Part 9: Understanding Sykes 101: Whit = what hwat, hwo, hwere, ext... = what, who, where, ext... ye = you nae, dae, tae = no, do, to dinnae, cannae, isnae = don't, can't, isn't ah = I baw=ball heed=head af, aff = of, off oot = out kip = nap/sleep shite = shit aboot = about ken = know Due to the nature of the character she uses a lot of Scottish slang that isn't supposed to be easily understood, as such much of her insults and slang words have been purposefully left out, this guide is more just a general translation of her accent. Not exactly what I was expecting when Lauren assured me they'd get me sorted out in Alnor. Tossed into a holding cell like some criminal to be left here until Lauren realized what happened and got things sorted out. I would mind terribly if it weren't for one simple fact. I wasn't alone. In the corner of the barren room was a figure sitting against a wall with one of the large sack cloth sheets wrapped around him or her like a cloak. Completely obscuring his or her whole general appearance minus a few odd wisps of white smoke coming out of the holes. All I knew was the person was a criminal, and that was enough to be wary of the figure. Thankfully it seemed to be asleep or something as it hadn't stirred or made a single sound since I got in here. The meeting couldn't take too long... I hoped, I would just sit on this bench and wait until... *CRASH!* The whole makeshift bench gave out right from under me, sending it and me slamming into the stone ground, the thunderous noise echoing off every wall of the cell. Unfortunately it turns out cellmate isn't exactly a heavy sleeper. "Oy! Whits goin' on here!" She (or at least it sounded like a she, albeit a very deep and rough voiced she) yelled as she sprang up, still holding her makeshift cloak around her. "Eh?... Ah, hwat ye think ye daein' ye bawheeded bastart!? Cannae ye see ahm tryin' tae get me some kip?" I could barely understand her accent when she spoke that fast, though I could tell it sounded Scottish. I think the gist was she was mad that I woke her up. "S-sorry, the bench just gave out" I tried explaining. "Dae ah look like ah give a shite that yer fat arse broke the plank? Nae laddie... Hell, is ye bones steel or somethin' laddie? I could pick my teeth with ye." She said, now sounding more annoyed than angry, though thankfully slowing down her words to a semi-understandable level. She seemed to stretch in her cloak, letting out a loud yawn, before sitting back down on. "So, whit ye in fer?" Oh shit, that was the question that could kill me right there! If this woman is a hardened criminal and she finds out my background is free of any major criminal activity I was as good as dead. I had to figure something out and I had to do it fast. "Some guy bumped into me, bastard thought he could get away with that without an apology so I bashed his head in right there in the streets." That sounded convincing enough, I wasn't exactly the strongest looking guy but I figured so long as I sounded confident she would... "Bashed his heed in eh?... Toaty little man like ye couldn't bash in a rats heed. Nae, yer greener than a hags teeth." Oh shit, this was it, no use trying to save my own hide now. Maybe stalling her until Lauren got her would save me. "A-alright, you got me, how I ended up here is actually a bit of a funny story. You see..." "Keep yer stories tae yerself ye knob, I dinnae care. Ah figure ah only got me aboot a day 'til they drag me oot there an' take my napper right aff." She poked her left hand out of her makeshift cloak, an odd misshapen thing. Much like a blood red version of Deneva's scaled and clawed hand, only the middle finger and pinkie seemed fused together at the bone itself (keep in mind she only had three fingers naturally). The flesh twisted, warp, and bare save for a few small scaled jutting out here and there, the rest of the hand however appearing normal. "Chop!" She exclaimed, pivoting her hand down for emphasis, "an' that'll be the end af poor auld Catharine Sykes. Speakin' af hwich whit's yer name? Figure ah might as well try an' make a friend tae join me hwen ah go tae the heedman's block." "My name's Michael," maybe this wasn't going to be as bad as I- "Wait what!?..." "Michael huh?... Not a great name, dinnae roll aff the tongue how ah'd like. Whit's yer family name?" She asked, completely ignoring my own question. "Ross, now what was that about joining you at the headman's block?" "Ross? Ross, Ross... Aye, that rolls aff the tongue much better." Seems like my questions would get me nowhere, at least not anywhere