A tense match from Taichi's side. Everyone had their eyes on him and his opponent and imo, it was pretty intense.

The gameplay pushed him again to try his best at trying to secure every card while also remembering Arata in his mind. Chihaya is still on her little trip although she still has important thoughts on her mind too. A pretty insightful episode if you ask me considering what Taichi is going through right now.

Hosoya-san's character acting weird after what meijin said. Queen notices it.

Main girl wondering about the competition too much to care about the trip, which her friend trying to get her attention back to trip by getting to exhibition mian girl is interested.

Yukata girl is into the exhibition more.

Mamo's character's opponent is stronger. Defense Karuta... Losing at Unmeisen again. Miyu-Miyu's character stopped the girl from going to him at the frustration. It seems like he's frustrated not because he lost, but because he didn't catch Chihaya card.

It seems like the karuta teacher's opponent is the one just beat Mamo's character. lol @ giving opponent pressure as always. He always can always know which card would never read?! So he won Unmeisen.

Karuta teacher's opponent next is that guy who always shut his eyes off.

Hosoya-san's character vs. his senpai.

Miyano Mamoru always does everything so well when Taichi is suffering. God, it hurts. He make it hurts like it should hurt. And... And it hurts. It hurts! This match really pains me, mostly the Chiha and the Me takes. Me was the 99th card read... And Taichi lost Chiha because he sent it and it was read when he was still playing defensively... Ugh...

It was nice seeing Kana-chan explaining things again. I love Koi and Shino (and know about this tournament where they were together), but it was amazing nevertheless.

ALSO, and the most important thing: Harada-sensei. I love the dialogue between he and Taichi where he tells him that when you practice a lot, you can tell what cards aren't gonna be read. And the end of the match, mostly... "The cards that need to be read won't ever be read". I take this for life. OH, OH, AND ALSO. It's important to note two things: Harada-sensei's last card was Taichi's favorite card, "Tachi". AND! The card that wasn't read, "Konu" was the one that he sent to his opponent a bit earlier during his monologue about the cards being read. It's so, so good!

And the last thing I'll say: Arata's sigh wasn't of disappointment, it was a sigh of relief...

Aww I wanted to see Taichi vs. Arata. I feel u Arata, I'd be disappointed too.

Still, we have 3 great matches coming up, I'm particularly excited for Inokuma vs. Sakurazawa. Hope we get to see some of that, though I suspect it's going to be mostly Arata vs. Murao next episode.

Good episodes fly so fast.
Got to learn more things about japanese traditional culture regarding poets, explained again in a beautiful manner by kana. I can understand Chihaya is worried about Arata and taichis matches but she should actually be focusing and enjoying the trip, she came for friend, and glad she's enjoying it now.

And taichi again man bad luck hits his face again, he was doing so well but he made little errors and luck just ran out at the end. Feel bad for him and its infuriating as he really gave it all. but i hope he is inspired by seeing the true fighter Harada sensei.

Speaking of which the MVP of this episode, and one of the best characters of the series Harada sensei. Man he is like a legend and definition of never give up. He knows himself so well, even though while he is struggling physically and mentally he just keeps striding on with that fierce look on his face which terrifies his opponent.Old or young no matter who his opponent, his game is always top notch. Respect, he is truly a role model. Also happy a little he took revenge for taichi xD

And on the West turf, Suo is again being all mysterious and ticking off shinobu at the same time. Shinobu is adorable and funny with her hunger sounds xD But again we see her "being friends" with players problem, since it always turns bad when she crushes someone she gets distanced. feels bad for her. :(

Glad Arata is still in the tournament. now in the finals. He is literally Fired up after that Suo taunt and is even attacking fiercely unlike his normal self.
And that sigh of disappointment when he saw taichis name wasn't there in the finals, he really wanted to play against him. That was something everyone was looking forward to sadly. :/
Now he is against his senpai murao and if i recall Arata hardly wins against him. This going to be a interesting matchup while Harada sensei fights Our sadistic Sudo. :3
Cant wait for next week.

So many good things Chihaya making up with Michiru as Kana explains it all
Fun to see the Blunderer again He wins despite messing up Poor Taichi The lesson from Harada on which cards will never be read in luck of the draw was instrutive
The conversation between Suo and Shinobu about why they play was enlightening Glad she slapped Ise in the face he deserves it for what he did to her he was one who told her never to have friends

this is why this show is an insanely good show because you just don't know what will happen, everything is set up for Mashima to at least get past that guy who is from a conventional anime perspective is just a stepping stone for the main cast especially when its set up to be arata west vs mashima east then boop mashima loses.

the match ups are insanely good omg(inokuma match is so hype) can't wait for the next episode.

the visuals for this anime really doesn't go down. the taichi walk after losing is insanely beautiful.

i lowkey thought Shinobu's gonna crush or throw away that snowmaru bread out of the fit of anger, but it seems she really loves snowmaru.

