, now would he? He would hold her in the same regard he does Endeavor. His mother simply snapped due to her deteriorated mental health after years of physical and emotional abuse and she shouldn't blamed for that or even compared to Endeavor's actions which were all premeditated from the moment he gave up on beating All Might and isntead chose to raise a soldier to do it for him.

Just one question. When Todoroki's mother was talking on phone, she mention "children" and we saw some kids playing in a scene, so is it safe to assume Todoroki have siblings?

Yes, those were his siblings. He has two brothers and one sister. His mother's role was basically just to have children for Endeavor in the hopes that a child would be born with 50% ice and 50% fire, like Todoroki. As you can tell from the hair colours of the others, they don't have the combination Endeavor was looking for, so they are deemed as failures.

well if we're speaking in what ifs, if Todoroki was going 100 percent from the jump while midoriya was still trying to figure him out Todoroki would have won pretty quickly.

Also factor in that Cementoss put up all those barriers that interfeared with both of their final attacks ..

Great episode, we were all waiting for.
But it's still ok if Midoriya lost, because Todoroki is on a different level.
Remaining episodes of this season now aren't worth watching i guess, damn :(

But Midoriya is way stonger, if he has serious from the start he would win asap
Deku is considerably weaker actually. Though he has a really strong quirk he still doesn't know how to use it properly and just wrecks his body over and over agian. Todoroki on the other hand has complete control over his powerful quirks and has been through martial training for most of his life while Deku has only a few months of proper training. Objectively speaking Todoroki is vastly superior and is hands down the strongest in Class A which gets noted and even Deku acknowledges this as fact. Sure Deku has more potential, but right he isn't on Todoroki's level and won't be for quite awhile.

If you read the manga you would know she outright said she doesn't feel to take care of Todoroki and she reminded him of Endevour. The build up hate and frustration she proceeded to permanently scar him to show she doesn't care about him anymore or even want to look at him, in essence she couldn't cope with the sight with him.

You got a haven't a leg to stand on, now if she had a moment of hesitation or was forced to do it you would maybe have a point. As she turned she looked at him with disgust and injured no matter how you wrap it's still abuse.

I read the manga. The translations in the online scans are not accurate. Watch the episode or even look at the raws. She never said she would abandon him, she said she can't and shouldn't raise him anymore, just like what was said in the anime. The anime translations are the official word-for-word translations of what she said. Buy a volume of MHA online and read Viz's official translations. She never said she intended to abandon her children, only that she couldn't raise them anymore, and she was right. She was mentally unstable, she wasn't fit to raise her children anymore. She does care for her children, and that is something Horikoshi explicitly shows in Todoroki's flashback. The only negative reaction she showed was after being abused for years which took a toll on her mental health. She wasn't in her right mind. A parent doesn't just hate their own child they have shown to love and care for. The attack wasn't premeditated, she snapped. You're trying to demonise a victim of physical and mental abuse, and its not making a lick of sense.

I've read the manga and the official translations, she outright started she can't raise Todoroki and wanted to leave, she did care for her children past sense but like I said before her anger and frustration against Endeavor she unleashed on Todoroki. Horikoshi wouldn't show the scene of her on phone if he did want to convey at that point she had enough of Endevour and that Todoroki was no different in here eyes as she saw husband when she looked Todoroki.
There are plenty of cases were parents have killed and harmed their children they previously cared for so your logic doesn't hold up.

Your trying to excuse and uplift a abuser try again. Are you hearing you yourself right now lol so if stab someone even though it wasn't premeditated I'm innocent now. Even so she already pointed her disgust for Todoroki she was eventually going to harm him.

Dude. She's mental (cause of endeavor). Endeavor is sane. He abused todoroki far more.

You don't have a leg to stand on. You say you understand mental disorders but you continuously ignore her screwed up mental state, that, once again, she wouldn't even have if it wasn't for endeavor.

That was godlike animation and hype, bravo. I had to rewatch that last clash like 5 times it was so beautiful. This was the first time Deku felt like a true badass the whole fight with a gameplan and some control of his power instead of just crying and worrying about his power half the fight and it was great, looking forward to his development going forward.

Found this more interesting and fun to watch than All Might vs Noumu tbh, Todorokis powers are just so epic compared to just punching dudes super hard which All Might vs Noumu mostly was. Can't wait to see what fights will look like by the end of the series with everyone at full potential. Haven't read the manga, after the first season I thought this was just a pretty good shounen but damn this season is so much more, so much better.

What do you mean by "gives you the right?"

Obviously the act of throwing boiling water was wrong, bar none. That isn't the point. The discussion is about how much blame she has given she has such an unstable mental state. Its not that those that are abused "should", thats not what anybody said at all.

