Man, the depsair this episode...seeing Keiichi in that state is rough. Mion could only do to comfort him in a time like this.

However, I think it's interesting to see how the events affected Keiichi on a personal level at this point. Even Mion herself has trouble containing herself. This is the type of psychologial episode I wanted to see from this season.

I love you Kei-chan.

No Op, I feel like this episode is full of drama. I was saddened by the scene of Keiichi and Mion. I thought Mion would protect Keiichi but with what result, it's like Mion killed everyone.

Locking Keiichi up so Keiichi doesn't die isn't a bad idea but ....

June Keiichi came out of the hospital as a result of hitting the door. Ooishi-san's conversation with Keiichi make me confussed.

Next Arc Tataridamashi?

This episode felt so rushed. I don't know, the BGM was kind of lacking as well. I will rewatch to confirm this first impression, but it didn't sound dramatic or haunting enough.

No OP and ED for this episode, huh?

It's a bit more drama and mysterious than the ending of Onidamashi-hen. Not that I'm complaining though, because I enjoyed it.
This raises more questions about the Yamainu and wtf is Satoko doing there with Mion?

Next arc will be Tataridamashi-hen.

That Mion mental breakdown at the beginning wow, so many scary faces in this anime

It's definitely the beginning of the most interesting events, especially with what happened at the end.

woah! it's almost like she did do that!

well, this path is one that I haven't seen before, definitely an interesting one. Wonder if it will restart in another world next episode or just continue with this world. You know the episode is serious when there is no OP or ED. Keiichi nearly died trying to bust that door down, somehow strong enough to break the prison cell.

More disappearances, to no one's surprise at the climax of another arc.

Keiichi still acting as dumb as ever (even though in a different timeline), and that might be his strength when it comes down to the horror action of only knowing who's the true assassin at the point of killing.

The ladder scene though, that is easily the best part of the episode.

Mion showing her true colours whilst Rika is missing...(but Oyashiro-sama's curse or not, leave it to assumptions). Even if Keiichi chooses to believe in her plantiff of mere "trust" of words, right down towards the path of death, this Watadamashi arc felt lackluster as compared to Onidamashi, but on the plus side it etches the mystery going forward.

UMM...not sure of locking Keiichi away from the curse as opposed to just killing him straight-on and Mion handling things on her own POV. For the love of Keiichi and protecting her loved one in this strange village, that's a sacrifice greatly warranted.

Even down to Detective Ooishi clarifying events of the timeskip to Keiichi, that's a whole other element altogether. To be taken aback by such horror and piecing the puzzle together, it's a picture-perfect puzzle solved too late.

I'm sorry but the lighting this episode kinda takes akin to last week's, and greatly hampers the horror enjoyment with many liberties.

I'd feel that this climax is Ryukishi07's standard of trolling us with the mystery formula, and having the questions in us now to answer in the later arcs. Interesting.

Well. This sure didn't go the way I expected.

I'm stumped on which twin was which and how much they had to do with what happened. I'm pretty confident in that Mion was the one who locked Keiichi up. Everything she said to him at the house lines up with what kind of person she is. At the school, though... that might have been Shion.

My theory is that Watanagashi-hen happened for the most part, with Shion's roaring rampage of revenge mostly intact. The difference here being that Mion survived, and she might have killed Shion in self defense? Maybe? And then she called Keiichi over and met up with him. Satoko was probably there for the same reasons as in Watanagashi-hen, only here she was most likely killed by the Yamainu alongside Mion. Takano and Tomitake, though............ man, I'm really stumped! I'm really interested in knowing the answers to this arc.

I gotta give a shout to the ladder scene. It was goofy as hell in 2006 and it still kind of is here, just in a different way. It looked like Shmion was just violently vibrating the ladder instead of shaking it lol

Keiichi went through a lot of things and he can't comprehend what actually happened which I can't blame him for. Even I, as a viewer, didn't get half of the things that happened in this episode. Tataridamashi-hen is starting with the next episode, looking forward to it.

But that doesn't explain anything. Rika was last seen with the "construction uniform" guys and they also showed up at the Sonozaki's for some reason. Admittedly that was Mion saying that, but how would she even know about those guys if they weren't actually there.