It hurts. Seeing Taichi lose really hurts :(. First season I didn't really like Taichi that much, but I think he's my favourite character right now. He reminds me of wanting to have/do something so desperately bad, but because of that not doing it because of the fear that all your effort will be in vain when eventually it doesn't work out how you wanted it to work out. Then feeling extra hurt because of all the effort. Taichi still goes and does it and I really admire that about him. I so, so, so hope he's not going to give up now (he probably won't but I would have in his case)...

Harada is amazing though and he shows Taichi that hard work can pay off (even though he has not won yet...). I'm certainly rooting for that old fellow. Such a cool guy too :). Heck, every single character in this series is just amazing!

Great episode.

Taichiii!! Nooo! I was rooting for him. :(
He gave his very best and at the end, he couldn't get the card cause 'luck of the draw'. I really felt his frustration after. :(

I loved how the episode then presented Harada's version of the 'luck of the draw' and how he mentions that eventually you can develop an instinct for knowing which card is not going to be read. That was awesome, and he really hung in there for the win.

Arata winning as expected, next episode should be good too.

The opening is starting to grow on me now lol.

Aw man, another luck-of-the-draw match again for Taichi. Makes me sad to see him lose when he's tiring his best :'(

And looks like Dr. Harada will be playing against Sudou next episode, which should be very interesting.

But I think I'm more interested in Arata playing against Murao, considering how close in skill they are to each other.

Really good episode, can't wait for next week's!

Happy Taichi lost. I would not want to see him make it all the way to the Meijin match at this point. Plus the circumstances by which he went to this tournament just make me want him to lose harder.

Shinobu is definitely a bit of a loner, but I want to know more about why. Too good to have friends? Please. Not everyone will be a sore loser like our friend Taichi over here. She was pretty upset from that guy mentioning the old lady and having no friends.

Isn't the manga ending in a couple of chapters? It's around 220 at the moment, and the anime is currently at the 110s...

Oh I haven't read any of the manga, so I have no idea. I'm sure that match-up is coming eventually., but we've had a couple missed opportunities already this season.

First of all! N O N O N O N O N O N O !

@Kipo0007, @Dolabella. You guys all got it wrong! That sigh wasn't of disappointment but of relief. Arata's expereince with Karuta made him acknowledge the strides Taichi made when he wasn't looking at him! Arata was shocked at himself that he sighed there! How could you guys interpret it as disappointment!

Don't say mean things about Taichi! He was really looking forward to play Arata! Why cannot you see it in a positive way that he was playing to face Arata! The guy whom he deemed as someone he would never be able to beat even if he played Karuta for the rest of his life - he was looking forward to play that Arata!

Coming back to the rest of the episode:

Can I gosh over how happy it makes me to see Arata so much in this season?! Where is the Arata that Chihaya considered as someone divine?! We don't have that Arata anymore. He now worries and panics. He now gets agitated. He allows himself to be provoked. Even Shinobu-chan, who has known Arata for the longest time, saw an Arata who was not his usual self. All because of Taichi and Suou-meijin!

Also, doesn't Suou-meijin look badass with his shades on! I was looking forward to the conversation between Suou-meijin and Shinobu-chan and I am so happy that Madhouse delivered! Suou-meijin is in a league of his own! Hang on tight minna when you finally get to see him unleash his Karuta this season!

Also, Chihaya, how could you do this to Michiru-chan?! Making her cry like that?! These moments may seem a bit over the top seeing Michuru-chan and Chihaya hug like that but they would make sense if you guys read the middle school arc. I cannot thank Michiru-chan enough who was Chihaya's only support in those painful middle school days! I am happy that Chihaya was able to enjoy the school trip with her BFF. <3

Also, Hanano-chan! How can I not like her! She almost made Taichi make a comeback! It's sad that he pushed Koishikawa all the way! The Koishikawa who would be, in another manga, a shounen protag! And while he was utterly broken believing that Arata would represent the West and he just had to represent the East to set up a face off, it was Hanano-chan again with her encouragement! That text might go a long way in the story as Taichi got to witness the Shiranami no Kuma make Koishikawa fall!

Also, I am a bit saddened that Rion<3 had to face Inokuma-san! So, it looks like it will be Inokuma-san vs. Yumin in the next round! I am sure Nikuman would be really happy if he was present!