related to potential execution. I was sure Lauren would get me out of here before it came to that as well so I just decided to keep making conversation. "So, what are you in for?" "Whit am ah in fer! The fuck ye think ahm in fer laddie? I'm fuckin' Sykes!" Both her hands visible now outside of the cloak, her right hand lacking any of the deformities of her left. She quickly reached up and tossed off the 'hood' of the rag. Red hair somewhat darker than her scales, skin that looked slightly sun burnt but was probably just a natural shape for her species, red finned ears and fire orange eyes. But all of that was secondary to... Other details. Namely a partial unilateral cleft lip making a constant show of a few of her teeth and gums and a left eye with severe ptosis, and though I couldn't quite put my finger on it something seemed off about her teeth. Though I got the feeling she wasn't just trying to get an opinion on how she looked. Obvious her appearance and that name were supposed to mean something, and probably did to anyone who'd been here for any amount of time. But sadly I was a new comer to this strange land. "I'm not really familiar with the goings on around here," I said as carefully as I could, trying not to insult the woman who I was obviously supposed to be impressed by. "Hwat?!... Tourist ey? Shite, leave it tae me tae get stuck with the dobber right before ah die." She said, rubbing her forehead and sighing loudly. "Well listen up ye wanker. Ahm wanted in every region on this fuckin' shite stain af an Island, a right solid minger ah am. I killed hwere ah wanted an' stole hwat ah wanted, an' ah didnae give a single shite. Wasnae anyone on this hwole rock hwo could take me in a cut-up an' live!" She proudly exclaimed, seeming a little too enthusiastic about her crimes. "Than how did you get caught?" I asked... Why the fuck did I ask that? She could have killed me for that. "A-ah was jumped by some af them Talon Company cunts! Dinnae get me wrong, ah could af taken them but they ganged up on me when ah was... Catchin' a kip!" "Uh-huh?..." I was trying to die, that was the only explanation, my subconscious wanted me dead. "The fucks that mean!" She yelled, standing up and tossing away her rag, giving me a good look of her whole body. She was wearing a loose fitting prisoners shirt that practically hung off her frame and nothing else. For the most part she seemed like the lizard girl upstairs, three fingered clawed hands that had scales going from them and blending into skin about mid upper arm, feet looking much the same only a small toe hanging mid-calf on the leg instead of thumbs. She wasn't all that big really, maybe slightly above the height of an average woman, and her body didn't look necessarily strong but she was fairly lean... Minus a large concentration of 'fat' around her chest area. But the most striking this was her long tail covered in a lightly burning flame, shooting out embers and light white smoke as it waved around. "Oy!... OOOOOY!... UP HERE!" She yelled, finally getting my attention. "S-sorry, I'm just not used to seeing non-human peo-" I quickly tried to explain but was quickly cut off. "Shut yer gob! Listen..." I heard what she was focusing on, the clanging of armour. All I knew was I'd been around Lauren enough to know what her massive armour sounds like, and enough to know what only a single suit sounds like. You really think I'd write a story without at least one deformed character... Well actually no, no you didn't you overly suspicious bastards. Anyway for those of you not familiar with medicine, Cleft lip: Ptosis: |

@mdude: yeah they're big about puns around here lol Well she's still not to the level of deformed as some monstrosities you've thrown our way. I had to imagine the accent to actually be able to read that shit though lol. My only problem with accents is that implies there are varying languages on the island but ultimately we all understand the women who are speaking to us, probably due to some magic that allows us to easily communicate with the natives, because I highly doubt they developed the same exact languages that we've experienced on earth. Would this magic ignore accents? Idk, we may NEVER know lol. I'm not complaining about it in connection to your story, just a general query lol, I have a girl in my story with an accent as well so yeah... I half expected either a beating or a raping, didn't expect the potential chopping block :P |

