What do you mean by opening and endings? if your talking about the intro sequence for an anime then not really, sometimes the intro's are really tacky and lame so i just skip them, but sometimes they are pretty good i always liked the Bleach opening and ending sequences

Prioritizing only the song (not the visual of an opening)
Example:

Air Tv Op - Tori no Uta

I never watched Air, but only hearing the Opening Song, I know this anime is enjoyable

The same occurs with Clannad (But Clannad I watched)

Clannad After Story - Toki wo Kizamu Uta

I hope that has cleared up my question.

In that case no openings and endings do not effect my decision to watch an anime, because sometimes the openings are misleading and tend to not really properly portray the true plot/story of the anime, though it might sometimes fit the feeling of the anime.

Well, the intros and credits are always a bonus if they're really good or interesting (like the Reborn! ones :D) but they don't really affect whether i watch it or not.

For the most part, no. Sometimes if there's an anime I already wanted to watch but it isn't on my PTW list, the OP will make me add it, but I prefer to value my decisions based more on the summary and recommendations from people I know.

Do you mean do we watch it in Japanese with no subtitles, with subtitles, or dubbed?

If that's what you're asking, I usually watch the anime subbed. Since I can't understand Japanese, and I don't want to wait for the dub (most aren't that good anyway), this is preferred for me. Most subtitled versions are out not long after the raws anyway.

I prefer to watch original with subtitle. Dubbed sometimes are good, but most of time they aren't and has censorship (more than original). And original without subtitle, I can't understand very well japanese

I watch the dubbed. I can't understand Japanese, and subtitles aren't my kind of thing. Sometimes I just want to watch anime and do something else at the same time (multi-task), but if it's subbed I'd have to read it the whole time.

But I do know and agree that the dubs usually suck, but I get used to it anyways. ^^

Everyone watch with subtitles still.

For several years, I was watching something with no sub to participate in anime encoding club(very small club), wanted to check whether it has changed now.

thanks all.

That's kinda interesting, because I often watch the subs also because it makes it hard for me to multitask. As much as I would love to multitask through say, Sailor Moon, I feel like I would miss most of what's happening and all I would get from the episode is ...evil monster...tuxedo mask saves her...monster dies, and I would be lift thinking "what just happened in that episode?"

Anyway, I just found that post interesting since it was quite different from my usual reasoning. I'm also curious, do you only watch things that are dubbed then, or do you just prefer the dub if the anime has one?

I usually watch dubbed anime, but I still do watch subbed anime. If the anime is dubbed, I'll watch the dubbed. But if it isn't dubbed, subs are no problem.

But sometimes, not always, but sometimes, you can understand the character more with dubbed because you're actually understanding what they're saying. Well, that's what I think.

It's just me. ^^

With me is the opposite, sometimes the dub makes more childish, but I think it's because I watched much anime in Japanese and not dubbed.

I first started with dubbed anime but got impatient waiting for dubbed episodes to come out, so i started watching the subbed versions and now i just prefer the subbed because the dubbed version loose all the honorific's like 'san, kun, neesan' and so on, it just looses a bit of character.

I'm kinda glad the dubs lose the honorifics. Say what you'd like about whether subbed anime should have it in the subs, but I definitely think the dubs shouldn't have it. Dubs are usually targeted to a less obsessed audience and aired on toonami or similar, and those watching probably wouldn't know know what they meant. They would just be thinking, "why is this dude saying sempai after the other guy's name?" Also, if the show is in english, I feel things that are not part of the english language shouldn't be included. You don't see dubs using particles and trying to differentiate between pronouns, so why should they honorifics?

Just my opinion but removing honorifics sometimes mess with the context. And dub is not for the less obsessed audience, is for kids (most of time).

True, on some occasions the context can sound slightly strange with no honorifics (probably stuff like 'call me ___-chan' or something), I feel like, when dubbing, the focus is to make it more accessible to the american audience. It seems silly to me that something meant for an american audience, in english, would still try to add in japanese phrases. If the anime just added in a japanese phrase wherever there was no exact way to translate something, the show would be half in japanese anyway.Besides that, there are always ways to keep a similar context while not changing too much of the original. (perhaps just something like 'you don't have to be so formal.)

In response to the second part of your post:
Whether the dubbed anime is meant for kids or adults doesn't really make a difference. Sure, it seems that more shounen/shoujo shows are dubbed than seinen/josei, it still stands that those watching aren't usually as obsessed as those who seek out and watch subbed shows.

Also, i'm certainly not trying to run around setting fires or anything, so please don't think that is/was my intention.

New Question

How can we get this club more lively and more active members?