Also, Kitano-sensei, you super tsundere character! Coming at Harada-sensei's aide like that! I know you didn't do it intentionally you mad sensei!

Also, Harada-sensei! Aaa~h. This guy seriously needs to stop being so cool! I wish we could see him when he was younger! I might have fallen for him! His inspirational talk with Taichi was so overwhelming and hit right on the mark!

Also, in the west we have Harada-sensei versus Dou-S-no-Sudo-san! One more push for both!

Also, Nagumo society is on fire! In an all Nagumo society final! Arata will play against the incredible Murao-san who only lost to Suou-meijin the previous year!

Episode 10 couldn't come soon enough!

I can appreciate that aspect of it. It would be an exciting match. Also I love your positivity. You're clearly a huge fan of the series. Regardless, I have never really liked Taichi as a character, so I guess you could say a little sadism comes out and wants to see him lose. Still it's not like me disliking a main character takes anything away from my experience. I suppose he's well written enough that I can appreciate this motivations even if I dislike him.

@shanimebib Yup, I like in how Arata reacted his emotions in why he sighed in the first place, he's someone who refects of his inner thoughts and why he's reacting to them the way he did: his final match against hsi mentor will begin in the next episode: Oh boy their match will be intense and an emotional reaction coming from two people from the same society: I can hardly wait.
Well, we all wanted to see our each favorite boys facing each other in the match , but we can all see Suetsugu-Sensei is saving Arata vs Taichi match for later.

It's painful to see Taichi lose like that. Mamo chan's voice acting was so on point....when he was walking alone with all those inner thoughts....wow so heartbreaking.

Sumire just doesn't have any chance with me. They way she irritatingly turned around to Tsukuba, is showing her"real"self again. She still has a long way to go. It's Tsukuba who was most considerate at that moment. Good going boy, holding her back!

Boy, but Harada san! So nice to see him shine! The old bear deserves every moment! Like Taichi, I almost had tears welling up.

Next back to the West. Shinobu and Suou moments.....ah Suou is such an intriguing character! And Shinobu is rooting for Arata secretly? Ise Sensei, you hoe, how can you try to pair Shinobu up now with someone after isolating her as a child?? I definitely am not a fan of the old karuta geezer generation! Some exceptions though

Arata feeling relief that Taichi didn't make it. He's having some conflicted feelings, the jealousy probably lingering....so he's facing Murao....Taichi beat him in Yoshino....so...is this really going to be exciting?

Yea my bad i just checked the manga again, he did say it was a sigh of relief. Anime should have put a little more context to it, because it was a little vague and confusing to be honest as usually arata doesn't react to anyone. Guess he is seeing taichi as a rival after all and acknowledging him. thats a good thing

Also Just goes to show that Arata is actually human and has his emotions and feelings which affect him. His character development is just beginning and other people are seeing it in him. its gonna be amazing . Suo just lit a fire in his heart. But Love suos voice so soothing and calm

Glorious episode, like the usual!

Mad respect to Harada-sensei yet again! So glad the crowd got on his back too and seeing his students picking up the cards instead was really sweet to watch. Versus Sudo-kun next, hopefully he’s got just about enough fight in him to pull through but I’ve a feeling he’ll come short. Can’t wait to see it nevertheless!

Condolences to Taichi, that text just made it even more excruciating to watch as a Taichi-fan (kuso-ga!). Momentum was on his way so a surprise obviously but that’s Sports so no helping it. Amazing how he got the lead down to a bloody card, well played lad! Mamoru Miyano’s little moment there during Taichi’s monologue was just fabulous, god bless him!

Harada-sensei proving that luck-of-draws don’t necessarily depend on luck entirely was wonderfully handled. MadHouse, take a bow!

Got to feel for Sumire-chan too. Good thing Tsukaba stopped her there though, coming to terms with losses like that are definitely not easy.

Chihaya finally giving Michiru-chan the attention she deserves was a touching moment! Really glad that happened as well, I was starting to get a little infuriated with her. Lol, Kana-chan meanwhile is on another planet as always.

Can Not Wait for the Next Episode (as always)!

This episode's pacing felt a little slower than the previous ones. But still, a great episode.

My boi Taichi deserved better. Well, at least Arata and Harada are still in the game. I hope they win their respective matches.

I kinda am rooting for Harada the most at the moment because the dude practiced for 45 years for god's sake! He deserves to challenge Suo (and possibly win)!

Chihaya was being annoying with her constant staring at her idle phone. I'm glad Chihaya's friend slapped some sense into her and made her realise her mistake. She needs to enjoy the trip and kick Taichi's ass after going back to Tokyo.

