Someone should make a rhythm game out of that ending lol

I still do feel the same about episode 2 as episode 1. None of the supporting cast are particularly memorable in any way, even the clearly non-background Kamiya feels kinda muted somewhat. We really need to deviate from over-playing the misfortune card soon.
I'm not a lolicon, you're just projecting your tendency to lewd 2D characters.

If your favourite character is Tsutsukakushi Tsukiko, you are my soul mate.

Been a long time since I've been here, I'll continue expressing myself freely and believe everyone should too.

Pretty decent episode, but still not completely sold on this anime yet, as I would like to see more from the male mc because right now he seems like kind of a plot device to make shikimori look good. I am hoping that we learn more about him soon and also that he starts to develop as a individual character.

Yep, my concern still exists after watching the second episode. All they do is change up her eyes and call it "cool". What is meant to be the best part, the selling point of the series, is a bit of a let down. Especially toward the end there where she got jealous. Seriously? That's not cool, that's lame. I also still don't understand this whole bad luck thing going on with the ML. It honestly seems so unnecessary so far.

I really am trying to like this series, but it's really not doing a whole lot for me. It's not bad, but it's also not that good either. Still looking for something to hook me. Will give it one more episode. If I am not hooked by the 3rd, then it's probably never going to get there for me.

Yooo is it just me or do I resonate with this anime so damn good. As a fellow overthinker myself, having someone like Shikimori around is actually life saving and me oh my what does Shikimori do most of the time, save this mans life... literally sometimes.

This episode was sooo good, I get to see the super gorgeous angry cool Shikimori during her volleyball game and it can't be just me who squealed right?

Totally understanding Izumi's thoughts right now, he don't do much for Shikimori when she does a lot for him but they both are just so adorable together it makes my heart melt!

Oh to have someone like Shikimori <3

I think their point is less about being a wimp, and more about him not acting like a 15-16 year old person would.
Sure, he can be more clumsy type of guy, but sometimes the anime treats him like a 5 year old, especially the second episode.
I read some chapters of the manga way before the anime was announced, and I don't remember him being that way in the manga though.

Don't think you need to overthink it like the next best plot/character progression. At least it feels like a one shot that you have to enjoy without thinking.

People seem to overthink it in comments though. Of course there are problems if you consider going for more than 12 episodes, just enjoy it.

The "cute" boyfriend scene was funny ahah

Surprise Izumi not just a bland mc, since he's also slow & retarded. In Komi they talk about disorders so that's ok, but better if they explain mc's backstory, maybe brain damage with that scar. Otherwise he is cute, and the role reversal can work at times.
ep2 at least quite funny, and nice Bakugo shielding his best bro. Volleyball was animated well too.

Still normal episode for me, nothing interesting. Don't know why people saying shikimori's a best waifu.... She is great but something lacks....
She's jealous of her own friend.... The dude protecting her bf, but she's angry/jealous...
And the match look so bland...

I don't think you're supposed to laugh at him falling down, it's more like the wind that slowly blows the ball out of the way is the "joke" because him falling is more like "shit here we go again" than something that should actually elicit a laugh. At least, that's my rational viewpoint, I have no idea what the creative team is thinking, a bunch of this bad luck stuff is not in the manga at all.
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.

Okay you all, I have some femboy characters I like, but Izumi is just... not for me. First episode was disappointing for me; it was bland. I've finally had the time to watch the second episode, and now I can see the appeal of this show for some people.

Question, is the anime too quiet for anyone else? I find this show is lacking in terms of background music.

Edit: Forgot to mention this, but the comedy is just bad.

Genuinely asking, how does Shikimori keep helping Izumi if the bad lucks aren't in the manga?

The volleyball match made Shikimori popular, and poor Izumi had bad luck in the soccer match. Shikimori was jealous that he was close with Inuzuka xd. It was good, Shikimori looked very pretty in the uniform.

