| Honestly, I didn't think this episode was that bad, or out of left field. The distance between the team and 02 has always been present, and with Ichigo as the team leader and baised against 02, the seeming overreaction of forcing her and Hiro apart makes sense for her character, as does the team going along with it (at first, anyway). Goro being the first to speak out against her makes sense, since he's not only shown to be the more mature and level-headed of the bunch, but also with Hiro out of the picture that leaves Ichigo "available" (she may not reciprocate now, but I totally can see him still holding out hope at that time). Hiro has a pattern of finding answeres for himself when an obstacle is in his way, so him escaping to talk to her fits perfectly in line with what we've seen. Later, him calling 02 a monster also makes sense at that moment, because he's shocked, angry, and scared for his friends; right now it looks as though 02's killed them and is going to kill Ichigo, so I don't blame him for lashing out in the slightest. And Ichigo's confession at the end also makes perfect sense for her, now that 02 is "out of the way," and she's never reciprocated Goro's affections for her in the first place. As a first impression, the biggest issue I have with this episode is that they let 02 see Hiro at the same time he happened to have escaped to see her. That coincidence does feel contrived, but it's not a story-ruining issue for me. |