T&T seem goners for sure.

Bruh! Who is who, and "why is she like that" is something that the series has kept hidden till now. I have to give it to the writers that they thought of everything very nicely.

We got the standard explain the status segment as there is more to the sonozaki family than just being the standard drug lord.

There was even further dwelling into the evolution of the roles and how did they counter-reacted to the whole situation, but there is something to be said about the role of the sonozaki here because it seems like they were the ones that continued the ritual here not the fucking intervention, Then who killed Tomitake?

Why did Rika believe that "SHION" should live is something that the further arcs may explain, but this arc kind of explains why did Rena was trying to kill Keiichi in the previous arc.

okay. We're being misdirected here and I don't like it.

The focus old fans have is on what is different - and then this random skewing to the familiar - and we shouldn't. Again its a misdirection.

I don't think its anyone from Umeneko, I think we are missing key information from the story that never got an anime adaptation.

We've seen the "gods" of Hinamizawa. I think we're beginning to see the interference of the "demons" of Onigafuchi. Why else would this be ruining Hannyu's happy ending for her "daughter?"

I don't even know if I trust Hannyu in this, something massively wrong is going on.

Damn what an awesome episode. No OP and ED allowed us to spend the entire 24 minutes on the drama and this episode was full of it.

I’m glad Mion finally told Keichi that she loved him, but man this episode was tense. I’m still pretty confused on what happened to Rika, but I assume Mion went on a rampage of sorts and cleared out anyone who could be a threat to Keichi. Need that type of love.

I think that for now, we can be sure that Mion was the one with Keichi. Bc The reports from Oishi are always correct (as we can see in the OG )
So what we can see is that Mion/K1 were spied for sure (we see a car when they met at the mill ). But the real question is : Did Mion was affected from the syndrome or not ? And if she has really killed Rika.?
Besides that, it was a really interesting episode !
Edit : I just saw the neck of Mion but it can be a trap from Ryukishi07

No Op for an episode is always suggestive and good to see that this was no exception.

Quite the eventful episode, this. But no answers yet. If this will be following Deen's version, then we should be getting the answers in the 4th arc but let's see...

Some really spooky moments here and there but Mion ticked off in the ladder scene easily takes the throne. Looking forward to more of such insanity!

From the start I assumed it was Shion discussed as Mion. But the "i love you Kei-chan" threw me off. Unless if Shion wanted to make Keichi remember Mion or just listen to her and stay there.

Her line when she looked at the monitor is also weird.Who is "their minion"?. If it was Shion in the monitor room then the obvious answer is Mion, the "next head=minion".This could also work if they didnt
. But one of them was already dead, as we find out at the end, so that's not it. The Yamainu are the minion maybe?

The gun next to the bodies of Satoko and Mion(lets go with the name we were given) isnt the same one Mion left with. And obvious scratches on Mion's neck.

Maybe it is a bit far fetched since nobody except Rika should know, but the minion was Satoko since she is "works" with the Yamainu?

Surprised K1 survived.

Back to the twins and their switcheroos, I dont see how Mion
could have a motive like that now and not in all other kakera. What was the trigger? If it was Shion
I can see how unlike her sister she would do that since it isnt just Satoshi's fate that made her lose it in the OG.
Speaking of Satoshi, the story again avoided mentioning him with just saying "Satoko's family".

So for now I go with Shion
killed the others and decided to fix the village. Satoshi's fate is irrelevant in her scheme.
I am not sure about the heart of it all tho. Is her personality+HS enough for that?

That doesnt answer why she killed Satoko after talking about what happened to them and doesnt explain the obviously different gun. We also dont know how long it took for the police to come to the mansion. For all we know Shion, Mion and Satoko were killed by a third part, Shion was then dumped into the well in an effort to frame her twin.

Not having dead body confirmations in red sure is a bitch.

sigh...and as if that isnt enough everyone's favorite uncle comes next.....

Oh, so even Satoko is part of the three great families huh... Of course Keiichi had to be related to such important girls xD.