I just figure the magic only works to a certain degree like an online translator, it can easily translate a sentence spoken clearly and without much jargon/slang but if that person has a heavy accent it struggles... At least that's just the justification I use, honestly I just couldn't imagine Sykes without a Scottish accent, the character just wouldn't be the same. |

Chapter 2: The Medici's Chapter 2, Part 1: The thing you have to understand about this world is that godlike only means like a god. Even the lords weren't some omnipotent force that could know absolutely everything. This is why the Medici's could operate. People will often ask "how could such a thing be allowed to exist." It was never allowed to exist, because it might as well never existed in the first place. The door was quickly opened to reveal two entirely new guards, both of them struck with a look of confusion when they saw inside the cell. "Wah? What's going on here?" The one asked no one in particular. "Wasn't there only supposed to be one prisoner in here?" The other one asked the first. The first pulled a rolled up piece of paper out of her belt, inspecting it carefully before replying. "Apparently, the letter says send the PRISONER from cell five." "Maybe the Lieutenant miswrote?" "The Lieutenant Alexandria sending a miswritten letter? That woman has her letters proofread by practically everyone in the central house before sending it." "Than which one are we supposed to send?" The first guard looked at the both of us, thinking carefully before finally replying. "Let's just send them both, they can return the one they don't want. Not our fault the Lieutenant wanted to be vague." And just like that me and my new foul mouthed friend were being dragged out of our cells and through the tunnels, though the opposite of the way I had come. How convenient that I was being dragged in the opposite direction of Deneva. Sure she wouldn't get me out of the cell but she would probably be able to clear up that I wasn't the one who was supposed to be going anywhere... Maybe if I tried reasoning with them. "Wait, hold up, I'm a... Special prisoner of Laurens, I'm not supposed to be sent anywhere." Being honest didn't work before, maybe lying would be more beneficial this time around. "Special prisoner of Laurens?" One of the guards yelled in disbelief, "Lauren's not due back from patrol for weeks and she sure as hell didn't drop off a prisoner last time she was here. You think you're smart, huh? Dropping a popular name and expecting no one to actually know what that person is doing?" "No, it's true, just ask Deneva!" "Shut up and walk!" Well shit, I guess news of her coming back early was still just limited to the woman who got me in this whole mess. There was nothing I could do now as we'd reached a staircase leading directly up to a door. This door opening up to a back alley with a waiting caged wagon and about four guards. Two driving the wagon, one on horse back, and one with a horses back. "Alright, get in you two." Not really having any other options I climbed up into the back of the wagon, Sykes following me while spitting out a constant stream of mostly unrecognizable insults. But in we both went regardless and the barred door was closed, the guards who led us here going to the wagon driver to discuss a few short thing before handing over the letter and the keys they used to lock the wagon. Once they had disappeared the wagon driver snapped the reins of the two horses driving and we were off. Where we were off to I couldn't quite tell though, all I knew is we were going down the East district (albeit in an empty alley I assumed to be reserved for matters of laws and the such as the street was far to wide to just be the area between houses). Fantastic, less than a day here and they were already sending me back the way I'd came, it's because I'm a slav isn't it? Well, nothing can be done about it now but sit down and take a good look at the guards so I knew what we were dealing with. Another lizard girl like Devena sat by the driver, who oddly enough was not only a human but a human male. Guess guard are off limits when it comes to things you can rape. On either side of the wagon was a woman whose waist melted into the neck of a horse (no, I don't get the biology) and another person riding a horse who could have easily been mistaken as a regular human woman if it weren't for one minor detail, she was holding her severed head in her free arm. It's the little things really. Catherine on the other hand seemed less interested in weighing the situation and more interested in letting our captors know just how she felt about the situation in a calm and polite manner. "...Ye