I'm not the best at this kind of thing, but below are a few ideas:

Club events that promote activity or encourage users to post on the forums (intelligently) with a club banner in their signature

An anime spotlight where we talk about an anime (not sure what type, and this could be a discussion or an article of sorts) once a week/month/whatever period of time we would want to make them for. We could invite people to debate on the anime and it's merits, talk about the initial reaction to this anime, give some recommendations similar to it, and of what kinds of genre people who enjoyed it might like, and add some way to keep it from becoming a wall of text (we could add some graphics or something maybe.

Another thing I just came up with, does anyone here know how to make things in a game creating program (I know nothing of this, forgive me if I get something wrong)? If so, perhaps we could make some interactive games and things related to the club.

Something I see in some clubs is an image to use in our description to make it more appealing. Something with links to threads, the club banners, our description, and anything else important we could think of.

I think an Anime Spotlight is a really good anime.

I have no idea about any game making program. :( But if I have time I'll look into it.

Yes, making a club layout is a good idea. But sadly I'm inexperienced with that. I kinda know the basics, but I can't to it well. Sorry.

I think a good idea is to keep the club comments more active. By doing so, more people may join. Because all recently active clubs can be found on the front page of MAL.

Yeah, continuing to post in our comments just as casual conversation and such is a good way to let people know our club is active and not just one of many dead clubs. Also, I would probably be able to make a club layout if I knew what to put in it.

Yeah. I'll also try to help out and make the club comments more active. And, if you know how to make a club layout, I guess you should go for it. I guess you can put stuff that's already written on the front, but in different words. If you understand what I mean.
I was also thinking on creating club cards for the club, but than it would be irrelevant to the club since this isn't a cards club.

Sure, I'll try making one when I get an idea of how the layout should look, and if Halitous says it's ok.

Club cards could be a good idea, but it might end up taking the main focus away from helping newbies and instead people would just be joining for a club member card, so we would have to be careful of when we gave them out. Doing something like that as a contest prize might work.

Yeah. You should PM Halitous to ask whether you can make a layout. If you need any help on it, just let me know. I'll try my best to help you. Yeah. I think we should start making contests. And then, the prizes would be a card. Yeah, but what kind of contests would be good?

I'll wait a little bit before PMing her since she'll probably see this discussion on her own, but i'll be sure to obtain her permission before making something.

In terms of contests, one thing we could do when we have more threads and posts and such is hide an image somewhere in our club and challenge people to find it. We could also have some kind of art related contest. A third idea is that each quality post you make in the club's forum gives you a ticket for a raffle in which we give away _. Perhaps we could even have a caption contest where we find various images from anime and people have to come up with a funny caption for it.

One other thing I want to point out is that the only active discussions we're having right now are on how to get more members into the club and active. We won't get anyone if we're not discussing anything that new members care about. The question of the day thing Halitous did for a little while seemed like a good thing. Perhaps we could create an anime you're currently watching thread. Perhaps just make some random chat threads so we can talk about things. I'm not entirely sure, but less focus only on getting members, and more on just enjoying the club.

With that, I will leave with one last piece of advice. Don't try too hard. It's always great to talk about improving the club and being more active and such, but sometimes instead of endlessly trying to get new members and trying to expand beyond what we have to power to make fun and interesting it's better to just relax and enjoy the club. We may not be very large right now, but if we enjoy the club and converse about our interests and have a good time, people will see that and they'll see that we enjoy the club and they'll want to enjoy the club with us.

For the contests, I like the ideas you have. I'll keep on thinking about more ideas for the club.

Yes! Enjoying the club is the most important. I agree with you on that one. I'll try to stay active and have a good time.

Sowwy that I don't have many ideas. All I do is agree with all of your ideas.

There's nothing wrong with not being able to come up with anything. I've had a couple of failed clubs/forums/roleplays/whateverelseyoucanthinkof before and have been part of some pretty successful ones in the past so i've picked up some ideas on how to run things. Most of the contest ideas came from the forums i've been on actually.

Some anime I know of that are similar are Guilty Crown and Fullmetal Panic. Is there any specific element in Code Geass you want something similar to, or are you thinking more about the experience as a whole?

there are loads of great ideas but now we have to get them going so lets set up the different threads to get them of the ground. i was thinking that we should pick an anime or manga and we all read/watch it and discuss.

That seems like a good idea. I'm hesitant to start anything official without Halitous's approval, but perhaps we could make a topic asking who would be interested in doing something like that and ask for suggestions on what anime we should start with if we do actually do.

Well i'm up for it, lets find some other club members who would like to join us, until Halitous decides whether its a go or not.

I just created an interest thread and will PM Halitous shortly. Is there anything you think I should change or add to the introduction of the thread?

I thought it was written pretty well. I can't think of any else to add right now, but I'll let you know when I do. I hope that many members are interested in the idea.

Alright. I also posted a comment pointing members to the thread as new posts in threads don't show up on the my clubs screen as far as I know.

Yeah. Okay that's good. Not much people have been replying or are up for it. I guess the club is kind of inactive. But, we've gotta fix it!
