THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
This episode had some comedy gold moments. The reaction of a young Himeno towards cows was priceless.

Glad to see a lot of Nozomi this episode. What a fun character to watch and I love her character chemistry with most of the cast. Entertaining episode. Nozomi's delusions of the UFO gave me a good laugh.

Honestly that part about their insecurity was funny only to find out that guy was after her breasts.
The studying part also had some nice developments tho Nozomi had a hard time with it.
And now they have an interesting transfer student.

No shock Hime would get a love letter considering her big, beautiful tits! XD That scene of the girls examining each other's...privates though. Never seen that in all my years watching anime. XD Whoever told me back in the first episode that this show isn't yuri was a damn liar! XD I mean I know technically they aren't lesbians but close enough! XD

Weird episode. Unfortunately same thing as in episode 2 especially when it all feels disjointed which is one of the worst things to happen.

The topics were either just completely weird (first half) or boring second half besides the alien part which i did find mildly interesting.

First half felt like an "innocent young maidens" bit from B Gata H Kei/Joshikousei. Nicely done.

At first I thought they were talking about horse udders. Here's a link for you to NOT click on!
https://www.google.com/search?q=horse+udders&tbm=isch

I guess centaurs don't have them. Well, that means extra stress on the human nipples, since the babies still need to eat like a horse.

Last month I saw a goat with an udder swollen like an inflated medical glove. Somebody milk that goat.

And I'd just been asking "snake girl when?"

wo-hoo, after some time of searching, finally found someplace i could watch it, never heard of the site before tho but eh- whatever that works _xD

-since it didn't happen in the first episode, i didn't think they'd adapt the super-typical girl-thing to do in the anime too, but there it was, but seriously, nothing yuri-about it. girls do that all the time when they're growing up to make sure they're not the weird one out, i'd say probably close friends though,
but doesn't that first half of this episode make the anime that much more slice-of-life when they incorporate something like that? (well, the manga too, duh)

-so happy that Quetzalcoatl has showed up now though, but it keeps me wondering how much of the manga will end up in the anime, since it's only twelve episode,
mhhh... if only it was 26 episodes....

but yeah; i can see where people say it's a slow pace,
but it's SoL, just look at Gingitsune or Shirokuma Cafe

-well, that's my anime-watching for a while, back to She-Ra

So Himeno was afraid to go out with the guy because of what someone said to her when she was younger. Nozomi had a hard time studying. An interesting transfer student came to their school. There was a lot of security.

I was so happy when they did NOT animate chapter 0 (which is what stopped me from reading the manga) and I thought at this point it would be skipped over completely..... but nope, they just had to have THAT conversation. Seriously... is this what guys think girls sit around talking about?

Well, at least it's only one conversation that slightly annoyed me... only slightly. I've been enjoying the show so far and I'll just hope that no more super awkward conversations are in the future.

Interesting "ryu gaku se" in part 2.

Part 1 almost ventured into "hentai" (or ecchi at the very least).

I was on the verge of dropping this show, until I saw the "neko chan" story last week. I think I'll stick around to see what happens with Quetzalcoatl(don't call me Lucoa)chan next time. I suspect she'll become the 4th member of Himeno-chan's clique.

Yes, MonMusu canon is that all large-bodied monster species have large breasts for that reason. That also includes lamia (Miia) and arachne (Rachnera). But my point is that in real life, nursing with human breasts leads to sore nipples, even with smaller human babies. :D

And in our world, large breasts seem to have no utility in production of extra milk:

https://www.babycenter.com/404_is-it-true-that-moms-with-small-breasts-produce-less-milk_10310185.bc
"No. When it comes to breastfeeding, bigger isn't better. Breast size is irrelevant."
"Your breasts should get larger as they fill with milk – even during pregnancy as your mammary glands prepare for the job ahead. But the amount of milk you produce is usually determined by how much your baby nurses. The more the baby feeds, the more milk your breasts make."