It really is just expected that Taichi will lose isn't it? :( Tough loss, especially with his reaction after - running through all the cards he lost ... man. Good on Michiru for finally snapping at Chihaya, who wasn't paying attention at her trip at all, even though it was her choice to go. Still, her realization of why Taichi was playing was a step in the right direction. Super impressed by Harada - love his character and just goes to show how hard he's been working. Very glad that Taichi came back to watch him, and his take on "luck of the draw". Seeing some more characters get introduced: Kosaku (the "Blunderer" guy) and that girl that the president pointed out to Shinobu. Looks like we have our semi finals decided ... I know who wins them, but still gonna be exciting to see them in action XD Poor girls on the western front didn't get a mention at all though lol :P

The next bunch of episodes are gonna be amazing! Can't wait to see it all gloriously animated!!

Too bad for Mashima. He has neither Harada's pure madness expression nor his 45 years of experience.

I hope that the old man will pull through, bad knee(s) or not.

Taichi lost, but Harada won! Impressive. I hope he will be able to defeat Sudo and fight against Suo, but I doubt he can beat the current Master.

It was so cool to see Harada's students helping him with cards, but man... why didn't they think of some cooling medical tools if Harada's knees ache so much after kneeling in one position characteristic for playing karuta. Oh well, I hope his knees won't be the reason of his defeat if he loses against Sudo.

There was some tension in this episode, but to me it wasn't something big. However I'm hyped to see the next one. Damn, those semi-final duels are gonna be impressive! And let's not forget about the final battle in the East - Arata vs. Murao. :D

Shinobu was funny with her stomach gurgling from hunger. ;p

I enjoyed Kosaku's games with Taichi and Harada. He reminds me of my old self when I would blunder stuff while knowing the correct choice yet I would still do very well overall anyway. I found him cute with his facial expressions while those cheering for him being familiar with his blundering aspect.
Shinobu snapped there.

Suo's words have ignited Arata's competitive spirit, but he is also haunted by what the Master meant with his words.

On the other hand, Chihaya is still depressed by the decision Taichi made and she is also worried if Taichi and Arata are winning or have already lost, but this ends up bothering Michiru who did her best to plan a trip that she and Chihaya would enjoy , this makes Chihaya reconsider his attitude and forget about the tournament. Kana is so cute, I loved hearing her talk about the history of that old tournament, so much passion and wisdom in her words.

Taichi faces a very skilled opponent, the difference between the two was great, but he gains confidence when he remembers what Sumire did for him.
Taichi began to play defensively and this worked very well, the practices with Harada sensei gave good results, but after a tough competition Taichi finally lost his match, which was sad and frustrating, I would have liked a match between him and Arata

Harada sensei is extremely exhausted due to his wild way of playing and his age, to make matters worse his opponent is the same boy who beat Taichi, but even so the sensei did not give up and gave all his effort until they both finished with a single card, the tension and expectation felt in the air and at the decisive moment, Harada sensei was lucky to have the decisive card next to him, which ended up giving him the victory, but now Harada's next opponent will be scumbag Sudo.

For his part, Arata will have to face Murao in the match that will decide if he goes to the finals, I am looking forward to seeing the match of these two players because it will be intense and very exciting.

Age is really catching up with Harada. Poor guy. But you gotta respect the man for still giving it his all. RIP Taichi. Nothing ever goes his way it seems. The loss itself wasn't bad, but it was who he lost to. Can't be helped I guess.

Oh shit it's Murao vs Arata. This will be interesting.

Wtf,are we just supposed to accept that Taichi lost against some random who we never fucking heard of and apparently is a good player ? Taichi probably wouldn't have won the tournament, but they could atleast let him lose against Sudo or the Coach, not this fucking nobody who got his ass whooped by harada Sensei and who we probably aren't going to see again.

Not too mention that the match turned in to another luck based one at the last card. Why do they keep doing this at every crucial match of Taichi ? What's the point of the coach bringing his luck up again ? He already told Taichi this last season and now tells him that he won because of sheer experience? How is that going to help Taichi in anyway ?

Kind of a dickmove of shinobu's grandma and the guy who runs the tournaments to tell that she should get more friends when they were the one who isolated her because they wanted to nurture her latent skills. She has every right to slap her grandma and that old nosy prick.

Sudo will probably lose against Harada and Arata will probably lose against Murao. It's a bit too early for them to challenge the master.

Another amazing episode. How do you not feel for Taichi . With that being said he is learning what he truly wants step by step.
