Some sick entertainment added to the contest........ Didn't really feel as tense to me as average Kaiji episode, but solid none the less. It was neat seeing the planning put in to cover up his cheating... but I can't help but have that gut feeling Kaiji's gonna get screwed over somehow.

If he's supposed to open the box from the side to reach the fake winning lot, that will probably seem a lot less natural if one of his hands are strapped to a device like that. This leaves me wondering whether he will have his hand attached during the entire game or just when the eventual finger chopping occurs.

Worst episode of the show so far. Not bad, just nothing really happened. I get the feeling they could have put this in the previous episode. 2 full episodes of set up is a little much. Oh well. Next one will be awesome ^^

100 million yen, huh? That's only about 500k in euros, iirc. It's a nice amount, but I remember the wagers in Akagi were much higher. Too bad the chairman's not betting all of his fortune like Washizu did.

At this point, I'm just hoping for a season II confirmation. The episode wasn't bad, but it's kinda obvious where this is going.

Kaiji is cheating like Funai now...

Wasnt a great episode. It was good to see Kaiji acting but for me it was way too real except the part where he starts remaking the winning lot, wich was really fake imho. Chairman is way smarter than he seems and finger chop... Hummm that was the only great part about this epi.

PBz0r the conditions Akagi was betting were diferent from Kaiji. Akagi was playing in the underworld of mafia and Mahjong while Kaiji is playing to pay a "lets call it minor" debt.

Second setup episode in a row = fail.
I agree with mulderman, they could've comprised these past two eps into one.

Other than that, I agree with these two posts.

While I agree with mulderman that they should have squeezed more into episodes 23 and 24 to make it a 25 episode series, ep 24 wasn't really a second setup episode at all in my opinion - to me, the gambling has already begun! I mean, the setup of the gamble is half the gamble.

Sure if you were looking forward to 4 episodes of the chairman and Kaiji mindlessly pulling out lots without any strategy one after another until one of them pulls the lucky lot at the end of episode 26, I can see how you would be gritting your teeth, thinking WHY THE FUCK DON'T THEY START PULLING OUT LOTS ALREADY!?

If 4 episodes of maddeningly insane lot pulling out action doesn't appeal, if you rather prefer the subtle intricasies of the gamble, like me, then you wouldn't mind the plot progression so much...

I pretty much agree. The episode wasn't THAT bad guys. Good themes, and as bigjig said, half the gamble was how Kaiji set it up.

ep was ok you knew from the start how he was going to set it up.The only shockers/revalations was the throwing of the circle lots on the floor, betting terms and the finger chopping... Hell I can't beleive I said that casually wtf but it got me exited about the next ep. So what does that say about me :-)

I liked this better then the last episode!

A fair amount of setup here :D

A lot of luck too. Hopefully the chairman doesn't decide to feel around for a while when selecting lots

\200 000 000 is $2 000 000 here, and that seems like a lot to me...

I have to agree that this was a boring episode. I can't help but get the feeling that Kaiji's gamble isn't enough. Maybe 100 million yen would put the chairman at a serious financial disadvantage but by the way he talks, it looks like that amount of money seems like peanuts to him. If the chairman can just brush off a loss like this then the whole gamble is nothing but a minor speedbump. It would be better if the stakes are raised so that either side would be in complete ruin depending on the outcome. Otherwise the chairman would continue his torturous gambles in the future.

...even a saint needs a soldier to do the dirty work.

Yeah, this does make me think back to how Funai scammed Kaiji and those others on the Espoir. That aside, it was an excellent con that Kaiji ran through this episode. These last two episodes have been similar to both the best and worst aspects of the Gentei Janken arc. On one hand, we have really boring and long-winded exposition. On the other hand, the psychology behind Kaiji's scheme is really well-done. I do get the feeling that the chairman may somehow be able to pick the winner.

I don't know how you can't be satisfied by this episode. The atmosphere was so tense and thick that you could cut it with a knife, it was about as thick as a finger, lol.

Kaiji executing his plan without suspicion is pretty much the entire gamble. The lot pulling will just be a formality if everything goes right for Kaiji. The gamble has already started so this was hardly a set-up episode.