http://milkgenomics.org/article/do-larger-breasts-make-more-milk/
"Research into breast size and milk production shows that milk supply is not dependent on breast size, but rather on the amount of epithelial tissue contained in a breast that is capable of making milk." Neifert, M.R., J.M. Seacat, and W.E. Jobe, Lactation failure due to insufficient glandular development of the breast. Pediatrics, 1985. 76(5): p. 823-8.

https://www.motherlove.com/blog/view/does-size-matter-how-breast-storage-capacity-can-affect-breastfeeding
"But when it comes to the way in which you feed your baby, something called 'breast storage capacity' might matter after all. That's because women have different 'breast storage capacities.'
Storage capacity is not related to breast size, but to the amount of milk-making tissue you have in your breasts. It means the amount of milk you're able to hold in your breasts when they are at their fullest. That amount can vary a lot from mom to mom."

https://www.breastfeedingbasics.com/articles/small-breasts-size-matter
"Over the past thirty-five years of working with nursing mothers whose breasts came in an amazing variety of shapes and sizes, I have discovered that having small breasts is not a disadvantage for the nursing mother. In fact, having large breasts can actually make nursing more challenging, because women with large breasts have to worry more about engorgement, positioning, latch on (newborns with tiny little mouths may find it challenging to take large nipples and areolas into their mouths, and support (the increased amount of tissue is heavier when filled with milk, and requires heavy duty bras as well as more support to position the breast optimally during feedings)."

It is!

The existence of MonMusu in this world is bizarre for various reasons:

- Kimihito (male MC) is a human
- MonMusu mermaids don't have those weird human thigh gaps
- Depiction of centaur being ridden
- Lamias might be seen as a racist ideal of "better" Antarcticans

A girl reading MonMusu for fun might be seen as... unlikely to be straight? But of course we already presume that about Nozomi.

Interesting... so Hime has a complex about herself too. Though to be fair to the boy, there's only so much about a girl you can fall in love with when you only get to see her on the train everyday. At least he was being honest about it, lol.

Loved the studying part, and how they segway'd into talking about Antarcticans and the mystery surrounding them. It was a pretty good way to introduce their new transfer student there.

Quetzalcoatl, eh? So can we call her Lucoa too? XD

Ever since I saw Hime on the cover art, I was thinking about jokes about a horse's ass. I didn't expect them to take it that far lol. It's actually pretty interesting to think about though. Being of a different race, you might be thinking about something like that. I actually thought that what Hime was afraid of was that she was a different race. But rather it was an issue she had in the past. I giggled when Hime read the letter. The facial expression + the sound effect made it humorous. And of all the things the angel had to comment on, it had to be her breasts...Why not the hair? Speaking of hair, Hime's hair in the second half was really cute.

The second half wasn't all that special. I guess it was to set up for Quetzacoatl's introduction. And seeing Hime's reaction to the snake, it looks like Quetzacoatl will be spicing this anime up from now on. How will the students behave now that there is an Antarctican as part of the class?

According to [Brokeback Mountain author] Proulx, since the release of the movie she has been inundated with alternative scripts, sequels, sexually explicit retellings and "fixes" that change the ending of the story so that the two star-crossed cowboys end up together. And unlike most fanfiction writers, who tend to keep their habits confined to niche message boards, Star Trek web rings and other shame ridden corners of the Internet, Brokeback Mountain fans apparently like sending their work directly to the author's address.

Surprisingly, Proulx says most of the fanfiction is written by people claiming to be straight males. So ladies, now you know what your boyfriend is doing on the laptop late at night when he claims to not be looking at porn.

I'm a straight male and I liked Brokeback Mountain, but I took a 100-question test once according to which I'm 13% gay, so....

well, there's liking, loving and accepting,
i like and love reading manga, i don't like lesbian or straight stuff, but i can accept a good couple no matter what their gender happen to be :/

-in terms of MonMusu, i would like to guess there's more to the manga than just the ecchi, pantyshots and boob-muffles that i'm just guessing are in the manga,
similarly there's a whole lot more to BL-manga than just men having sex with men, i wouldn't like any manga unless it also had a good story or interesting characters to go with the main theme, etc.
in essence, it's not the gender or species of the characters that makes an interesting concept or story. and maybe that's what interest the reader too.