This is a discussion much deeper then "lol she's an abuser", She may have some blame, but its debatable how meaningful that blame is when you take into account her situation. Intention on some level, does matter (at least IMO), and further this does not equal killing someone, so your compairsion earlier with "not intending to kill doesn't mean you are absolved from blame" falls flat.

Even Todoroki himself doesn't blame her, he specifically guns for his father the entire time. If we, for some reason, have to split blame, we know where the majority of it goes, and it ain't on his mother lol.

What can I really say? An amazing episode from beginning to end with great production value as well as very good characterization for both Midoriya and Todoroki. That final sequence was fantastic.

While I don't expect anything from the rest of the tournament to top this fight, I definitely am still interested to see the upcoming fights. This episode in particular though was easily a knock out of the park, bravo Studio Bones.

The much awaited fight between Midoriya and Todoroki and...it absolutely did not disappoint at all! Todoroki's backstory was sad when it was talked about earlier this season but seeing it in flashbacks you really get the scope of his struggles growing up and why he is the way he is now! Midoriya gives it everything he's got but in the end Todoroki is too powerful when using both his ice and fire! I'm so glad that they didn't follow the generic shounen trope of the mc winning in fights they are clearly outmatched in just because of plot armor. Midoriya loses the fight but he was able to help Todoroki find himself and he found a new limit for himself too! It was hyped to the max and it lived up to the hype for sure! I can't wait to see what happens next...
I shall rule over the realms of anime and manga! Mwahhahahahaha!!!

When did I say Endevour doesn't take most of the blame, alot people are looking on a superficial level because Endevour abused her that somehow absolves for all responsibility from physically harming her child. I just said she should take some of the blame, of course Todoroki wouldn't blame her because mothers can do no wrong she could have attempted to kill him he would still justify it.

is the blame she has anywhere worth being meaningful enough to start a debate over? Is the semantical debate over the fact she has at least _some_ control over her actions, really worth it given the circumstances? I know she's not a real person so it technically doesn't matter, but I'd hope you don't act like this when dealing with real victims of abuse.

I guess I'm just miffed you didn't also respond to the person that called the mother the real villain (damn hoping its a joke) and instead choose to debate and argue over something that arguably doesn't mean very much in the grand scheme of things, even if it's technically true on some level.

also mothers "can do no wrong" to explain why todoroki doesn't blame her...Come on, that's assuming the authors biases way to much, and I don't think theres any evidence to support this inside this story outside of some warped understanding of gender roles.

EDIT: I apologize if I'm making dumb assumptions, I admit that I'm being really lazy in this debate. Blech. Should have worded my first post better to encompass the entire debate instead of just picking that part out and attempting to pwn.

MAN MIDORYA WAS SO CLOSE. I wish it was a tie. Excellent episode and the fight scenes got me really hyped. Animation and the throwback scenes were all amazing.

With this episode anime is saved. One of the best episodes of anything I have seen in a long time.

Midoriya was a madman in this episode! Kept breaking his broken fingers.

The characterisation and development for Todoroki was beautiful!

This moment was crazy!

When did I say Endevour doesn't take most of the blame, alot people are looking at on a superficial level because Endevour abused her that somehow absolves for all responsibility from physically harming her child.

So now I'm too blame now lol. I made a comment and was bombarded with replies now if I started addressing comments first then you would have a point. People have problem if you look at things from a different perspective now I'm a target lol, i just merely stated my reasons.

No she's not villain, believe or not I don't think Endevour is that much a villain though if they were to reveal background tries to make him sympathetic to why he turned out the way he did. I'd still say it doesn't change or doesn't justify the horrible things he has done unlike some people on here (not talking about you) I'm consistent.

Okay we're cool, in retrospect I feel really bad for jumping that post and not considering the rest of the context (as I explained in an edit). Certain gendered complaints you have I still don't agree with, but I've embarrassed myself enough as it is. I'm obviously not in the best state of mind to start an intellectually honest debate right now. lmao.

Damn, it;s finally here and it was glorious. One of the best moments from the manga imo and Bones adapted it so well. Best episode of the season thus far. Todoroki finally accepted his fire power and ended up winning in the end. It still sucks the way his dad treated him as a kid. I just felt bad for him all around.

The fight was greatly animated, Bones just went all out to make it the best fight so far, especially towards the end with that sasuga animation. Can't wait for next episode.

Don't worry about it's fine it's good to have these debates sometimes, funny enough you were the one that was making the most sense as well understanding where I was coming from even if you didn't entirely agree with me. So you have nothing to be embarrassed about.

I never thought my opinions of this series would change so quick. I thought S1 was pretty cool but S2 is simply jaw dropping amazing! I can't wait for more eps!