honkin cunts! Bet ye get paid part time down by the brothels tae take it up yer arse ye shite stained boots! an' ye bawbag, bet ye dinnae even have a knob under them breeks!" Unfortunately it seemed her complaints weren't being addressed. I was scared of this woman of course, I mean who in their right mind wouldn't be? She's a thief and a murderer, proud of it too, and evidently important enough for some high ranking official to take interest in. Not the kind of person you'd want to associate with. But as it stood we were both prisoners and as a result she was closer to being on my side than any of the guards were. I stood up, heading to the back of the wagon. Along the way subtle using my knuckle to tap Catherine on the back before going all the way and leaning my arms along the bars, staring at the road moving away behind us. Shortly after Catherine herself joined me, leaning in pretty close while staring ahead to see why I'd gotten her attention. "Where do you think they're taking us?" I whispered, the sound of the horse hooves hopefully enough to mask my words. "Hwat's it matter? Probably gonna chop our nappers aff... Or string us up if choppin's gone oot af style." She suggested. "I doubt it, we're going west. They're taking us out of the city." "Dinnae ken in that case, an' dinnae give a shite... Unless yer goin' somehwere with this..." "Those bags the horses and that centaur..." I paused for a moment and observed Catherine to see if my guess regarding the horse woman's species was right, it seemed it was. "...Are full on traveling bags, enough for one long trip. We're going far, far enough that we'll inevitable stop for the night at least a few times..." "Aye, go on..." Now her interest seemed piqued. "Those roads are practically empty outside of the city, not a soul around for miles usually. See, what we'll do is... Ahhhh... We'll-" I was immediately interrupted by a constant clanging. The headless woman had her sword out and was banging it between the bars, telling us to split up. Having no real choice Catherine moved up to the front of the wagon to resume her string of insults towards the guards. I just stayed in the back, thinking of a way to get us out of this mess... *** "...So you are telling that not only did you imprison Michael with a dangerous criminal, whom was just brought here a couple days ago, but somehow both of them have gone missing?" Lauren asked with barely restrained anger. It wasn't common for Lauren to get angry, throughout most her life she'd been a well tempered woman. When she was angered however everyone hid, knowing full well that they'd truly done something they shouldn't have. Unfortunately for Deneva hiding was not an option, she had no choice but to stay in the presence of Lauren and answer any question asked of her. Even if she had ignored her duty and ran Lauren would be on her in an instant. "N-not missing. A few of our women came to me after they'd been taken away. T-they said they'd been sent a letter from Lieutenant Alexandria from central, demanding the transfer of the prisoner in cell five to the western prison." Her heart was skipping more beats than she could hope to count, the poor girl stood a chance of keeling over right there. Lauren was still scanning the cell, not even sparing a glance Deneva's way. "How long ago was this?" The lizard woman swallowed hard before answering, "T-two hours ago, I came to you about it the moment you finished your meeting. T-though they'd said they... Transferred the prisoners almost three hours before they came to speak to me." Nothing about this was adding up in Lauren's mind, why would Lieutenant Alexandria of all women demand such an early transfer of the infamous Sykes after they'd finally gotten their grip on her. And transferring her far west when there was a much closer prison to the north? Nothing about this made any sense at all. The specific road to be taken by prisoner wagons went northwest from Alnor, through the thinnest area of the woods and then more south than west of the mountains. Why that path specifically? "L-Lauren... I-I thought he was a criminal, you said you'd deal with him and I just assumed..." Deneva's apology was cut short. "I am not worried about him Deneva, once they see he was not a pending transfer they will have him sent back. What I am worried about is the transfer itself, especially considering it is Catherine Sykes... Do you have that letter from the Captain?" Lauren finally turned to look at Deneva direct, her face now more stern than angered. "N-no ma'am" "Find it, immediately." |