-and your type of society sounds like very little thought is going into assuming things about other people based on a single event or hobby... (then again, don't we all live in that sad, sad society?)

my experience with females that are more regular than me, is that they do "super-weird-stuff" with each other pretty regularly, such as experiment with their sexuality, explore each other's bodies and talk about awkward things like sex, tampons, different brands of underwear and if they're having their period at the same time. -glancing at each other's genitals might be a societal thing, or it might be something "regular" girls do, that are close enough to trust each other to not make a big thing out of making sure they're all "normal" down there, or at least doesn't look nasty enough for no one to wanna venture there with their appendages :/

-either way, just because someone happens to be enjoying a lesbian porn manga about sockpuppets doesn't necessarily mean they are are into lesbian things, or sockpuppets, maybe the story was just good, or the characters were just interesting enough for them to wanna keep reading. so her reading Monster Musume probably means nothing more than "hey- easter egg", just as it wouldn't mean anything if a girl or boy in real life would do the same. maybe it's just something they read because they're into manga, and this specific manga was popular enough to make it into some top-10 list and thus they read it to find out what it is about?

pretty sure i'm totally overthinking this and all, but i prefer to have more information than just "they read X and that must mean they're Y" before forming an opinion about someone, whether they be fictional or real-.... one single item doesn't make a whole person's worth of information about them..

A college friend was legit scared I might be gay when he found out I love The Lake House, which is a straight romance movie. So yeah. ;P In retrospect, if all this monster girl anime had been out then and I'd been into it and people knew, then people might have wondered whether I was taking horseriding because... y'know.... :D

Yeah, that's really not a fair representation of what I said, which was:

First sentence, I'm talking about what others' assumptions might be. I'm not talking about my own assumptions, nor did I say that said assumptions are justified. I chose my words carefully because I was already well aware that the topic is a minefield.

Second sentence, nothing to do with the MonMusu easter egg, the anime seems to be pushing a canon ship of Hime x Nozomi. I haven't looked up whether that's actually what happens in the manga.

As for MonMusu, it's one of my favorite manga (out of ten I've ever read) and it absolutely does not have a story worth reading if you're not into weird monster girl shenanigans. The male MC is kind, thoughtful and hot, so there's that I guess. Someone not attracted to females would most likely be reading it for the comedy, but the comedy, well, it ain't Konosuba. The comfy family slice-of-life aspect is pretty nice too, when Suu isn't raping everyone (well, every female).

From my experience, no. They don't. However, guys like to *imagine* girls sit around and talk about this stuff. Otherwise, they (guys) got nothing to live for :D

Haha! Thing this brings to mind: a female coworker in her late 60's once commented, "Male and female private parts are about the ugliest things in the world." I was like, huuuuuuuuh?

Where can I take that test online? Lol

I just remembered, this is the closest thing to a Monster Boys version of MonMusu I've seen: https://myanimelist.net/anime/24211/Orenchi_no_Furo_Jijou It's not a 1:1 comparison. Come to think of it, I'd be totally down to watch a reverse harem of monster boys if they were actually designed like the MonMusu girls. A problem with that is in MonMusu the girls are always forcing themselves on the unwilling male MC, and that wouldn't fly with a female MC.

Howl in Howl's Moving Castle = brooding emo boy Papi

What I just wrote is not okay.

Jojo fusion?

That surprised me a little, but it makes sense since their world seems to have the same geography and nations as ours.

I've tried to find it again since then (I took it in 2003) and failed. :( Googling "sexual orientation test" turns up various tests, of which a few seem to have been validated by psychologists.

Well, it's not the fact that they talked about the Third Reich that surprised but more because they were talking about who are the Aliens XD

I laughed when I saw that. That shot passed quickly and I was like, "Wait, that was Monster Musume, wasn't it?" And yeah, you're totally right about it being bizarre in the context of Centaur no Nayami's world. The approaches of these two series to monster girls could not be more different (for obvious reasons, but still).
