Wow, this one was so cool! I love how the river of light connects to other things in this series, here mimicking the Milky Way. And the idea of cosmic mushi is really interesting too; I felt so much like a person in a big field looking at stars (both because that was what was happening but also because of awesome revelations like these). The story about accepting people was great, some real expressionist stuff, and I am glad that it came to be a positive ending.

I see I wasnt that impressed with this episode over a decade ago. My rating was 4/5 and my comment was like whatever.

But watching it now, just blew me away. The comparison of Komakyu (river of light) with the spiral of stars at night was so cool. The idea of Mushi being part of the Yin and rising to meet Yang at the boundary....having read Taoism recently, was something that really tickled me. I also loved the stargazing theme, being recently interested more in space and sci-fi, and the beauty of everyday scientific phenomenon.

Above all, though, I love how Ginko tells the guy that to be truly herself, Yuki needs to feel "human". She needs to be accepted for who she is, even if she is eccentric and "atypical" for everybody. IT just fucking gutted me because this is how I've been feeling in all my relationships and most of my social life. To be seen and accepted by the ones we love is one of our driving forces. Being rejected and feeling invisible SUCKS. I understand the disconnection Yuki felt, which was symbolically manifested in her flying away again and again.

5/5
Another S-Tier episode.
"...our faces marked by toil, by deceptions, by success, by love; our weary eyes looking still, looking always, looking anxiously for something out of life, that while it is expected is already gone – has passed unseen, in a sigh, in a flash – together with the youth, with the strength, with the romance of illusions.” - Joseph Conrad ('Youth')