Chapter 2, Part 2: "Whit's the hold up! Hwy are we stoppin'? Oy! Ye listen the me ye cunts?" The lizard girl, evidently getting tired very tired of Catherine's constant jabs and insults, finally addressed the malformed criminal. "Unfortunately yes. We're stopping for the night, so lay down and go to sleep." "A kip?!" Catherine yelled in absolute disbelief, "How am ah supposed tae get a kip hwen ahm sober ya bawheeded shite?!" The lizard guard practically charge right up to the wagon and grabbed Catherine through the bars, a few millimeters away from pressing their faces together. "I don't care! Just shut up already! Do you hear me! I will not listen to this for the whole fucking trip! Shut up! Shut up! SHUT! UP!" Catherine just stood there for a few seconds before saying just one word in a surprisingly calm tone, "...Rude." I swear the lizard girl had just looked into the abyss and saw it staring back. Her face was plastered with shock as if her entire world had been shattered. Eventually Catherine backed up a bit, only to leave the guard in a statue like state of still standing there with her hands gripping someone who was no longer there. One of the other guards actually had to come up to pull her away and lead her back to the campsite, placed only a few meters away from the wagon. Well enough entertainment, we had a job to do. "Alright, any idea's?" I asked Catherine, hoping she came up with something since I had absolutely no decent plans. "Aye! awrite, this is whit we're goin' tae dae. See, ye'll take aff yer skirt an' ah'll get their attention. They'll take ye oot af here an' start rapin' ye. Hwen they dae that ye'll grab the key aff wan af them an' hide it in yer arse! Then we wait for them tae get a kip an' sneak oot af here nice an' easy." "Sounds like a good plan... Wait! What was that about raping and asses?" But before I got my answer she'd already grabbed hold of my kilt and tossed it off before I could react. I was going to complain, but then she cupped my balls while pointing to them. "Oy! Knob here! We're givin' away a free knob! Get it hwile it's hot!" Unfortunately they didn't seem too impressed by this show, hell I don't think they even noticed it. There was an issue... They already had a 'knob.' It was like watching a bunch of animals gang up on a tuna can. Their grins wide as they practically pulled the sweating and nervous looking man out of his armour. Finally when he wore nothing they tossed him on the ground, the lizard girl apparently having first dibs as the centaur just seemed content to massage his shoulders. I'd also like to state this is the first time I've ever seen a man kiss a severed head where the head actually kissed back... I-I mean the first time I've ever seen a man kiss a severed head in general... Yeah, that's totally what I meant... Catherine however just seemed more annoyed than awestruck, "fuck me! That explains hwy they were draggin' around that bawbag." I was thankful to be free from her scaled, clawed hand but the fact remained that the plan failed before it even started. "Got any other great ideas?" I asked with heavy sarcasm. She didn't answer, just lay down in the middle of the wagon. "Hey... Hello... Catherine, do you-" I tried talking to her but was quickly cut off. "Sykes" "What?" "Nae wan calls me 'Catherine,' the name means naethin' laddie. Just call me Sykes." There was something odd about the way she worded it, it wasn't 'doesn't roll off the tongue' or 'I don't really like it.' What on Earth did she mean when she said the name means nothing? I wanted to ask her but something certainly felt off. None of her usually anger or insults, or some grandiose explanation of just how bad of a bitch she was, just a very subdued matter of fact statement. I decided it best not to push the issue, remembering that despite the fact we were allies in some way she was still a high profile killer. Well, no use worrying about it now, where ever they were taking us I doubt we'd get there before tomorrow night, and I could use the sleep. *** "L-Lauren?" Deneva timidly entered the barracks, calling over to the slumped over form of the almost naked beast. Lauren, sitting upon one of the beds and deep in thought over the events of the past few hours, hardly noticed the girl until she got a bit closer and called once more. The wolf quick turned around, causing the still somewhat shaken girl to freeze up. "Ah, Deneva... Come here." The lizard reluctantly moved forward, noticing the pause Lauren had made before asking her to approach in a cold, or at least what sounded cold to the poor girl, tone. She