Easily a 5 out of 5

I had to appreciate Kaiji's set up even if it was just a tissue-box gamble. 100 Mill in cash?! that peanut-nose-ojisan has money coming out of the #$%.

It's true that money really distorts your thinking. If I had that money in my face i'd probably be drooling

I'm a little disapointed at Kaiji, I thought that the final gamble would be more developed, but it looks boring (except the finger part)

its about 10 million in dollars, or 7 million in euros... hell, im surprised kaiji isnt trying to just sell his fingers for that much--alotta people in his situation would jump at the chance

anyway, I thought the episode was decent, or at least better than people are giving it credit for. sure, 2 episodes is kind of a long time to set up something so simple and somewhat silly, but as that no-name extra said during the episode, the set-up is the real gamble while the drawing is just a formality. granted, the suspense wasnt as high as usual since kaiji could have bs'ed his way out of the gamble if the set-up didnt go as planned, but it was still interesting to see how he managed to bend the whole situation to ensure his advantage.

now the real suspense comes next week when we get to see if old peanut-nose has any tricks up his sleeves as well. After he got the ok to draw first, he sure seemed pretty confident with his wager.

It looks like kaiji's ear might be having company in that bag of ice sometime soon...

edit: nvm the 7 mil, it looks like your 500k estimate was about right, I was adding an extra 0

I'm siding with Bigjig on this one. Slow, yes, but its the intricacies of the gamble.

That said, I'm actually counting on the possibility that the Chairman in fact does pull the winning lot. Would make for an interesting 11th hour twist.

Yeah, I'm sure the chairman knows that there is a possibility that Kaiji rigged it and he could easily check the other side of the box to see if there is a lot stuck there. Kaiji's fingers don't seem so safe anymore.

I found the episode to be pretty interesting, well as far as tissue-box lotteries go. Kaiji really thought it through. I thought that his gamble was a little half-baked, but he proved me wrong.

We'll see whether he gets to keep his fingers or not.

Where does he get those wonderful toys?

Also, I agree with previous posts. This whole lottery thing is not keeping me in suspsense the way, say, the card-game against Tonegawa did.

Eh..I don't see how this anime is going to end well if this lottery thing is the final challenge (for the lack of a better word). It seems too retarded to me. Also I'm not too happy with Kaiji deciding to cheat his way out. I sense that he's going to lose something soon.

Ok the execution of setting up the gamble and game were awesome. So even tho the game is kind of lame the rest was on point as usual. But winning on his first try is very suspicious even tho its not impossible I wouldnt trust it. I know its risky but if I was Kaiji I would wait until the tenth round before pulling it. And I wonder how he plans on "celebrating"? The dumping of the tissue box isnt a bad idea and could be seen as a natural reaction of winning $100 million but something feels off about it.

from the condition of the chairman going first, it seems he already knows Kaiji is trying to cheat.

Kaiji shouldve told the chairman he doesnt want 100million, instead he wants the chairman to wager his own fingers too.

Well something will have to go awry for this gamble to become exciting... If Kaiji just wins on his first turn by pulling his trick, it would be such an underwhelming way to end the season :/
But as I said, it probably won't turn out as planned.

That's a stupid bet, Kaiji... You have everything to lose, and him, he'll practically nothing. For a mafia leader like him, 100 millions must be close to nothing. He'll not hurt him one bit.

What's up with all these masochistic wagers the director's team put on, lol wtf.

This whole "I wanna avenge my ear and friends by defeating the director with some cheap and tricky moves" is pretty dumb. Don't know how Kaiji will manage to get through the director's three conditions but, he'll sure be lucky as fuck if his cheating plan were to work out. I dont know I'm just too skeptic on this.

You know, I actually loved this episode. I thought Kaiji's idea was kinda stupid for various reasons, but he executed it really flawlessly. I'm pretty sure something goes wrong, though, since a) we still have two episodes to go, b) it would go against the laws of nature for Kaiji to succeed too much.

Its odd for this show to do a finale one move. Wondering if this will extend to episode 26, because it looks easy enough to finishes in the first 10 minutes of the next episode.