That confession was nice and so far, Mion seems the most reliable but I don't know if I can fully trust her. Like in the last timeline where it seems that Rena killed the other 2 girls, it seems that here Mion is the killer. But then again, although somewhat crazy, we never knew if Satoko and Rika's deaths were murder or suicide and in this case it is not crazy to rule out Satoko and Mion's suicide. And Satoko is involved again so... ?

You never know who to trust. They are so nice and friendly on the outside but in a moment they snap and you don't recognize them anymore. Mion's breakdown was scary but Satoko's behavior at the beginning was also quite interesting and scary in some way because of how out character it was.

I would also like to know how these timelines work. It seems that everything restarts for Rika once she dies but everything continues for the others in that timeline as if it were a bad ending, especially for Keiichi.

I certainly don't want to believe that Mion was responsible for all the killings but it's definitely like her to try to take responsibility even for Shion. plus, Shion at the ladder seemed kinda crazy, the second half of the episode however, Mion, seemed rather sane.

yep, I don't want to believe it either particularly because I really want to be able to keep trusting Mion but...

I'm curious where was Rena in all of this though

Anyway, really left me with a ton of questions this episode (ohoo my twitter rants sure will be fun) and curious for the answer arcs and also excited to read everyone's theories~

Hmm I guess at the beginning of the episode it was still Shion. At the ladder she said something about Rikka being the culprit, so maybe she thought Mion to be innocent and released her out of the underground prison. Then it came to a fight and Shion died.

I certainly don't want to believe that Mion was responsible for all the killings but it's definitely like her to try to take responsibility even for Shion. plus, Shion at the ladder seemed kinda crazy, the second half of the episode however, Mion, seemed rather sane.

This episode really caught up to me. Gou did it, for the first time. I didn't expect Mion catching the curse would be this heartbreaking.

This is Mion, after all, stubborn, headstrong until the end. Even struck with paranoia, she was centered in her objective, to keep K1 safe. When she noticed that the situation got out of control, she even managed to overcome Shion. Maybe we'll get an answer arc, but I'd prefer if we didn't, at least not in Meakashi fashion.

Talking about Rika, she was deceived again to think things would outcome the same, but her words instead led to disaster. If "the twin" really overheard her, that's what led to her death.

The curse shock caught up to Mion when she accidentally shot Satoko. Either that or both her and Satoko were killed. There were marks of neck scratching, but it wasn't tore open. The blood on the ground and her agony expression sure looked like a gunshot. So it was either murder or suicide. However, she was carrying a revolver, and the gun left in the scene was a pistol. Same thing happened with the different knife in Onidamashi.

Also, Rena is out of sight, but that's expected.

I have a theory for this arc.

I still think that Shion killed everyone here(except Rika)
Mentioning the doll does throw a wrench into this theory, so what it Shion swapped places even before we get to see her in the Maid Cafe. Basically, I'm proposing that the person who played at the toy store in the beginning is Shion.

Well, this was a really good episode for this arc.
Hopefully Tataridamashi will be good as well (I will throw hands at someone if they mess this up from the orginal VN)

But after this 8th episode, I'm wondering if I didn't had an episode of clairvoyance. :D

I had doubts with the first arc, but now I am looking forward to the 3rd one.

Okay okay, I will try to see the bigger picture here, and not the deal with Mion/Shion for now.

Is anyone else finding Satoko *extremely* suspicious?
The way she looks and talks to K1 in this episode, and then found dead next to 'Mion'.

Kimiyoshi disappeared on the night of Watanagashi festival, not the day after.
Satoko was coincidentally also missing at some point during Watanagashi.
Now I'm not saying she could do all of this alone, but the Yamainu is clearly doing something as well.
Not to mention when 'Mion' at the school said she saw Rika talking to construction workers, Satoko kept trying to put the focus on K1 only.

that aside, interesting episode. seems like Keiichi didn't die again this arc. I wonder which arc features his death? I might be remembering wrongly but I thought he died at least once in one of the 2 arcs in the old adaptation...
more questions to be answered in future arcs for sure. I thought Kei-chan's paranoia will trigger when he went to such a big house with seemingly nobody else in there other than Mion. Next arc would probably be Satoko's arc (?) since she's the only one left leaving Rika to be the last one to wrap up this season.

Pretty interesting theory.