was quite surprised when Lauren grabbed her once close enough and forced her to sit down beside her and began slowly stroking her back. The girl began to slowly calm down as Lauren began to speak in a calm and soothing voice. "Deneva, I am sorry I snapped at you earlier, but you do know I would never bring harm to anyone out of anger correct? I promise you there is no reason for you to be afraid of me." The reptilian smiled and nodded before answering, "I know Lauren, but you're still scary when your angry." "The disadvantages of growing up big and strong" she giggled, her face going a little more serious after. "Now, did you manage to obtain that letter?" Deneva quickly straightened out and reached into her satchel, quickly pulling out a rolled up paper. "Yes ma'am! I manage to obtain a bit of information as well. Apparently the letter was indeed received from one of our standard couriers, however looking at the recent paperwork says she left for her travel rounds only a couple days ago. There's no possible way she could have given it to them." Lauren opened the note, carefully observing every aspect of it's contents from the wording to the very appearance of every single letter. From Alexandria Peterskya Lieutenant of the Alnor Central Guard division I am requesting an immediate transfer of the prisoner currently held in holding cell number five of the Eastern District Guard House to Vladimirskiy Central Prison, West Alnor. This request is a matter of the utmost importance and is to be carried out immediately. Questions may be sent to my office in the Central guard house, however only after the transfer has been initiated. Signed Alexandria Peterskya The more and more Lauren stared at the paper the more suspicious she became, because it was perfect. Every aspect of it was certainly Alexandria's work, the wax seal, even the signature, a complicated mess of a thing that seemed impossible to perfectly replicate, was indistinguishable from any other signature Alexandria had ever written. But still, the order itself was so odd, the fact that it did not reach Sergeant Amelia before anyone else in the Eastern District Guardhouse adding to the odd nature of the seemingly genuine letter. That was until Lauren took a deep long sniff of the paper, filling her lungs with the scent. Just as she had suspected, Alexandria had never come in contact with this sheet in her entire life, and she was not a woman who allowed others to write her letters for her. A forgery, admittedly the single most well made Lauren had ever encountered, yet still nothing but a forgery. This meant only one thing, the guards in charge of the transfer, and Michael, were potential in extreme danger. "Deneva, go supply yourself for a trip and then meet me outside immediately. I may require some, or quite a bit of, assistance with this..." |

greatgreenman said: dun dun duuuuun bit of spelling and other normal mistakes, nothing big. Bit of an ego crush though for poor Michael lol. Somehow, I still find sex with a Centaur to be the strangest of all, idk why.. Maybe because you're literally just fucking a horse? |

Dude... like kiss severed head? You either use the strangest wording intentionally or it is a miracle that anything survived in your reaver version of island. Or I picture everything ugly because it is you writing it. |
Signature removed. It was too good for this cruel world. |

@Beast: well how would you describe kissing a dullahan? @Em: Yeah but that could go the same for several other MGs: Lamias, you're just f*ckin a big snake, ANY undead you're just f*cking a corpse, sandworm you're f*cking a tongue lol and when it gets to the arachnids.. *shiver* Especially towards those who described using the spinnerets @.@ (though I guess that's technically anal?). To me its just the mechanics are strange, though I guess it does also appear to be too close to the real animal in that area. Unless someone described the bits as being very human like despite the horse body. |

Well if you were kissing a dullahan without a severed head it wouldn't quite be a dullahan now would it? |

@GG - No, I mean...their human parts start at the waist so they're pretty much all horse back there. It probably wouldn't be all that bad, really, but you know. I've seen lots of lamia and arachne pictures that suggest they're mostly human where it counts. I still described the arachne as wrongness down there for reasons. @Beast - I imagined ash-grey hair in a pixie cut, a strong but feminine jawline, and prominent cheek bones. Then I imagined a no-handed make-out session. |
