| I think this is an interesting statistic that has been missing. The percentages are not concrete values, but just for easy interpretation. Just how much are you comfortable with OSS and dependent on windows/mac software? I am 90%+ on Linux. I feel awkward every time I am faced with a windows machine. The only reason i would switch over to my 10G windows partition is to occasionally play a game. There was only one time when I worked on windows for any long period of time. This was when I was making a Java applet that collects MAC addresses, but Java has a limitation on Linux where it only pics up MAC address of cards that have active connection. That was a bad experience. |
| Woah, me being the first of the 100% guys. But it's not exactly true. It's more like 100% - wine (for some occasional games). But real traces of windows are truly forbidden on my computers. Still it's definitely closer to 100% than to 99% XD |
| Eh, somewhere around 25-35%, I'd say; lately though I've just been logging in to get updates. Ironically, I generally boot into Linux so I can play games - Mahjongg (both Gnome Mahjongg and KMahjongg) and Shisen-Sho for the win. I do so much stuff with media that I find the Linux solutions unsatisfactory (particularly video editing - once Saya comes out though I might change my mind), and prefer to use a native solution rather than wrangling with wine to do it. Or for those cross-platform tools I already use, like x264 and mencoder, it's just massively easier on Windows due to AviSynth support. If only AviSynth 3.0 hadn't died/faded off into oblivion... (and if only I had any sort of programming experience I'd try my hand at *something* in that field, but sadly, I'm not in such a position). |

| Gee, are you kidding?!? :D Windows is not only disturbing in philosophy for me ---i'm also struct by it's useless graphical interface and hang-ups whenever i'm obliged to use it (at school, internet cafe, library, ...). 99.99% GNU/Linux, 0.01% Inferno, as a playground. Though I run Inferno under GNU/Linux and it's no real alternative whatsover ^_^' I rarely get hooked up to Heroes of Might & Magic III, so maybe I should add 0.1% wine as well. Other than that, not everything I use under GNU/Linux is Free Software: i am kinda bound to Mathematica :/ |

| Actually at odds with my previous post in January, I'm probably going to start using it more often for encoding because the speed gains per comparable version of x264 are pretty dramatic, especially on 64-bit (and I finally got the hang of compiling it with -march and MP4 output via GPAC). And while it doesn't replace AviSynth input, at least fps and resolution info can be retained if I pipe the video over from mplayer thru yuv4mpeg. |

| I use gentoo for almost everything, but i have a partition with windows xp64 for those few moments i feel like playing a non wine-friendly game. It's very rare for me to play a game though, probably less than 5% of the time i spend with the computer is gameplaying and at least half of that time is Diablo 2 which is very wine-friendly. |

| 100% I have no need for wine or win. I don't play computer games at all. I'm a console gamer. I have NES, SNES, N64, (EU)Gamecube, (Jap)Gamecube, (US)Gamecube, (EU)Wii, (Jap)Wii, PS, PS2, (EU)XBOX, (US)XBOX & some SEGAs. With more games than I'd like to count. I have 4 computers + laptop (though I'm only running 2 of them right now). Debian Squeeze/Sid on all + Ubuntu 10.04 on a usb stick. I haven't had Windows installed on a computer in almost 3 years. Even back then, I was only using Windows to make a friends Photos into Nero VCD slideshows for them. I've been exclusively using Linux for myself since Hardy Heron was in Alpha. |
| Voted 100% due to not having a Windows partition. Though my phone is iOS and I do have WINE installed. |
