| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- CANALUUU!! (best scene of the episode) Overall the first half of the series was quite funny, but then it started focusing on serious plot and lost its brillance. Good characters and interesting premises, but the execution lacked. Shame there wasn't at least one movie. EDIT: I learned since then some of the material was lost in a fire, which explains why most of the second half is rushed. These things used to happen but it's a damn shame. |

It's indeed true---not all shows can shine their best with a serious, dark, and heart-wrenching plot at times. This is a case study for the small exception, which lost its charm by giving it a brilliant plot. A contradiction it may seem, but the filler-like first half was better than that of the second half, yet you can't deny the fact that the ending was accomplished. |

| This was really not a good show, had to read the linear notes on the dvd to get the backstory. Millie and Kane are cousins, wait what?!?! 4/10 blah, just bad fan fiction for Slayers in my opinion. |

| Almost 30 years since it first aired.. I watched this because I heard that it's Slayers' alternative universe. Well, I agree that it has a lot of Slayers' elements. Millie even looked like Lina when she was wearing Kane's headband. I just found out that Yashigani term came out from this anime http://lost-universe.livejournal.com/8095.html |
| I liked this show better when it was funny. Ep 8 was quite memorable, and some of the other filler episodes were good (like the one Kane goes by "Francoise"...) I feel sure the English dub is actually an unrecognized joke dub for 99% of the show. Canal is a treasure, with most of her lines delivered at MAXIMUM AUTISM. The 'serious plot' unfolds rapidly and with minimal explanation, so that it becomes only a bunch of "stuff that happened" that makes almost no sense. Things like Kane and co. becoming fugitives for no discernible reason, or who the old guy running Nightmare is in unclear for 24 episodes, Millie and Kane being apparently from the same family is abruptly thrown out there in ep 25 and carries no weight on the plot anyway. It's decently executed and follows the typical Slayers trajectory of goofy filler+fight with evil gods, but it lacks the fun character dynamics of Slayers. |
| So, basically, this final gave you both good and bad ending. The writer basically left the last scene ambigious. The Kanzakaverse has two Cannon Multiverses; The Anime Canon and Novel Canon. If you take the last scene as a dream sequence, it leads to the events of Slayers TRY which is Anime Canon. If you take the last scene as reality, it does not have greater effect on the remaining Kanzakaverse so its Canon to Novel. |
| This show was okay, a solid 7 until the mid way point, then when it got more serious, it dropped to a 6. It's not that I didn't like the more serious turn, it's just that I don't think it was executed well. The final 3 episodes were enjoyable though, even if the ending was rushed. |