Indeed Satoko has displayed the capability to kill at least another kid before. The problem is that we are talking about Rika.

Before assuming that she is the culprit, Satoko being serious and antagonistic if something happens to Rika makes sense.

With that out of the way, a combination of L5
and overhearing Rika's mumblings could result to that. Rika IS one of the 3 Head Families, literally the entire 1/3 of them, the miko etc etc. So add some grudge for the fates of her "family"(yes I avoid Satoshi just like the show does) and you have a motive.

I am not so sure about Satoko
Mion tho. The only reason Mion or Shion would fell for that is if the little girl they were facing was actually 100+ years old. Satoko without her traps is kinda weak too.

What a tragic episode.

Mion seems to have killed a lot of people in a crazed state to protect Keiichi from being lynched and or eaten by the village because he went into the shrine.

Too bad it was these circumstances that caused her to confess, but it's pretty much been the best arc ending for Keiichi so far.

I'm excited to see what the next arc has in store for us. Hopefully some answers!

Well that was a thrilling episode, goddamn this was a solid one. No OP's and ED's this time, so this is going to be a maxed one. And damn they did...

Rika is gone, Satoko looks to Keiichi as sus and people are worried of her and the village chief's disapperance. That ladder scene was intense but a bit exaggerated. But we finally saw the true wrath that Mion can emit, and damn she is strong. When Mion calls Keiichi to come to her home, I can already see red flags all over.

And first impressions on Mion's house: not bad, pretty decent. I was worried that Mion is going to do Keiichi but she actually sides with him. As they venture deep into the Sonozaki's underground, things get more creepy and dark and oh what do you know, Mion actually puts Keiichi-kun in a prison. That moment, I can confidently say that Mion is a fucking yandere, holy christ. Too bad Mion left him there and did Keiichi just broke out of the bars, but he can't stand a chance to a thick metal door.

Somehow he survived and got rescued by Oishi. Later we discovered that Mion is indeed dead because (death flag), but the reveal...shocked me bitterly. Not only did Rika died in the bathroom Keiichi was looking for, Shion, Satoko along with many more are DEAD. Fortunately for Keiichi, he didn't get killed by either Mion or by starvation. This feels bad for Keiichi, he didn't die this arc but for sure his mental did. I guess new arc next week, maybe catched up with the 2006 episodes.

But guys, WHERE THE FVCK WAS RENA IN THIS EPISODE??? He didn't got mentioned by Oishi nor appeared in the very end. Maybe she's behind the group? Who knows she is missing for some reason. Well that's a bummer. First time I posted in an episode forum in a while now, this sure was a long one to a thrilling episode.

The ladder scene in the OG looked way worse, so I'll take this version.

I don't think you aren't at this part in the OG anime yet, so without spoiling much I'll just say that I think Rena indirectly helped Keiichi getting out of the cell.

I'm watching the 2006 version of this episode at this very very moment, and ngl the ladder scene this episode is better. And yeah Rena is less involved in this version. I can believe in your dip that Rena might opened that door and let Keiichi out. And with Mion ofc noticing her, she has to deal with her aye. But that still leaves me with questions on where she's at in the very end of this episode, she was never mentioned. I'll see how she fare in the OG version, but I'm just curious on Rena's whereabouts in this situation.

I never said that she opens the door. But if the people outside of the mansion are indeed the police, then Rena did help Keiichi in some way(not going to say how). I'm as clueless as you are when it comes to Rena's location, but I think she is safe somewhere (though probably mentally broken since everyone died).

HOLY SHIT THIS EPISODE-

So it seems Mion was trying to protect Keiichi, but I’m pretty sure she just went crazy over “protecting” Keiichi by killing everyone.

They really executed this arc really well. I’m at a loss at words and can’t really express my thoughts, but I thought this was honestly a great conclusion to this arc. I also loved how Mion confessed as well.

Yeah, the guns are different, which means it's a setup. Likely the same had happened in Onidamashi with Rika and Satoko. The question here is why was Satoko at the Sonozaki residence, tho this would go into my theory next. Spoiler warning for those that hadn't read the VN or watched the OG anime.

I'll probably need to think more about this, but for now this is what I got.