I don't know what it is, just the way she executes her shit, but just about every time Yui is doing something I find myself laughing. Her character just seems to click with me. It's those damned dead eyes of hers, they callin' me.

I actually think this series is pretty brilliant for what it is. For the longest, longest time there has been that troupe of "helpless anime girls are cute." They can't do hardly anything for themselves, even tripping over nothing at times. They need to be sheltered and protected. It's something I've always hated -- It's not cute that you can't do the most basic shit. It's annoying. Learn to walk for yourself your lazy assholes.

Anyway, I digress, now they took that and flipped it and made the boy useless and cute, and the girl is the strong cool one. They even give Shikamori that piercing gaze that's been so bogarted by male characters in the past. In a way, it's practically a satire of the egregiously overabundance of those types of female characters.

All that being said, I think this was a stronger episode than the previous one. So, at this point, I'm going to remain fairly optimistic that I'll enjoy this series.

Yeah this show feels like watching a Yuri romcom lol. I get it, not every guy needs to be macho or cool or whatever, but Izumi is literally a girl in a boy's body. The scene where he puffs his cheeks out and says "Don't tease me~~~!" like a girl when he's in the nurses office is just, omfg dude.

Good, down with gender roles. This anime is a breath of fresh air, and unsurprisingly close-minded bigots are enraged by it. Everyone should be free to be who they are, not forced to act a certain way and persecuted for not doing so because of an accident of birth.

The roles aren't all that reversed though. She's barely a tomboy, and he's just a massive, irredeemable pansy. It's like watching a lesbian couple. They should've just had him date that blond hair dude and made this a BL show lol, that would've made more sense. Literally no reason for Izumi to have a girlfriend.

By the same logic, there's no reason for the lesbians you describe to have girlfriends either. Luckily Japan seems to be a bit more forward-thinking than the West where people think a man being feminine or a woman being masculine means they must be gay.

Straight couples don't play by all of the same rules and expectations as gay/lesbian couples, don't know what else to tell ya. In real life, Izumi would be one of those nerdy incel virgin type dudes. If he was gay/lesbian he'd probably be a twink/lipstick-lesbian and the LGBTQ+ community would be head over heels for him. I didn't make the rules, that's just generally what I've observed from the many relationships and people I've met in my life.

Also I don't get that bit about Japan being more forward thinking lol, they're still much more traditional that any western country. They're just more open to making whatever jokes and comedy they want, which this is. You could say this show is just the result of a herbivore man's wish that a girl as high quality as Shikimori could ever love someone as weak as them.

You're right about the majority of straight couples unfortunately but I'm a femboy and in a relationship and know other femboys who are dating women. That said, nearly all of the women I've dated have been bi so I'd agree that straight women generally aren't into feminine men, but that's not all women.

It's odd because I agree that Japan outwardly appears more traditional, but Japanese media seems much more willing to question norms than Western media. Something like Shikimori couldn't be made in the West. Maybe it's because there's less pressure for manga to appeal to a wide audience so they don't have to pander to the conceptions of the masses as much.

the getting hit with the ball is hilarious
and I'm with the fan girls on this one she looks so hot when she puts her hair up like that

Sum:
sports festival and shikimori does girls volleyball and Izumi goes to cheer her on and she does her best and looks super cool and wins. She wins and gets a bunch of fan girls and doesn't get to spend too much time with Izumi. In exchange Inuzuka protects Izumi in exchange and shikimori gets a little jealous.

goddamn... the ball was nice enough to probably freeze frame before hitting Izumi, he even had the time to be warned, and he still got it. Ok.

Too bad this part was focused on two sports i don't like (even if volley deserves surely more respect than the other one). Important hair bun, and she wins. i would have preferred to watch basketball, however, obviously.

"What's your name?" i thought everyone was aware. Oh, well, it was unexpected and nice that the girls didn't look down on Izumi as it seemed obvious.

Inuzuka took it like a boss, but come on, how could a volleyball reach them like it did?

Nevertheless, the ending is sweet and i'm looking forward for more.
